A very short history about me before my question on symptoms: I am sure that all my problems are due to mercury poisoning even though it has taken me approximately ten years (I think, do not have my notes with me.) to figure it out. After finally reading about mercury poisoning in my search to find what was wrong with me, it all makes since because my life started turning into a living hell after I had may amalgam fillings removed without any precautions whatsoever and had a new cap placed.

As I read through Andy. Cutler’s book, he keeps mentioning that hypothyroidism and low ACTH are indicators of mercury poisoning. Well, this is where my confusion comes in. During my quest to find what was wrong with me, I have had many tests ran and I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease (which is hyperthyroidism) and my ACTH is high. For those of you that are interested and know about the different labs, I will tell you more, because they are confusing.
High ACTH but low cortical.
Low TSH but normal T3 and T4.
Increase TSI
I also have symptoms of OCD, anxiety etc.

So, I guess my question is can mercury poisoning cause hyperthyroidism and high ACTH also? I would be surprised if it could not, because in my opinion, after some research, mercury can do all kinds of weird things and acts different on different people but, Andy Cutler never mentions this. Or, do you think I do not have mercury poisoning and my symptoms are caused by something else.

Thanks, bfree

Yes, because mercury causes imbalances in body systems and especially hormones because it inteferes with those areas of the brain also, as well as the body. Either blocking, slowing down, or over- stimulating.

Removing mercury can often bring things back into balance again (if it is mercury doing this). Problem is, it takes time to detox this metal and in that time, one can be suffering from the ongoing effects of mercury and may need to take certain things to help them keep going.

Symptoms of OCD/anxiety are pretty classic symptoms too. I've had all that and it really makes you do some strange things or think in ways you wish you wouldn't. You feel almost unable to stop doing these things. Like ritualistic behaviours, constant checking, obsessive thoughts, etc.

Candida is also responsible for many things like this too because of its toxins that can affect the liver and brain etc.

So sometimes you have to treat more than one thing to gain any kind of relief from symptoms. Andy doesn't mention everything in his book, but he gives you a very good idea of what it can do.

E.g. mercury can often cause very low cholesterol levels or apparently high. I have had very low, I've also had very high. I don't take much note of them because I know cholesterol is actually vital for proper functioning and healing. And is not quite the baddie it's made out to be. Cholesterol is required for healing too and hal Huggins encourages people to consume butter, eggs and meat, whilst avoiding caffeine, sugars, gluten/wheat, milk.

I'm not saying it IS mercury, but I know that mercury can do almost anything to a person. Whilst one person can be underweight, another can be overweight and often unable to change their situation even with efforts. It's a poison that can seem to cause extremes.

I used to walk around with puffy legs all the time with this poison. I was just kind of bloated. I improved with the candida diet, but not entirely.

I think when you make efforts and there are persistant symptoms regardless of what you do? You can usually be sure there is something at work 24/7 that is not allowing healing to take place fully. You may improve by efforts, but there may not be that complete healing taking place and there is usually these underlying persistant odd symptoms that seem to remain. Often they are in the mouth! Unless someone is smoking a lot and drinking alcohol and consuming junkfood, in which case the cause of ongoing sickness maybe pretty obvious. But the body is pretty resisiliant and it should not be sick everyday unless there is an ongoing source of something keeping it down. Just my opinion.

I think it is well worth the effort to eliminate mercury either way out of your mouth, and body and treat any yeast or parasites too. At least it's one avenue you can do something about. Sometimes the only way you can find out what is wrong is just by eliminating and working on all possible factors and continuing this until you hopefully hit the jackpot.

Like with myself, replacing my ageing apparently incompatible composites wtih bicompatible porcelain....well it hasn't helped, but I had to do this in case it was a factor in my sickness. Plus I needed to get them done anyway.

next is possibly cavitation surgery if I can ever get that done. Trying to eliminate these things one by one is hard work, but doing nothing is just not an option.

i was 22 yrs old when diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and i believe i got it from amalgam and vaccines. I had most my thyroid removed because it was so bad but there are alternatives now, like getting amalgam out and chelating. Books and websites always mention mercury causing hypo but i believe it can cause hypo and hyper thyroid.

hi
I have had some problems with brain fog and not wanting to go out in public...alot of ocd problems. It is getting better now. I also have problems with cold hands and feet as well as tingling also. I stay cold alot but that is getting a tiny bit better. I have suffered depression since I was a teen. Mercury can do really weird things.

Thanks everyone! I was hoping to hear what I am hearing because I know that all my problems started after I got my amalgam fillings removed and the dentist did not use any precautions. I just thought is was wired that Andy Cutler only mentions hypothyroidism and decreased ACTH so, after hearing from all of you, I am sure I am on the right track.

skieslimit and sunflower, do I understand it right, that your ocd symptoms are getting better with the detoxification program? The ocd is the most debilitating symptom that I have.

Thanks again, bfree

Hi bfree,
I have had a whole lot of strange & even stranger symptoms over the years...I'm not sure what is helping, because sometimes I just don't feel like I'm getting very far with my recovery...but during the better moments I don't notice my symptoms as much. And symptoms seem to appear, disappear &sometimes reappear out of the blue.
I have never been diagnosed with ocd but I definitely have some of ocd, (I think maybe everyone does to some degree)
I am slightly embarrassed to admit this but I do certain things
because on some level I think if I don't that something bad might happen.I do not have little rituals like hitting light switches and such but I'm strange about some things like people have to take their shoes off in my flat, when I'm hanging clothes out to dry I am particular about the colour of pegs I use ,for example I would never use green on a blue shirt or I would think it might bring bad luck to whoever wears the shirt(that's one example.)
(I KNOW HOW NUTS THIS IS!)And I always reassure myself that if I'm aware of how nuts this is then I can't be too crazy !
I can't believe I'm telling anyone this.
Do you think these are ocd symptoms or just some kind of superstitious behavior?

I don't know if it's OCD or superstition or what, but whatever it is, it's an unbalanced kind of thinking process and you become overly concerned or obsessed by certain things or you feel compelled to do it, even though you know intelligently that it's unnecessary.

I've been there and still go there. Just depends on how my health is and what's being affected. I"m prone to that kind of behaviour I guess and it doesn't take much for me to slip into it. Everybody has certain weaknesses too, so I think certain toxins emphasise that or even cause it.

Oh I so understand what you're saying, sunflower. I would say it's some OCD symptoms, because I have those, too. I know how embarassing it is, too. For instance, when I go grocery shopping, I have to buy an even number of items, such as cans of soup or something. I CANNOT buy 1 can or 3 cans, I have to get 2 or 4, or something like that. Everything must go in pairs. Odd numbers of material things freak me out. I cannot buy ONE of anything, I don't think. I always have to get 2, if there's something I need. I can't describe why, but it makes me feel "uncomfortable" if I do, and kind of nervous.

I have suspected for some time that my mom has some slight mercury poisoning, and she too has some of these weird "rituals", such as all of her soda cans in the fridge must have the labels facing toward the front and be lined up straight, etc.

It is behavior that I am fully aware of, and I do not know how to stop it. I so wish I could, because it is awkward and weird to say the least. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/looney.gif" alt="" />

Mommy24,
I know my symptoms might sound strange to someone else,
but I don't worry because I know this will pass as I get better,
also I am aware of it and can have a laugh about it,and also
I don't feel it's very bad, I know it's not the end of the world
because someone walks in wearing their shoes or if I use a certain colour clothes peg etc.
I did confide this to my sister one day,she reckons I just have way too much spare time!

lol, yea I will just have to deal with it. Hopefully once I start getting myself cleaned out, things will clear up, and maybe some of these things will fade away.
