I've seen cranberry supplements in shops and was wondering what they are taken for.
I had a glass of cranberry juice yesterday and am really sick today with rhinitis (constrant dripping nose and red eyes). I've had this before when taking cranberry and sometimes other fruit - which makes me think I have candida.
Does cranberry aggravate mercury or just candida?
Is there a way of testing for candida? I am trying to avoid fruit as much as possible because I usually get flare ups like this if I take some - but not always.

Demi, cranberry juice is very good for urinary tract infections. Many people buy cranberry extract at the health food store for that purpose. If you are concerned about candida, yes, you can be tested. I just don't know what labs you have there in the UK that test for it. You have to do it through a type of alternative medicine doctor. Most mainstream doctors don't test for candida for the most part.

Thanks for the info.
What I really would like to know is how cranberry juice would have brought on rhinitis - it does frequently. Is this because it aggracates candida or mercury? Or am I just allergic to fruit?

There is some sugar so that may very-well be the cause.

Would that be fruit sugar? I have a spoonful of sugar in my coffee, for example, and I have soda a couple of times a week, but they don't give me rhinitis. I only have the rhinitis when I eat or drink fruit - at least about 90% of the time. But the only thing different I took this weekend from the norm was the cranberry.

Demi, if you have candida, sugar of any kind will feed it. So if you don't have a problem with (table sugar) as in what you said you put in your coffee, then you must be having some kind of reaction to something in these fruits. I remember you had a reaction before to fruits and now to the cranberry. Generally speaking, feeding candida some sugar would not cause these rhinitis symptoms you are talking about. When I feed my candida, I just feel crappy, tired, blah!! Some people can tell if they have candida from thrush on their tongue. I think you are having some type of allergic reactions to fruit.

Thanks, Sandra. I could well have candida, and I probably do need to cut down sugar, but doesn't cause same problem fruit does.
Could mercury be causing an allergy to fruit or is it just something I have? I have heard of people having an allergy to fruit, it's not impossible. I've had bad reaction to apple, banana, cranberry, orange and other fruits.

Here's a thought about fruit. I've read about the Feingold Diet for kids with Attention problems or behavior problems, and they eliminate food coloring (FD&C Dyes) and certain fruits from the diet. They say these foods contain natural substances that some people react to. It's not a true allergy, you don't break out in hives or have a breathing problem, but there is a definite reaction. So you might look into that. The Feingold Diet it's called. Joanne
