I'm so frustrated. I want to find a doctor than can help me with all this, especially the mineral balance and adrenal support - monitoring levels and such. I've called several docs and none of them have heard of Andy Cutler, and do the dmps IVs, saying it has been proven the best way and very safe. When I tell them about Cutler's protocol, they say the dmsa is not very effective, crosses the BBB and is dangerous. This is getting frustrating!

I'm in Texas if anyone knows someone.
Thanks!

Shonda

I forgot to add than a couple of them said that their protocol had the dmps chelation starting a few weeks prior to amalgam removal! Scary -- truly scary!

I don't know who scared you so much about it, but I had DMPS IV's, along with EDTA, with several amalgams still in and it's great stuff.

By now after all 'the scary' ideas I've seen presented here about it, I sort of figire it's one of those real good items that falls into disrepute because there are people out there who don't want you to get well too easily.

It's also very affordable, the DMPS IV's, compared to months and months of dmsa (which is quite poisonous all by itself btw) and the months and months of suffering that go along with it.

Just as a note, I have never visited that website you mention before, dmpsbackfire, but I went and had a look just now, read some of the patient testimonies., there's a few dreadful ones, who knows what those people had, but for the main, they sound pretty normal for chelation of any kind... it makes you feel like heck for a bit. What i noticed most of all is the repeated mention of stomach problems, hip/leg problems after DMPS. My hips also started bothering me. Colonic therapy cleared it right up, within a day or two believe it or not, and my progress was quite rapid after that.

My advice to you is no matter what route you choose, make sure you have a plan on hand for colon cleansing while you chelate. I would go the colonic route with DMPS.

Sounds like most of those people were simply not prepared to chelate or willing to see it through all the way. A number of them mention how they gave after the intialial DMPS IV or two made them feel like junk. That is one thing you should not do.

It also sounds to me like most of those people had a bit of already existing colon blockage which caused their chelation to backfire. Not a single one of them mentions paying attention to their body's signal and cleansing their colon. they simply complain about the symptoms but apparently did nothing about it. No wonder they got ill. They would have gotten ill at some point downline anyway.

Someone should write the author of that website a letter and inform her about the necessity of colon cleansing.

manonash - you can always get the dmps IV from them and use it orally, I think andy once suggested doing that and it's safe , it think the iv's solution is safe to consume, and u can just divide the doses, and take it according to cutler. that way u get the same amount of dmps as an iv drip just the safer way and more certainty that more mercury's gonna come out.

What do you think about oral DMPS taken cutler style?

Hi Shonda,
I'm not sure about how to find a good doc for chelation. But for adrenal/ thyroid you could check this aptly named page on "how to find a good doc" from the stop the thyroid madness website:

http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/how-to-find-a-good-doc/

There is a link on that page to patient recommended physians that deal with thyroid/ adrenals. As they point out any doctor can get on the list just because they were nice or the patient like them for some other reason so you still have to be carefull. However, that is how i found a good doc here even though I didn't end up following her recommendations lol.

There are some other suggestions there on how to find a good thyroid doc.

cheers,
Cara

i really don't know, only did the IV's.

my doctor used a slow drip, he mixed the DMPS with the last cup or so of EDTA solution.

It worked real well. I was almost brand new in just several weeks. the first one made me feel real weird that's a fact.

Thanks for your thoughts on this SoSick. My main concern with the DMPS and going too quickly is my daughter. She's 2 and I want to lower my risk of becoming incompacitated for any length of time. I can't guarantee I'll have the same reaction as you did, even with the bowel cleanse. I've heard of people nearly dying from that first dose, before they even get a chance to do colon cleanses, due to the heavy toll it can take on essential minerals. I KNOW I'm really low in zinc and calcium, plus some others I am sure, so this scares me. You mentioned the DMSA being more toxic. Could you explain please? Thanks.

Jinx, I didn't realize you could do the DMPS oral at lower doses. I'll do some reading up on that, thanx. BTW, how are doing lately? I haven't been reading all the threads recently so may have missed your progress.

oh, you didn't miss anything. there is no progress.

but thanx for asking.

and I'm sorry, but I think SoSick is wrong on this. It's the dmps that is more toxic, not dmsa. Dmsa has really low toxicity. remember, it has been used in children many times. but overall there seems to be some adavantage of dmps over dmsa:
- it has more affinity towards mercury than DMSA
- it doesn't cause neutropenia the same way dmsa does (temporarliy, it might make u more susceptible to yeasts and other pathogens when chelating)
- if u decide to take it the cutler way you can take it every 6-8 hours vs every 3 hours dmsa , much more convenient.
- it's sure that it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, dmsa probably doesn't as well so it's a debatable matter, so if u want t get your body burden first down first before going for the brain mercury , dmps would seem a better alternative.

the downside is, as I said, bigger toxicity, and probably the costs.

Thanks Jinx. sorry to hear you aren't doing any better. Hopefully soon!

I found this post from Andy while perusing one of the yahoo groups on chelation:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Autism-Mercury/message/139156
It compares some of the different chelators based on his experiences with them.
