Now here's something I just love. Here is a calcium supplement with pizazz! Just take a look. Notice that the term "PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE" is a trademarked statement. This should raise a few flags. Not only that, but the phrase, "Special Refining Guarantees Purity" is also a trademarked statement. Interesting. Now let's take a look at those ingredients. This is certainly more than just a calcium supplement. Polyethylene glycol 3350"Polyethylene glycol 3350 is a laxative solution that increases the amount of water in the intestinal tract to stimulate bowel movements.""Do not use this medication if you are allergic to polyethylene glycol, or if you have a bowel obstruction or intestinal blockage. If you have any these conditions, you could have dangerous or life-threatening side effects from polyethylene glycol 3350. People with eating disorders (such as anorexia or bulimia) should not use this medication without the advice of a doctor.""Before taking polyethylene glycol 3350, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, kidney disease, nausea or vomiting with severe stomach pain, or if you have had a sudden change in bowel habits that has lasted 2 weeks or longer.""Polyethylene glycol 3350 should produce a bowel movement within 1 to 3 days of using the medication. Polyethylene glycol 3350 normally causes loose or even watery stools.""Do not use polyethylene glycol 3350 more than once per day. Call your doctor if you are still constipated or irregular after using this medication for 7 days in a row."Source: http://www.drugs.com/mtm/polyethylene-glycol-3350.htmlPolysorbate 80"Polysorbate 80 (commercially also known as TweenŽ 80, a trademark of Croda International Plc, previously Uniqema/ICI) [1] is a nonionic detergent and emulsifier derived from polyoxylated sorbitol and oleic acid, and is often used in foods. Polysorbate 80 is a viscous, water-soluble yellow liquid. The hydrophilic groups in this compound are polyethers also known as polyoxyethylene groups which are polymers of ethylene oxide. In the nomenclature of polysorbates, the numeral designation following polysorbate refers to the lipophilic group, in this case the oleic acid (see polysorbate for more detail).""Polysorbate 80 is often used in ice cream to prevent milk proteins from completely coating the fat droplets. This allows them to join together in chains and nets, to hold air in the mixture, and provide a firmer texture, holding its shape as the ice cream melts.""Polysorbate 80 is also used in commercial pickle products."Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polysorbate_80 Red 40 Lake"It is a fancy-pants name for food coloring. Found naturally in nothing. Mother Nature wouldn't touch this one. Upside Makes cough syrup, pills, and other foods and drinks red. Downside None that we know of, although it can cause allergic reactions. Look for it in drugs, hard candies, and gum."Source: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1608/is_2_20/ai_112358574Blue 1 Lake"The lakes consist of a substratum of alimina hydrate on which the dye is absorbed or precipitated. Having aluminium hydroxide as substrate, the lakes are insoluble in nearly all solvents."Source: http://www.neelikon.com/lakes.htmYellow 6 Lake"1-P-Sulfophenylazo-2-Hydroxynaphthalene-6-Sulfonate, Disodium Salt"Source: http://www.townsendletter.com/Nov2007/artfood1107.htm...and as with all calcium supplements, we should keep it out of the reach of children
