Psyllium has been the subject of clinical trials which have confirmed the herb?s action as both an anti-diarrheal and as a laxative, promoting the restoration of healthy bowel functioning. Psyllium hulls act like a ?broom,? cleansing the colon and absorbing toxins adhered to intestinal walls. Psyllium increases available water content within the large intestine, thus increasing the bulk of the stool and making its passage easier, thus helping to relieve hemorrhoids. Russ, I'd be interested to hear your feedback on the following. I read here that an excess of fiber in one's diet can cause tiny wounds in the bowels that eventually leads to colon cancer. I believe a happy medium is an answer to most issues. After all, too much of anything is bad for you (too much celery could cause cancer even -- of course that's a whole heck of a lot of celery!) But still, I wonder if regular consumption of large quantities of fiber, while alleviating constipation and other symptoms, might be doing long term damage to your intestine or colon at the same time. Thoughts? -egan

Hey, just to add to that I wanted to throw out a quote from the webpage I listed in my previous post, pertaining to fiber:
Fiber
They say constipation is caused by a lack of fiber in the food, but that is rubbish ; our most natural food, fruit, does not contain much fiber : 2% average, but does move the bowels. A watermelon only contains 0,2% fiber, but consuming watermelons only, your colon definitely will be active. White bread and cookies on the other hand do cause constipation, containing more fiber (3%) !!!
According to the author of this website, you should: Consume as much fruits (there are about 6000 different fruits) and some fresh raw animal food regularly (like sashimi or egg yolk). These foods combined already contain all nutrients you need.
Just some food for thought. It makes me wonder if this alleged need for fiber is mere propaganda supported by big businesses with vested interests. Maybe it's not the amount of fiber that's essential so much as the type of fiber -- which, in turn, makes me wonder if Metamucil is really all it's hyped up to be .

I do agree with much of what that web page says, however, there are some real-poor over simplifications. Our primary food should not be fruit. This is true for many reasons. Generally speaking, it should be vegetables. If you're an "O" blood type, you should include more protein in your diet than "A" types. If you have heavy metals in your body (many or most do), this changes the game considerably and can also cause constipation and changes dietary requirements considerably. ...and even promotes falling a sleep, to eat a piece of sweet fruit (or something else sweet) just before you go to bed. (see site13) This only contains sufficient energy to last for half an hour, and the burning of body-fat does not start immediately Problem with this is that it works in a perfect world and only with certain blood types. If you add other factors into the mix (which affect most people) the story becomes quite different. Following this advice could ruin the sleep for many people. It's oversimplified. Vegetables contain little protein and therefore little mutagenic HCA when prepared, but they generally do contain much nitrate which enhances origination of carcinogenic N-nitroso-compounds. And even those few mutagenics can still cause cancer. Excessive fiber can also cause colon cancer, because repeatedly inflicting wounds upon the colon does. Again, this is an oversimplification. Vegetables affect body pH which affects cancer profoundly. There are also immune reactions to consider, etc. There is a lot more to it than this than the author is saying. Like everything else, there is no "silver bullet", including the need for fiber. Success comes in balance and moderation and in finding the actual cause of a specific personal problem. Constipation has a myriad of causes. Concerning balance and moderation: Oxygen is harmful alone but in the presence of vitamin E, it's beneficial. somehow, supplementary iron can also cause constipation This is true only if the iron is elemental (not organic). Take a bowl full of "Total" cereal, crush it up and run a magnet over it. You well see a mist of "food-grade" elemental iron filings cling to the magnet (I've done it). This is sold to the public as "nutrition". Again, the information on that web page is not complete and not entirely accurate. Consuming egg yolks can be harmful for mercury-toxic people (a large percentage of Americans are) and can actually cause constipation because of the interaction between sulfur in the yolk and mercury. There is both good and bad information on the Internet. Discerning it is an art. Keep up the research.

I read that oatmeal does help flush alot of the mercury out of the stomach and intestinal tract.-- get the unrefined Irish oatmeal!
Also t Psyllum is good to use a few times a month to scrape the gunk out-- but be sure to have enough liquids between meals. Also to not over due it. Using psyllum every day can irritate the Celia in the intestines, so use in moderation. Nevertheless, it is awesome in sweeping things out when they get out of hand!
I use psyllum capsules for 7 days each month.
The rest of the time, Ive been using the herb , Cascara Sagrada mixed with some other herbs. That stuff actually ISNT a laxative, but , rather, a stimulant! It tones and stimulates the bowels to push out fecal matter and doenst create a dependency. It actually is good for the lower intestine and colon in keeping the muscles in shape if they have gotten lax. A laxative won't do this. Even the herb, Senna, is a laxative- so I'd rather stick with Cascara Sagrada the majority of the time.
That stuff really works too! If I take two capsules at night, I really get cleaned out in the morning- yet the elimination is gentle.
Scince childhood, I have always eaten rough unrefined type foods because I love the feel of the food moving down my throat. I hate mushy refined things. I never had stomach aches in my life, or any type of irritable bowel issues, etc., The only time I get constipation is when eating pies and desserts with refined flour, and lots of dairy and meat. Usually after a large dinner of meat , etc., I would crave a bag of popcorn for the roughage.
Nowadays I dont eat meat, but eat more raw veggies and fruits- (except turkey now when getting my fillings replaced for the animal protein!)
My grandmother never ate anything with fiber because she was told it would hurt her. She peeled everything- even apples, before she ate them. She was mortified at eating an apple core or apple seeds with the apple. She died of advanced colon cancer in her 60's..

It is not uncommon for mercury toxic people to feel drowsy or very tired after defecating. This was one of my many symptoms when my fillings were still in. http://herballure.com/mms

I have been using the ALGIN, IRON, and PSYLLIUM HULLS that I purchase from http://OnlytheBestHerbs.com. All of which work very well together. Because of other health issues, I can not have my amalgams removed. So this has really been a 'life saver' to help rid my body of the mercury, metals, cadmium , etc. Another thing that really helps is the DMSA which can not be purchased in the USA (now), that I am aware of. DMSA binds to mercy, lead and zinc, helping elimate it from the body. I get this from Amazon.com // Before using these supplements I was terribly sick. I could not function, no energy at all, and my mind was asleep, if you will. (smile) Now, I feel much better, look forward to the day and get busy with a Bible Ministry, by the grace of the Lord. I hope this helps those who are not able, for some reason to have their amalgams removed. Of course I take a good Multi-Vitamin, Mineral Supplement made by Equate, from Walmart. I sincerely hope this is helpful to those who are feeling zapped by the mercury toxicity. Now we have the aluminum, barium, stratium and other chemicals in our air, that we are forced to breathe, from Geoengineering. Please help us get the word out to STOP THE CHEMTRAIL SPRAYING! So take what you need, and feel better. "Life is but a vapor." Reach out and help others. Thank you, Russ Tanner. You have truly given me the stamina and health that was lost after the brain surgery.

I have found that taking the psyllium every day can build up in my system and cause diarrhea. So adjust it to your particular body needs. Sometimes 2 a day is fine. But in my diet, I would never take more than that. Take care!
