I am looking for a mattress for my daughter. I read an interesting piece of an earlier thread that a few people had purchased natural latex mattresses after discovering that most mattresses are a toxic soup of chemicals. For those who have natural latex mattresses, how do they compare to Tempurpedic-type material as far as support and feel? I have been unable to find a local retailer who stocks the all-natural ones so that I could try one.
Also, the links to sources where the posters purchased mattresses were all UK-based companies. Does anyone have any experience with companies in the US? I have found several online, but hesitate to purchase something so large without trying one out or having some feedback about the company.

I recently bought an organic natural latex mattress. It replaced a Tempur foam mattress.
They are pretty similar in terms of comfort and feel and support, the Tempur is softer, you sink in more and it is warmer. On the tempur I would wake up very hot in the morning as the foam keeps in all the heat and warms up through the night the longer you are in the bed.
I’m not saying the organic is cold, I’m saying the tempur was very warm and the organic normal temp.
I find the support for my back is equal on both mattresses, i.e. both very good.
I thought the tempur was the most comfortable bed I ever slept on…until I got the organic latex. I guess you would say the organic is firmer, but that’s only because the foam is so soft.
I am over the moon happy with mine, money well spent. (I got my from Wales, so that’s of no use to you.)
I too did not try before I bought, but I did discuss with the manufactures and they said if I didn’t take the plastic cover off I could return it, if it was still rapped up and as new. I would have had to pay shipping cost. So I slept on it for two nights with the plastic on it, just to be sure it was ok. It was.
Good luck

Hi. I bought a memory foam mattress from sealy. It was pretty much the same as tempurpedic. Oh my god, the smell was horrible! I thought maybe it was the plastic cover on it, so I tried to air it out. Air filter going 24 hours, I kept the window open as much as possible, put a allergen cover on it with a mattress pad on top of that.... It still smelled like chemicals and I felt terrible. I still had the mercury and yeast at the time. I really think it hurt my adrenals bad, because i was worse after that. outgassed petrochemical exposure or something like that. I was able to trade it in for another mattress, with only loosing about $200 from the shipping cost and other expenses. I don't know to much about the latex. I just avoided that because I have a latex sensitivity. Now I have a mattress with a just a memory foam top that is underneath a quilted top. No smell at all. I love it.
