I just wondered how anyone else does on this stuff. I am having a love/hate relationship. I LOVE the energy it gives me, but I also feel a little spacey. I know Cutler advises against it, but I actually haven't had any side effects and have more energy.
Thanks....

Sounds like it's doing you good in one way, increasing glutathione, and aiding detox and healing, but also mobilising the metals and making you feel a little odd/spacey. The risk is moving mercury around too much and increasing the risk of more going into the brain, which mercury can do because it can cross the blood brain barrier pretty easily.
You have to decide whether you want to keep taking this stuff, if the good outweighs the bad etc. Some people do indeed do well on sulfur and andy admits this. But many can get very sick from it because of the mobilisation of metals....
If you're doing ok, then your body is obviously responding well, then should be fine to continue. Just be wary of certain side effects if they happen though. Mercury is an awful metal.

I have researched this stuff. I cannot handle sulphur foods, nor cysteine, so I must reduce the amount of glutathione that I take/eat. I think this explains things very well. http://onibasu.com/archives/am/2470.html<< I will try this again...I am wondering about the connection between glutathione and mercury toxicity. Can someone tell me if there is a connection. We have begun a supplement due to overgrowth of yeast and high citric levels, but I see glutathione mentioned now with respect to toxicity. Thanks! >>
There are a number of connections and it is complicated.
Glutathione is your body's natural antioxidant and mercury is an oxidation catalyst, so mercury uses up glutathione and leads to reduced levels.
Glutathione has a thiol group on it which mobilizes mercury and causes the mercury to be more toxic, so increasing glutathione levels makes whatever amount of mercury is present be MORE harmful.
Thus there is a tradeoff, and you want the RIGHT AMOUNT of glutathione for your body's needs. Not just more and more - you don't want too much any more than you want too little.
Some people's bodies respond to mercury by making more thiol containing things like glutathione and cysteine. For these people they need to REDUCE their intake of everything sulfury to keep levels down.
Other people's bodies respond to mercury by having low levels of glutathione etc. and they need to INCREASE their intake of sulfury stuff.
Mercury is excreted from the liver in bile while bound to glutathione. Since liver glutathione levels are tightly regulated this is not strongly influenced by eating more sulfury stuff - but the extent to which the existing mercury can be mobilized and made more toxic IS strongly influenced by how much sulfury stuff you eat.
Yeast is nourished by glutathione and other sulfury stuff. Sulfur food restriction reduces yeast levels.
High citrate may be due to many things. Was anything else like pyruvate, aconitate, etc. high? One thing that is often helpful is B complex 3 or 4 times a day. Iron supplements are often also helpful.

PS iron supplements in the grocery store usually have a ton of red #40 in them as well as lots of hydrogenated fats. Read the labels. Also, iron is constipating for some people.

Thanks Sunshne. I think that post by Andy explains why I can only take one pill of the stuff. My doc said take two, but I can't. Two makes me cry, get emotional, etc. and REAL spacey, while one is just right. Actually, I am thinking about taking 3/4 of the one and see how that works. But it does help with energy levels -- A LOT. I tested for very low sulphur and it seems I just cannot eat enough to get the energy levels up.

Hi Glancina. Those symptoms you're experiencing are common with ALA (spaciness etc.) and so one must conclude that the main effect of ALA is to raise glutathione that detoxifies body & kills pathogens. You can do it directly with glutathione too, provided that your body absorbs enough of it. I've had similar effects from ALA, I'm not using glutathione to detox, so there is really nothing wrong with what you're doing, just go slow enough. You likely have candida too.

Sunshine: That totally makes sense since there is ALA in the L-Glutathione formula. Thanks! You are a wealth of information! G

Sunshine: I should clarify that statement in that, the L-Glutathione that was given to me is a formula of that and ALA, Molybendum, NAC, B6, B12 and Vit. C. It's by "Professional Supplements". Thanks...G

Glancina. Well not so strange to experience ALA effects when there was ALA in that too. I hope you use it in a better way though, small doses and often, reduces side-effects. Perhaps you should also be better aware of what you're actually putting in mouth, it can be an unpleasant surprise if you take wrong things.
