Hi Nina, I"m sorry to hear this. But it happens. Unfortunately there are some dentists who don't do a thorough job with removing amalgam and often don't like to drill too deep, so leave some behind. (I've had it myself).
I would definitely get to a biologic dentist and get that amalgam out of there. Make sure too that the porcelain you have does not have a metal base attached to it.
I have actually just had my plastic composites redone with cerec porcelain and am very happy with it. Solid porcelain, no metal base attached and is pretty biocompatible (but expensive). AT least it will last though and they don't tend to leach out their components, so are a good alternative to amalgam and composites.
Having amalgam left over, usually prevents the body from releasing mercury properly and I'm beginning to feel that even a small amount maybe enough to cause the body to retain mercury and cause problems when the person tries to use chelating agents.
I think I read somewhere that until the very last "scrap" of amalgam is removed, the body will usually not heal from this conditon. Though I know having less is still much better, there seems to be a machinism in the body that only detoxes mercury properly when there is NO more amalgam.
One of the best things I ever did was change my diet. I had no idea how much of a massive impact this has on anybody who is toxic. Dr Hal Huggins said that diets destroy more recoveries than anything else (mercury patients). which is why it is so essential. Many people with mercury toxicity or other illness suffer with candida (yeast overgrowth) which causes many of the same symptoms as mercury and can overload your gut and liver (which are needed to detox metals and other things).
They can cause overlapping symptoms with mercury, so much so you may not know which one is responsible for what. So I believe that a candida diet (sugar free, gluten free etc) is crucial to lower yeast levels in the body and support detox and help healing.
In fact, I believe this is the first and most important step. A dentist here in my country treats all his mercury patients with a proper sugar free diet first and will not even remove their amalgams unless they have been on this diet for a few weeks and improved their health and lowered yeast levels.
So that's how important it is. From there, once the body is a bit stronger, you can handle other things much easier (including exposure to mercury). So if you're not on a diet like that, I'd highly recommend it!
It is also wise to make sure you get enough healthy fat and proteins, particuarly in mercury poisoning. This means plenty of butter, lard, extra virgin olive oil, mercury free fish oil, meats, eggs, the whole deal. They help protect you, heal the brain, skin, hormones, etc. Very necessary.
Hal Huggins admitted that in all his years of treating mercury toxic patients, he has not yet been able to cure a vegetarian for reasons he does not understand. He advocates meat and eggs and fats too. NOT vegetable fats, but animal fats! The only vegetable fat that is ok is olive oil apparently. And eating plenty of vegetables (excluding high carb like potatoes and corn/peas/beans, they can feed candida). Particularly raw vegtables are great! Help clean you out, good for the liver etc. And raw nuts are good too (almonds/brazil) and acidophilus yoghurt (plain sugar free). NO caffeine, does something pretty bad in mercury toxic people. Best to consume herbal tea. And stay away from milk and cheese too.
This is what I pretty much survive on and find it is the only thing that really works. I could once have some limited gluten free grains and fruit, but at the moment I'm too ill and high in candida to consume those foods. So I have to be extra strict. The diet can be relaxed again later as the person improves and heals. Sugar is the worst culprit and should not be consumed. There is more than enough available energy and natural sugars in every other healthy food anyway, but not in the same unhealthy or excessive form.
I would also make sure you're getting plenty of antioxidants, which mercury uses up. Like vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc, and maybe milk thistle too etc and B complex, magnesium. These seem to be good to take during this toxicity, if you don't react adversely to any of them of course.

http://journeytoforever.org/farm_library/price/pricetoc.htmlI hope this is helpful to you. Aside from that, after amalgam removal, you might want to look at getting into some serious chelation. The best and safest protocol I can recommend, and one that more and more people are taking onboard is the Andrew Hall Cutler frequent dose chelation. Becoming increasingly popular!
