Hi Everyone,
Thanks to Russ, sandra and others for answering my question on digestion issues.
Along with the digestion problems I am experiencing quite a bit of weight loss--15 lbs. in the last 5 months or so. This really scares me as I only weighed 130 lbs. to start with and I don't know how much more I can afford to lose. I am working on getting my digestion working better, but wonder if this is common and if anyone out there has gone through this.
I am now about 6 weeks post-removal.
I'm anxiously awaiting your replies.
Thanks so much.

Hi Chelan,

I weighed 127 lbs on the day of removal on Feb 8th. By the end of March I lost 15 lbs and was down to 112 lbs. I had no appetite and my digestion was not working properly. I also had problems with keeping any food in me and was battling yeast at the same time. I am now up to 119 lbs going on 6 months after removal. I still exibit many symptoms of mercury poisoning and on the days that I feel really bad I lose my appetite and I get afraid of loosing weight again. I think it's important to work on rebuilding our immune systems right now. Fruits and vegetables and vitamins should help. It will take time to normalize the weight again, it may even take up to one year. You can try blending a whole lemon with the skin with a spoonful of olive oil. Have this drink every day and you are supposed to gain 1.5 lbs per week and it's excellent for detoxing the liver. Hope this helps.

I weigh about 115 lbs. This is the most I have ever weighed. At one point I weighed only about 90 lbs.

I have always been very thin and had trouble keeping weight. I went to see the doctor about it 12 years ago, as I was concerned, but they said it's just in my genes to be thin.

I've put some weight on the last 5 years, I think it might be related to my female problems that have got worse, or maybe insulin problem.

Demi,
Thanks for your note on weight loss. Are you able to eat well and does your digestive system work well? I am 5 foot 5 inches and right now I weigh 115 which is what I weighed 24 years ago when I got married. My anniversary is next week---maybe I'll try on my wedding dress !! Should fit nicely ! Ha!
Anyway, thanks again, hope to hear from you again.

Nina,
Thanks so much for taking time to answer my weight loss question. I really find this one of the most frightening things I've had to deal with yet in this battle with mercury. When your body doesn't absorb your food, what do you do? I have been eating well although I have noticed a lessening of my appetite the last little while. I don't seem to find too many things that I want to eat or that I think are good for me to eat. I have cut sugar and most refined carbs. Am pretty much on a vegetarian diet although with a little chicken.
How is your digestive system? Do you absorb your food?
I read your letter to your dentist-- great job! Have you recieved any reply yet? I was thinking of doing something similar just in hopes of "educating" my dentist a little.
Thanks for the suggestion of lemon & olive oil . I may try that. Did it work for you?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Chelan

I'm 5ft 4, so not a lot of difference between us

I'm a vegetarian, but I don't think that has affected my weight. A couple of friends of mine are vegetarian and they aren't thin, and I was always very thin before I became vegetarian.

People always used to say how thin I was - when I weighed about 90-100 lbs - and asked if I had eating disorder. I don't have eating disorder. Strange thing is, I eat less now than I did then, but I am weightier.

I haven't noticed any particular digestion problems, except that I'm not regular (a couple of time I hadsmall amount of blood come out). Some days I will go 2 times, and other times not for three days.

I can't eat much fruit because it gives me rhinitis and foods like onion or peppers repeat on me for hours afterwards.

I've never thought any of this could be mercury related, so it's all very new to me. I do come from a "thin" family, but we all have fillings aswell, and my mother is very thin.

The weight that I've gained has gone straight to my abdomen so I think it might be because I'm not toned or something.

I can't say I have eaten particularly healthily over the years, although being a vegetarian has probably helped because a lot of the pre-made products are healthier than meat equivalent. I've eaten lots of fries and pizzas, cookies, chocolate, all things that should have made me fatter than I am.

If I don't eat every 3-4 hours then I get like hyperglycemia, so I try to snack regularly. I get real bad hunger cravings if I skip a meal. I don't generally eat breakfast now because I feel sickish in the morning, but I used to eat cereal before school and college, then lunch, then dinner. At college I would have breakfast, then lunch and something for dinner and then supper - but I admit I did skip meals sometimes if I had to cram study in or money was low etc.

I would generally eat more than my friends, but not put on the weight. I lose weight much easier than I gain it.

and btw, I still fit into the evening dress I had at 17, lol Some of my older clothes are too small, though, as I've gone up a dress size from 8-10 to 10-12 (which I think in USA is 6-8 to 8-10.)

Hi everyone,

I did a little reading in Dr. Cutler's book Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis & Treatment, and found the following:

Quote
Subclinical adrenal hypofunction [low or inadequate functioning] with symptoms suggestive of Addison's disease is common. These consist of weakness, fatigue, depression, weight loss, hypoglycemia, anxiety and low blood pressure."
What's really amazing is that except for the weight loss (I actually gained probably 25-30 pounds over a 1-2 year period and I had always weighed about 105-110), I had every one of these problems.

Cutler's book also states that in such individuals, it is likely that cortisol levels are too low, and "low cortisol for a long time leads to being quite thin and being unable to gain weight."

I know my adrenal glands are working much, much better now, thanks to getting the mercury out. Of all the symptoms listed above, I really only still have low pressure.

Nevertheless, I'm going to start taking a product called Adrenal Support. I'm curious to see what kind of difference it makes in me. I'm sure it would probably do a lot more for someone who still had their fillings in, but I'm going to try it anyway. I still have mercury in my tissues and am slowly detoxing, so I'll see how it works for about a month or two.

I've also done some research and found that both Licorice Root (which also comes in a liquid extract in water & alcohol so it can be used by vegetarians) and Black Currant Oil enhance cortisol levels. Licorice root is one of the main ingredients in Adrenal Support.

Perhaps Licorice Root and/or Black Currant Oil would help those of you who are having adrenal hypofunction and low cortisol levels.

By the way, I found that when I still had the amalgams in, I could take GTF Chromium usually twice a day and it really helped reduced by low blood sugar attacks. You don't want chromium picolinate, because it can cause heart palpitations. GTF stands for glucose tolerance factor. It comes in tablets that apppear to be vegetarian-friendly. I usually took 1-2 tablets at least once a day, depending on how I was eating. Of course, GTF Chromium reduced the constant sugar cravings I had because it helped balance my sugar levels.

Ultimately, though, getting the mercury out was the real cure. Now that my fillings have been replaced, I hardly ever have low blood sugar attacks. I've actually gone until 8 or 9pm many times before I've had anything to eat and I'm okay. I even fasted once for 7 days straight with just water and unsweetened iced tea and I was fine. I could have never done that when I still had the mercury in my mouth.

Chelan,

There's a product called Cellular Build that may be beneficial for you and others who have digestive problems due to prolonged mercury poisoning. Cellular Build contains dietary nucleotides (the building blocks of DNA and RNA) and immune-enhancing and intestinal tract-supporting nutrients (astagalus and fructooligosaccharides), plus milk thistle for liver support. Nucelotides are especially important in areas of the body where rapid cell division occurs, such as in the intestinal system, where the lining of the gastrointestinal tract renews itself about once a week. Here, Cellular Build may enhance digestion, improve the uptake of nutrients, promote the growth of beneficial flora, support enzyme activity, and in general, support the intestinal system.

Quote
Dietary nucleotides are required for the maintenance and repair of the gastrointestinal mucosa (GI tract). The mucosal epithelium (the internal tissue surface) of the GI tract plays an important role in the digestion and absorption of nutrients, as well as in the functioning of gut-associated lymphoid tissue, which is responsible for localized immunity to pathogens (disease-causing organisms) such as bacteria, viruses and parasites.

Laura,
Thank you so much for your response. I have been really scared about this and I am so glad to have someone to talk to about it.
I am using a product called RevitalX put out by Natural
Factors (a Canadian company) that is designed to rebuild the intestinal tract as well as support the stomach and colon. It has something called GoldPeptides in it. Is this anything like the nucleotides you referred to in the other product?
BTW, I called you Friday about weight loss--using my real name of course--Carol . I am anxiously awaiting my Algin and Thyroid support. Do you think I am working on too many things at once? Should I concentrate on this digestion / weight issue before thyroid or adrenals and active detox? I know they are all interrelated and so I just don't know what to do to start getting things under control. Help!
I have read Cutler's advice on the cortisol levels. I don't know if that's my problem, but I seem to fit the description. BTW, this weight loss and digestion stuff only began in the last few months. I lost about 10 lbs. before removals and now have lost another 5. The constipation began last October--a month after I had 2 fillings replaced--1 with amalgam. Actually that's what triggered my search and how I came to discover my toxicity.
Anyway, enough rambling. I sure would appreciate your suggestions on how to proceed. Sometimes it's so scary and confusing!
Very gratefully
Chelan (Carol)

Hi Chelan,

It looks like you Demi and I are about the same height and weight..

I think my digestive system has improved somewhat, although I still have some disturbances from time to time. I used to take digestive enzymes for a while but have stopped that. I think I was just confused on what supplements to take and what not to take. So I am pretty much taking Algin and acidophilus for digestive/intestinal support although I may need more. How does one know if you are absorbing nutrients from foods?

Anyways, I have been drinking the olive oil drink but not on a regular basis. Just got a blender now so I'm about to start again every day. Can't promise that you will gain weight from it but it's worth a shot..

As far as the dentist, did not get a reply yet.. I will of course keep everyone on the forum posted if they do. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say. Probably not much if anything at all..

And finally, Laura, I didn't catch the list of ingredients on Cellular product when I clicked on your link. Do you know what it contains?

Is it better to take a multi vitamin for immune system or to take specific vitamins like vitamin c and selenium/vitamin e? I'm a bit confused whether to switch to a multi vitamin or stay on individual supplements.

Hi Nina,

Cellular Build contains:

Dietary nucleotides (the building blocks of DNA and RNA);
Astragalus and fructooligosaccharides (immune-enhancing and intestinal tract-supporting nutrients); and
Milk thistle for liver support

As far as multi-vitamins go...I recommend taking a good, full-spectrum multiple vitamin/mineral, and then take extra vitamin C and vitamin E with selenium.

I personally switch back and forth between Super Supplemental and the new liquid VitaWave. Both are amazing as far as the amount of energy you get from them. In fact, you can feel the liquid VitaWave start working in about 10 minutes! Plus, VitaWave also includes amino acids, immune supporting herbs, adaptogens and antioxidants. It's really an amazing product. (Just make sure you have enough food in your stomach regardless of which one you take.)

Then, on top of these, I typically take another 3,000-4,000mg of Citrus Bioflavonoids and 1-2 capsules of Vitamin E Complete with Selenium. I've tried other brands of vitamin C and never got the results I do from Citrus Bioflavonoids.

The reason I like the Vitamin E Complete is because it is...complete. Most people don't know that:

Quote
"Vitamin E is actually not a single entity, but rather a lipid (fat) soluble micronutrient containing 8 active, naturally occurring plant constituents?4 tocopherols (alpha, beta, delta, gamma) and 4 tocotrienols (alpha, beta, delta, gamma). Collectively, these compounds are known as vitamin E. Researchers have determined that the biologic functions of tocopherols and tocotrienols appear unrelated, thus indicating a need for both."

I've gone through 3 winters now, having moved to western New York from Florida. We get lots of snow here and very cold temperatures, and I haven't been sick yet!

These supplements really work.

Thanks for the list of ingredients Laura,
it was already there in your previous post, but I must have missed it! Thanks for your comment about multi vitamins. I do have a general multi vitamin I can take from vitamin world that is iron free. I know you recommend Supper Supplemental. It sounds good, I will try to find something similar in the country I am in, if not then order from you guys as I like Nature's Sunshine supplements.

This is the multi vitamin that I have at home and that I wanted to start taking. Do you think all the vitamins/minerals in this supplement are ok for mercury toxic individuals? Thanks

I bought some vit E today, 400iu. Is that too much? It's the lowest dose I could find that was suitable i.e. no aspartame, etc

Cutler recommends 400 to 1000 IU of vitamin E per day.

Amalgam Illness, pg 67

Hope this helps.

Thanks I was a bit worried as last night when I was in bed and got up for the bathroom, there were like colour dots before my eyes. It was kind of weird. Everything was pretty clear, but like blue and red blobs. I thought maybe I had too much, but it could have been something else.

A few years ago, Laura and I used to frequent the Carrabba's restaurant in Port Richey, Florida. We ended up giving some Super Supplemental to a server who got into a conversation about health with us.

The server eventually gave the manager of the restaurant some to try. He liked it so much, he immediately began suggesting that all the servers should be on SS.

Needless to say, after a couple months, probably about half of the servers in the restaurant were on it and they all loved it. The whole experience was so funny, especially how fanatical the manager got about SS, but I don't blame him. I truly love it too; it's outstanding.
