I had a tooth that became painful about 3 months or so after my healthy dental revision. I went back to my biological dentist and he said it was being caused by uneven surface of the new composite. He "filed" it down and evened it out and I haven't had any problems with it.

He told me that even just one tooth with an uneven surface or a surface that isn't precise enough from a dental restoration can cause lots of pain, misalignment of the jaw and a whole host of problems.

I had forgotten that he told me that he'd probably have to adjust the surfaces and "file" them when he originally removed my amalgams and gave me the new composite stuff. The reason I forgot was because I was coming out of the conscious sedation. I guess I was so groggy that I couldn't help him in testing the surfaces with my bite. lol

Anyway, in addition to what's been offered by Linda above, I thought I'd share my experience with you in case it might be applicable.

Another thing I've learned is that my Lyme Disease can cause tooth pain and jaw pain as well. They're not sure exactly why the borrelia infection (and the co-infections) can do that, but they do.
