The Saga of Ancient Hebrew Explorers Who Really Discovered America?

http://www.hope-of-israel.org/hebinusa.htm

A stone in a dry creek bed in New Mexico, discovered by early settlers in the region, is one of the most amazing archaeological discoveries in the Western Hemisphere. It contains engraved on its flank the entire Ten Commandments written in ancient Hebrew script!...

...In December, 1989, it was reported that an American explorer in Peru's highland jungles had found evidence that indicated king Solomon's legendary gold mines may have been in that region. The explorer, Gene Savoy, declared that he had found three stone tablets containing the first writing found from the ancient civilizations of the Andes. The inscriptions, he reported, are similar to Phoenician and Hebrew hieroglyphs!....

.... These same Yuchis later migrated to the Oklahoma territory, where they eventually settled down. Amazingly enough, they show strong evidence that they had contact with the Old World in historic times. They have a custom which is unique among the American Indians. They are racially and linguistically different from their neighbors. Every year on the fifteenth day of the sacred month of harvest, in the fall, they make a pilgrimmage. For eight days they live in "booths" with roofs open to the sky, covered with branches and leaves and foliage. During this festival, they dance around the sacred fire, and called upon the name of God....

...In 1966 Dr. Jules Piccus, professor of romance languages at the University of Massachusetts, bought an old scrapbook at a rummage sale containing a letter written by Netto in 1874, which contained his translations of the markings on the stone and a tracing of the original copy he had received from Costa's son. Intrigued, Dr. Piccus brought the material to the attention of Cyrus H. Gordon. Dr. Gordon, the head of the Department of Mediterranean Studies at Brandeis and an expert in ancient Semitic languages, as well as author of some 13 books, was amazed. He compared the Paraiba inscription with the latest work on Phoenician writings. He discovered that it contained nuances and quirks of Phoenician style that could not have been known to a 19th century forger. The writings had to be genuine! Gordon translated the inscription as follows: "We are Sidonian Canaanites from the city of the Mercantile King. We were cast up on this distant shore, a land of mountains. We sacrificed a youth to the celestial gods and goddesses in the nineteenth year of our mighty King Hiram and embarked from Ezion-geber into the Red Sea....

...There is evidence among the Maori and people of eastern Polynesia that the sun was deified as Tane and that Ra, the sun god, was the tutelary god of Borabora. The Maoris, also, made use of ancient solar observatories. "At Kerikeri, in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand, there is a miniature Stonehenge, the blocks standing about 7 feet out of the ground; and near Atiamuri, north of Taupo, there are other great monumental blocks -- some fifty of these still standing erect" (Maori Symbolism, p.137). Interestingly, ancient Maori traditions relate that since antiquity the Maoris have observed ceremonial and dietary laws very similar to those of the ancient Hebrews. They even kept the seventh day "Sabbath" as a day of rest! Also, every 7 times 7 years -- or 49 years -- they observed a Jubilee Year similar to that of the ancient Hebrews."...

...These two reputable scientists of the last century also point out, "The use of Hebrew words was not uncommon in the religious performances of the North American Indians, and Adair assures us that they called an accused or guilty person haksit canaha, 'a sinner of Canaan'; and to him who was inattentive to religious worship, they said, Tschi haksit canaha, 'You resemble a sinner of Canaan'" (ibid.)...

And I discovered "To Wit" just about an hour ago, so that helps.

The Red Bird Petroglyph of Kentucky; Evidence of Ancient Cultures in the Americas....

http://s8int.com/phile/page43.html

This is the famous Red Bird Petroglyph known since pioneer days and enrolled on the National Register of Historic Sites.

On December 7, 1994, this historic stone fell from a sandstone cliff and rolled onto Highway 66 on Lower Red Bird. On December 9, 1994, it was transported here and set up in its home.

At least 8 Old World alphabets are engraved on it. These alphabets were extinct when Columbus arrived in the New World in 1492.

The alphabets are first century Greek and Hebrew, Old Libyan, Old Arabic and Iberian-Punic which probably dates from the 9th century B.C. Ogam, Germanic Runes, and Tiffinag-Numidian are also on this stone....

First Century Christian monogram in Hebrew and Greek letters. It means "Jesus Christ Son of the Father."

I wouldn't be quite so hasty.

An interesting discussion of the marks on the rock can be found here. This man knows quite a lot about languages and ancient cultures.

Well, apparently he knows very little about ancient hebrew.

which would make sense since he appears to be not much more than a roamin blockhead witha tourist visa and a bit of time on his hands.

the only one claiming he knows quite a bit about languages is you... I also find that rather odd.

I don't even know whether to laugh or cry at the fact that he presents modern alphabet characters to compare ancient alphabets to. But i shouldn't really expect much more from a roamin blockhead i guess.

The fact that he is quite obviously utterly unknowledgable about ancient character sets belies both yours and his attempts to say the mongrams are fake or meaningless.

Why don't you get an education before trying to teach, Linda? It would help you a lot.

Character assassination is a pretty cheap ploy. I thought scientific credentials meant nothing to you anyway, so what does it matter if he is not a scientist? Have a look at his web pages and you will see that he's got expertise in a number of areas.

He's got pictures from the stones on his previous 2 pages and I can quite easily see what he is referring to.

Character assassination might apply if he had anything worthwhile to say about the issue and I was just slamming him for the joy of it... but since he uses modern character sets to try to decipher an ancient alphabet, I guess the joke's on you, and him. there's no need to read past that point sorry, the idiocy is clearly evident.

Good point though, character assassination, perfect. well said.

here's a picture of his house... oy veh.

I am pretty convinced by now that you will do just about anything, present just about any opinion you run across no matter how unworthy, in your attempts to derail the truth about Christianity, Linda.

unfortunately again, the joke's on you. Because the only thing you've achieved thus far is that you have made it clearer and clearer as time goes by that your education is, well, exactly what it is... you are not much more than a professional babysitter and might, might ad you, communicate well with 7 year olds and keep them entertained for 7 hours.

why you've never moved past that I really don't know but it shouldn't be everyone elses problem that they have to incessantly bicker with you about your opinions which you dish up left and right without any concern whatsoever for the facts.

I'm glad you like the guys website, I thought it stank.

When you have something that is truly interesting in this corner let me know. I'm not interested in propoganda for your cause. I am very interested in real history, no matter whose side it presents. What you present is not history, and it is far from accurate and is just another of your veiled attempts to slam christians and biblical history.

but it's your ignorance that continues to show through.

Do you have any idea of what this board would like of everyone flew in with any offhanded opinion that they scarfed up somewhere on the net to argue with everything you said?

It wouldn't be pretty. It would look pretty stupid.

So why don't you quit? think a little bit, do some research or something. if you can't find anything real or substantial to dislodge opinion about info you disagree with, maybe it's time to consider the idea that you might be wrong.

There's an interesting and concise page here about the name 'Jesus' for anyone who might be seriously interested:

http://www.geocities.com/dabar_olam/Origin-Jesus.htm

If you are old enough to remember the days when the catholic church still did it's liturgy in latin or if you had devout catholic grandparents, you should also distinctly recall hearing the latin name 'IESU' quite often.

Sorry but I don't see what you mean about using modern character sets to decipher an alphabet. What he says is quite clear. I'll post it here to eliminate any ambiguity in this discussion.

There is no reason, a priori, why a stone in Kentucky might not have writing in an Old World language, or maybe even two: the world is stranger than we know; although eight of them seems a bit much.

But when I decipher an inscription, the burden is on me to give my grounds for the decipherment: merely stating something to be a fact won't hack it, especially if it runs counter to traditional knowledge. For example: of this rather striking mark, or group of marks, our panel asserts it is a "[f]irst century Christian monogram in Hebrew and Greek letters; it means 'Jesus Christ Son of the Father' " — quite a lot to pack into that squiggle, especially when we consider that both Hebrew and Greek are alphabetic, not pictographic languages. The phrase in ancient Greek is pretty much as long as it is in English: [snip -- Greek characters] and nothing in our glyph, except the [snip]; that might be taken as the initial letter of [snip];, "Christ"; you might as well take it for a pair of crossed oars, parked here by those mariners of the Nile, so far from home. . . . The statement on the panel is just not true. Similarly, the purported Ogham "rebus" — didn't we just see a "monogram"? do we sense someone repeatedly hedging their bets? — looks nothing like Ogham (for what Ogham does look like, see this excellent page at TITUS).

Consider also how very rarely one meets with bilingual inscriptions; texts in three scripts, like that on the Rosetta Stone, are correspondingly rarer; and eight? In forty years of poking around looking at ancient inscriptions, I've never come across one nor heard of one. (Modern scholarly publications not infrequently show such a wide mix of languages or scripts, as for example in Karl Müller's magisterial edition of Ptolemy; but ancient inscriptions, whether on stone or parchment, no.)

So why do we have eight scripts proposed here? Very simply, because someone has gone fishing for them to support a preconceived notion. If this squiggle isn't Greek, well it's Ogham or "South Semitic" — this last term, by the way, covering several dozen languages modern and extinct, none of which has signs for vowels — or Punic or Runic. Worse than "not true", this is . . . boulderdash; and very likely with something of an agenda: see this page on Chief Red Bird and the petroglyphs.

You can insult me all you want, you do it to everyone whose ideas you disagree with, but all the wishful thinking in the world isn't going to make something so just because you want it to be.

un hmmm... what he says is quite clear. Very clear. Very wrong.

the inscription actually reads quite easiiy if you have ever looked at any paleo hebrew inscriptions of YHVH and are able to understand what a mongram is.

Do you know what a monogram is, Linda?

Yud + Alef + cross

Yah + the first the last + cross (you know what the cross would indicate in a mongram of that nature + presume)

<img src="http://herballure.com/ForumExtras/Images/heqivyiagm.jpg">

HVHY = YHVH

Maybe check some bathtowels for ideas of modern monograms.

really, I do not have time to educate you. Besides, I don't think you could afford the tuition or keep pace with the curriculum.

However, the picture on the sign does not resemble these letters. And the author was being truthful about the claim on the sign that there is any ancient Greek to be found -- there isn't.

I'm not trying to do anything here other than say that I think the evidence for the claims made about this particular stone seems rather tenuous.

Your personal comments are getting tiresome again. I challenge you to post something that doesn't insult the person you are talking to, when you are expressing disagreement with that person.

Can't... no matter what I post to you it insults you. Even on my nicest days.

Linda, you do not have a knack for understanding very many things. You are a very very difficult person to discuss things with as a result.

There is not much to work with Linda, I have tried relentlessly, among others. I'm sorry. I cannot help you.

If you do not understand something it becomes an endless argument wherein you accuse everyone of insulting you and everyone is always wrong. But what are we to do Linda? There it is right up above clear as day Yud Alef Cross and you still don't get it.

I don't see much greek in the inscription either btw, it looks purely hebrew to me. except the little c shape to the left of the alef inside the yud, I may have read somewhere in the past about that being a greek influence to that type of alef inscription somewhere in the past. you can look it up, it was used commonly (at about 100 ad or so like that if I remember correctly).

tired of arguing with you about Linda, it's your turn to think. think whatever you'd like it won't change much. there it is point made done.

A fun experiment for you would be to take a hammer and chisel and go carve your intials on a rock. see how far you get. i want to see perfect work from your perfect self too..

Just out of curiosity Linda... where exactly would you place your strengths in terms of a foundational education? Is it in the sciences, biology, geology... the arts, methods, art history... archeology, roman, greek, hebrew, ancient cultures... anthropology,... philosophy... ancient literature, modern literature.. psychology.. religion... medicine... law..

exactly what is your basis for accurately discerning, deciphiring and understanding things? Do you have formal training in any of these areas, are you well read or studied in any of them on your own? What?

perhaps you are relying on what you learned in your high school social studies classes a good part of the time? Do you believe that that is a comprehensive knowledge base? has your college education provided you with any more study in any special areas?

do you subscribe to or regularly read any periodicals of interest such as National Geographic, Scientific American, Smithsonian, HotRod, USNews, anything?

I looked at the letters you posted here. I looked at the photo of the sign. I also looked at other photos of the stone. I do not see the pattern of the Hebrew letters in the picture. You apparently do because you want to.

I'm not arguing with you any further. You are a most unpleasant person to have a conversation with.
