Hi there,

I don't know why it never entered my mind, but since I still have what appears to be a big chunk of amalgam under my porcelain filling that was now done almost 3 years ago come February, I believe this could be what's making me sick over and over again.

Since the initial mercury vapor made me really ill, I am afraid of being re-exposed to any mercury, but I am also desperate not to feel sick any more. Perhaps I cannot get better until I take the last bit out, and this could also be true that my white filling is starting to weaken and therefore I'm getting toxic from that small piece of amalgam again. This is the best explanation I have for feeling more sick for the past 6 months. I was doing so much better from Jan-June this year, was able to work normally, took almost no sick days, went out with my friends and almost started to forget about this horrible event...And now, it's pretty bad again...

So any suggestions? I am even ready to go to the dentist and have the tooth pulled and just end it like that for now. I would give more that one tooth to never feel this sick again. I am sure most of you on this forum can understand.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Best,
Nina

Hi Nina, I"m sorry to hear this. But it happens. Unfortunately there are some dentists who don't do a thorough job with removing amalgam and often don't like to drill too deep, so leave some behind. (I've had it myself).

I would definitely get to a biologic dentist and get that amalgam out of there. Make sure too that the porcelain you have does not have a metal base attached to it.

I have actually just had my plastic composites redone with cerec porcelain and am very happy with it. Solid porcelain, no metal base attached and is pretty biocompatible (but expensive). AT least it will last though and they don't tend to leach out their components, so are a good alternative to amalgam and composites.

Having amalgam left over, usually prevents the body from releasing mercury properly and I'm beginning to feel that even a small amount maybe enough to cause the body to retain mercury and cause problems when the person tries to use chelating agents.

I think I read somewhere that until the very last "scrap" of amalgam is removed, the body will usually not heal from this conditon. Though I know having less is still much better, there seems to be a machinism in the body that only detoxes mercury properly when there is NO more amalgam.

One of the best things I ever did was change my diet. I had no idea how much of a massive impact this has on anybody who is toxic. Dr Hal Huggins said that diets destroy more recoveries than anything else (mercury patients). which is why it is so essential. Many people with mercury toxicity or other illness suffer with candida (yeast overgrowth) which causes many of the same symptoms as mercury and can overload your gut and liver (which are needed to detox metals and other things).

They can cause overlapping symptoms with mercury, so much so you may not know which one is responsible for what. So I believe that a candida diet (sugar free, gluten free etc) is crucial to lower yeast levels in the body and support detox and help healing.

In fact, I believe this is the first and most important step. A dentist here in my country treats all his mercury patients with a proper sugar free diet first and will not even remove their amalgams unless they have been on this diet for a few weeks and improved their health and lowered yeast levels.

So that's how important it is. From there, once the body is a bit stronger, you can handle other things much easier (including exposure to mercury). So if you're not on a diet like that, I'd highly recommend it!

It is also wise to make sure you get enough healthy fat and proteins, particuarly in mercury poisoning. This means plenty of butter, lard, extra virgin olive oil, mercury free fish oil, meats, eggs, the whole deal. They help protect you, heal the brain, skin, hormones, etc. Very necessary.

Hal Huggins admitted that in all his years of treating mercury toxic patients, he has not yet been able to cure a vegetarian for reasons he does not understand. He advocates meat and eggs and fats too. NOT vegetable fats, but animal fats! The only vegetable fat that is ok is olive oil apparently. And eating plenty of vegetables (excluding high carb like potatoes and corn/peas/beans, they can feed candida). Particularly raw vegtables are great! Help clean you out, good for the liver etc. And raw nuts are good too (almonds/brazil) and acidophilus yoghurt (plain sugar free). NO caffeine, does something pretty bad in mercury toxic people. Best to consume herbal tea. And stay away from milk and cheese too.

This is what I pretty much survive on and find it is the only thing that really works. I could once have some limited gluten free grains and fruit, but at the moment I'm too ill and high in candida to consume those foods. So I have to be extra strict. The diet can be relaxed again later as the person improves and heals. Sugar is the worst culprit and should not be consumed. There is more than enough available energy and natural sugars in every other healthy food anyway, but not in the same unhealthy or excessive form.

I would also make sure you're getting plenty of antioxidants, which mercury uses up. Like vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, and maybe milk thistle too etc and B complex, magnesium. These seem to be good to take during this toxicity, if you don't react adversely to any of them of course.

Check out Dr Weston Price online with his findings!

I hope this is helpful to you. Aside from that, after amalgam removal, you might want to look at getting into some serious chelation. The best and safest protocol I can recommend, and one that more and more people are taking onboard is the Andrew Hall Cutler frequent dose chelation. Becoming increasingly popular!

HI Nina

Yes, unfortunately you are correct in your thinking. That last little bit of amalgam in there is holding you back. Hal Huggings & Andy Cutler both talk at length about the need to remove every single last drop of amalgam from the tooth. Something about a constant stream of mercury escaping from the amalgam that keeps your body on red alert and unable to let go. Once the tap has been turned off (ie all mercury removed) only then does healing start.

Also, any chelating done with DMPS, DMSA, ALA will pull the mercury out of the last remaining drop and redistribute. It may seem a little bit, but there is plenty of mercury in there leaking, escaping and holding you back.

As much as it hurts to go to the dentist and face possible exposure, removal of all amalgam is essential for your long term health.

How on earth do you know there is still a bit in there?

And, when did you go amalgam free? Could you be in the dumping phase?

hi nina: I just had my bridge work removed and replaced last fall because of the same thing , the dentist that installed the bridge did not remove all the amalgam under the bridge work so I know what is going through your mind , in the book " its all in your head" by hal huggins mentions that most people must remove every last bit of amalgam in order to make a complete recovery , extraction is an option ,but you may face the problem of cavitations if done improperly , chances are that there is probably a very small amount of amalgam under the crown and the exposure will probably be much less than before ,so you will rebound much quicker this time ,another good thing to remember is that once you do remove that last bit of mercury by a safe dentist your recovery will be permanent

Nina you have to remove this to get well. Your immune system can never recover if you still have amalgam in your mouth.

BTW How did you find out that there was still amalgam there?

Apparently her teeth grew back which pushed the filling out ?? Ideally, that would be better than ever visiting a dentist. That thread doesnt even mention mercury fillings, yet it might help with it.

I was told that an x ray will show if there is still amalgam left. With me this was not necessary. I can clearly see a black chunk at the root of my tooth underneath the filling.

I have my two silver fillings drilled out in Feb 2005, so I am far from initial dumpting phase when I was so ill I hate to even remember.

I am better compared to then of course, but I have always been wondering why I relaps so easily and so often. This here is my answer. I must remove every bit of it.

How can they remove something that is so close to the top of the tooth? It's seems impossible other than taking the tooth out....

There is only one holistic dentist in another town, and he sounds like a real ***hole, so I am not even sure if I should just go to him. What are the risks at this time of going to the regular dentist and having the tooth removed?

I somehow now know that this is the only way I will finally truly be better.

Hi Nina, what a pity the holistic dentist is an a-hole! Because he/she would have the right tools and knowledge in this area in order to help you, so that is very frustrating.

If you feel that the amalgam left over is pretty much taking over the entire tooth and that removing it, would probably leave little tooth behind, perhaps removal might be the best idea... But if you can save it, great.

Just be aware that removing a tooth can also be risky because many dentists do not remove the periodontal ligament afterwards, which can then cause a cavitation. This is because the bone that would otherwise have grown over the area where the tooth was removed, cannot do so properly (if at all) if there is an obstruction there (ligament). The ligament has no further use after the tooth has gone, yet most dentists just leave it there to.....? (rot?).

Also another risk is vaso constrictors in local anaesthetics. They work by more "effectively" numbing the area and for a much longer time apparently, but unfortunately they cut off so much blood supply that for an extended period can be a risk for a development of a cavitation. The area needs circulation to heal and cutting it off for too long, can actually also contribute to dead teeth I hear.

Cavitations can be risky in that the bacteria that forms in those areas is particularly potent and can become systemtic. The body may not be able to hold the infection locally and it can spread making a person very unwell. It can be worse than mercury!

So if you do get the tooth removed, just ask for the periodontal ligament to be removed and request a NON vaso constrictor injection (even if you tell them you react very badly to them). i requested it at my last visit to a general mainstream dentist and he was very good. He did exactly as I asked.

So if you can find a dentist that will listen to your concerns and is willing to do this for you, then you should be fine. Also, it is better that they do not pack the site after removing the tooth. Again apparently these things can interfere with healing to the area. Anything that is an obstruction should be avoided.

Good posting Bex! I'll keep that advice in my mind.

At first I also thought about having my filling removed by an ordinary dentist (I was a newbie then). However, somehow I got the impression that that particular dentist who was supposed to do the removal looked wildly incompetent, she didn't know about the dangers of the mercury fumes and in retrospect she looked rather mercury poisoned herself. The problem with ordinary dentists is not only that they expose you to mercury fumes, but they also tend to leave lots of amalgam behind. A biological dentist cost me 2X more, but I think it was worth it. I also asked that everything should be removed, and the dentist drilled even a bit more into the bottom, before the plastic filling was placed, so I guess not much amalgam was left behind. I spoke to another person today who had one of her amalgam fillings removed and replaced with a plastic, and bad things happened. There was still amalgam under the plastic filling, and in the end, the whole tooth had to go. This is why you definitely do not want an ordinary dentist to do the job!! And yes, you have to get ALL the amalgam out before healing can take place.

I think the filling somehow broke, and there was something suspicious sticking out beneath it (amalgam), and there were actually some other problems (which I cant remember exactly what it was) with that filling as well (which caused pain), so a poorly made job in addition.

Hi Pgm, thanks. I didn't even know cavitations existed, never heard of them until I started trying to investigate WHY after a wisdom tooth was removed, did my already viral infection system plummet even further.

I can't honestly explain the nightmare I entered after my bottom lefthand wisdom tooth was removed and seemingly no explanation. That's when I came across the cavitation explanation, which "may" be what happened to me.

Unfortunately they are VERY hard to detect and can be hidden cavitations. Most people have them, but I guess it depends which ones are really causing the problems, most infected etc.

E.g. I have apparently had cavitations most of my life on the upper lot of my jaw, yet never noticed issues. Yet when the left lower side was done, wham I got ill, YET hardly a thing shows up on xrays on that particular side, but does show the other ones more clearly.

So it goes to show that even a small gap, maybe enough to store potent bacteria. And in the lower left side, I had a particularly bad time with the oral surgeon who pulled that tooth. He used a razor spinning type blade to cut around the tooth and I wonder sometimes whether alot of dead tissue remained after it was all stitched up, because I was in a lot of pain, he used a heck of a lot of vaso constrictor anaesthetic, which I hate to imagine what that did to the area. I could not get numb, I had heart palpitations through the entire procedure and I just wonder whether there was some damage done because of it all.

A doctor keeps detecting dead pulp in that same area everytime he tests me on his Voll machine....he just keeps saying wet gangrene, so I think there is stuff under there left over from the job that is basically just rot. But again I don't know for certain.

And yes, like leftover amalgam. even a little bit can make the world of difference I heard. I didn't know, but all those years I had a bit of amalgam sitting under my top left composites, only recently discovered when they were replaced with porcleain. So who knows what impact that has had too? And all the horrors I went through to chelate mercury, when I may have been going through half of that agony due to leftover amalgam.....

I don't think most dentists really know how much of an impact the mouth has on the entire body and I am very wary of all dentists, but at least biologic ones have much more knowledge than the mainstream ones who don't seem to take those things into account.

THe one I jsut went to is a mainstream dentist, but at least he was an honest one and listened and I believe he did do what I requested and was made aware of my amalgam toxicity and sensitivity too, which is why he informed me of the bit that had been left over from my past replacements.

It's just a pity that he still uses amalgam in his surgery, so it's concerning that he no doubt does not really buy into the toxicity side of it. However, he seemed to admit that there are definitely more sensitive people around to mercury that would obviously be better off without amalgam, but he said that a lot of people cannot afford the more expensive materials like composites/porcelain.

I felt like saying that the amount of potential damage mercury from amalgam can do, will financially cripple a lot of people in the future when they're paying out medical costs because of it. I'd rather pay more short term for safer materials, than pay far more later on in every way!

I just wanted to share with all of you that I am going to a holistic dentist tomorrow to take care of what's left of the amalgam on my porcelain filling that I believe has made me severely ill in the past weeks. The filling appears to be cracked and could therefore be leaking mercury, which is no good for me as you read from my previous posts.

Anyways, the holistic dentist sounded a bit better on the phone, therefore giving me hope that things will go well tomorrow. At least he is aware that this is poisousness and that must count for something. It's my last drop of faith.

Any last words of wisdom before I sit into the dentist's chair tomorrow? Needless to say that I am deathly afraid, but I believe this is the solution that I have been waiting for and that I will begin to heal... Ofc I will have Algin on hand, anything else I can do before or after to limit my exposure?

Keep your finers crossed for me and I could use a prayer too!

I will write after my experience.

I didn't get the tooth removed. It took forever to get to the dentist, I was travelling to another town in the blizzard to get this done.

Anyways, he is a homeopath and he linked my problems to other things, saying that that much damage could not have been caused by two fillings and that I have no more amalgam, it's just the cavity.

Now I'm totally confused, I didn't get any dental work done, he gave me some homeopathic medication which helped short term but then relaped right back. He doesn't drill during his procedures, so I assume it will be safest to go back to him to have dental work done, but I am no seriously confused, it is the leftover amalgam, or is it just that I still have mercury in my system?? I have no clue...I had it pretty bad last night with tremors and mental symptoms making me want to pull my hair out, but now I feel like I can actually function...I do rebounce much quicker than before, but it's still good from afar, but far from good...

Hi Nina, I would suggest a second opinion. Even from a mainstream dentist, they can still respect your feelings on amalgam, especially a really nice/honest one and they are out there! They will still check for leftover amalgam and make sure he/she is very thorough.

This is what you should definitely do in my opinion. A second opinion, a second pair of eyes and expertise to check that there is absolutely NO amalgam sitting in there. Did you get a panoramic xray? This is a MUST, as well as thorough oral examination. The two go hand in hand, the dentist is not perfect and should be doing all he/she can to check everything out from all angles.

The holistic dentist maybe right, but I am not so sure. if he is, then you most definitely need to chelate because the mercury from the past has no doubt remained bound up and is continually poisoning you. Believe me the body can hang onto mercury like a limpid and keep you seriously poisoned.

Especially if you are already in a weakened state. I would continue taking the homeopathic stuff, get the second opinion and see what comes out of this.

You can tell the mainstream dentist that you are very ill and have been very sensitive to metals (mercury) and would like to know if there is ANY remaining amalgam leftover. Mainstream dentists understand that there are allergic people, so even if they are in some denial about amalgam toxicity, they usually admit to sensitive people having issues. And sometimes one will find what another has missed. Happens often.

I would get yourself onto high dose basic antioxidants without burning your wallet out. Vitamin C, vitamin E and selenum (any additional can help like zinc, milk thistle, magnesium etc). because if you are poisoned and you sure sound like you are, it uses up so much antioxidants/glutathione (do not take direct glutathione it can cause problems in mercury, you work by taking stuff to boost glutathione instead like antioxidants I mentioned). Undenatured whey powder can help, but take cautiously and watch for reactions if you do try it out. Things can stir mercury up and make you feel worse. Even antioxidants can do a bit of that because they help increase your body's ability to try and eliminate some toxins/ metals. They do not directly chelate metals, but indirectly encourage some toxic release by boosting the body's own antioxidant power/ glutathione.

However, it generally not enough unless the person is only mildly poisoned. Proper chelation is necessary. If you feel the homeopathy way is the way to go, if it helps you, that's great. If you want to try Andy Cutler's method? which I recommend HIGHLY, there are people here using it who can tell you what's happening with them and how best to start.

It is certainly possible you have no more oral mercury, but are poisoned up to your eyeballs from years of having it. There are people like us who get very sick from amalgams, because many people's body is not adept at excreting mercury too well and can tend to retain it and allow it to accummulate and remain tightly bound/stored in the tissues/organs and brain.

The body will definitely try to push out some of it, after the amalgams are completely removed and/or it is boosted and set off by chelation of some kind. But it needs a lot of help and needs something to grab onto this stuff and escort it out.

Candida diet with proteins and healthy fats does help. It can aid some natural detoxification and help healing and can give you further strength to handle the mercury. IN fact, some people on a candida forum who have mercury have admitted that they are improving from the diet alone....some are opting to do both diet and chelation (which I feel is the best way to go). I would not do one without the other.

yeah, i think you should try and get a second opinion somehow. unfort these dentists cannot be trusted.

have you done any chelation Cutler protocol?
