Treva, this is probably the worst and single most riskiest thing you could do to yourself and that's taking alpha lipoc acid whilst you've still got amalgams and/or are still mercury toxic. Andy Cutler has warned about this and those that have used it inappropriately, have sometimes wound up irreversibly worse! I mean seriously so.

ALA is not just a powerful antioxidant and great for the liver and increase glutathione, but it also happens to be a powerful mercury chelating agent and can pass across the blood brain barrier. The problem with that is, if you still have amalgams and/or are still burdened with high body/blood mercury, it will take that mercury with it and deposit much more INTO your brain and other more sensitive areas and possibly make you very ill at best.

Look I'm giving you the worst case senario, because I would hate to see you hurt yourself over something like this, just because a doctor has the best of intentions, does not mean they all understand the nature of mercury and how to chelate it. There are some that do and others that don't. Many people on these forums are here because they've been screwed up badly by doctors!

If you handle chlorophyll? That might be ok. I would steer CLEAR of ALA, until after you have all amalgams removed and have first detoxed your body areas of mercury, and/or waited 3-4 months or more post amalgam removal before adding ALA to the programme.

If you do use it? According to Cutler, who has studied this for years and deals with many people around the world on a daily basis, it should be used in SMALL doses and taken frequently (every 3 hours around the clock for a few days straight and then a break of the same amount of time and repeat the same cycle until chelated of mercury).

If the ALA is used in a large intermittent/infrequent dose, then the movement of mercury will be the same and again can wind up in worse areas, brain included and mess you up really good. I knew a person online, who was doing ok on his doctor's regime of chelation and wound up being put on high dose ALA infrequently and ended up in a psychiatric unit. Andy had to work with him to try and get him right. I never heard from him again and never knew what happened. I assumed the worst, but I hope not! The guy was a mess after the ALA.

It is up to you what you wish to do, but I feel better to warn you of this first. ALA is not to be trifled with when you're mercury toxic. Many people may assume it's just a powerful liver antixodant that as a nice side effect, happens to detox mercury......it's much more than that.

Please be careful. The other stuff sounds much safer. you may still get some detox symptoms, but at least they don't pose the danger of ALA chelation at this point. Again it's up to you if you decide to do this anyway, but I do not feel that it is worth the slightest risk of irreversble damage. This was mentioned on here quite sometime ago about what was stated, and I wished I had saved the actual post. It was very sobering!

take care.
