Hi, my name is Shonda. I have been having health problems for 10yrs. I've tried all sorts of things to heal myself and taken useless tests and had some possibly useful tests I couldn't interpret. I just think though this Hg poisoning thing may be me.

I have 16 amalgams. 8 are under crowns (the kind with the metal plate underneath), 2 of which are silver. One of the crowns has a root canal thru it. And, I have two titanium retainers from ortho work.

I didn't think of it till I came here, but my first major symptoms (peripheral neuropathy in my chest and leg) started about the same time as I had a crown put on and I also started noticing pain in one of my already crowned teeth. It's all been downhill from there.

I have symptoms of adrenal fatigue, and some symptoms of hypothyroid. I never thought I had HT because I am very thin and can't gain wt. I have high histamine levels. I have peripheral neuropathy in my side, chest and leg (all on the left side) that starts hurting when I eat carbohydrates (pretty much any type at this point). I get visual disturbances (last night I closed my eyes and saw gold streaks moving the the rhythm of the box fan we had running). My hearing is getting distorted. I have lichen planus that comes and goes (appears to be estrogen sensitive). I get fever blisters in my mouth. I pretty much get some sort of problem with almost any food I eat. My emotions are starting to flatten, except the anxiety ones, which are worsening along with my OCD symptoms. My eyelid and eardrum twitch -- also carb sensitive and on the left side. The thing is, I look fine to most. And, all my symptoms are not debilitating in and of themselves, it's just that taken together, they scream, "Something is really wrong here." They've come and gone in severity depending on my diet. At one time, I had them symptoms under control by limiting my carbs and then limiting the type of carbs I ate, but eventually, it all came back.

I crave sugar, salt, eggs (well I did until this tummy bug that I just got over -- I would eat 4 - 10 eggs a day). I felt better on a SAMe supplement I was taking for OCD. Oh, and I have OCD <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

Should I feel better or worse on SAMe? Eggs?
I'm breastfeeding, does anyone know where I can get my breastmilk tested for Hg levels?
With the crowns and amalgam removal, is there a high chance I'm gonna lose several of those teeth? What about the root canal? I'm 38yrs old. I really hate the idea of having to have teeth pulled.
I used to have horrible yeast infections, but haven't had a vaginal one or thrush or anything in years. I thought Hg poisoned people almost always had yeast problems.
I also went into complete remission of symptoms during pregnancy; wouldn't Hg symptoms stick around, or would the change in adrenal/thyroid hormones mask it?

I've had many of these fillings since I was in elementary school/junior high, and have had a couple replaced. Most have just been crowned because they were so large to begin with, the dentist wouldn't replace them. My first dentist just unscruplously filled teeth for money, and my mouth was full of metal before we caught onto what he was doing. The second just buys into the ADA's line on Hg. I really want these things replaced, but the dough this in gonna cost overwhelms me, but the cost to my health is worth it. It would be easier for me to spend it if I could prove the poisoning. Reading about detox scares me too. I'm ok with getting worse for a while if I will heal for good after that; I'm just scared I'll get worse and then get stuck there.

I'm making an appt with a functional medicine physician in Dallas soon. I have talked with her assistant and am hopeful. She specializes in metabolic/endocrine hormones and does believe in Hg poisoning. I'm not even sure I would need any testing. As much Hg as is in my mouth, is there any doubt I have a Hg problem? I also know that Hg can cause thyroid problems with then cause the adrenal fatigue.

Sorry if this is long and rambling. I just made this connection and I'm overwhelmed. I've thought it could be Hg before, but for some reason it didn't stick with me until recently. I've been reading this forum now for days and am to page 14 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. Thank to all of you for posts!
