I stopped climbing ladders at age 32 or so. My knees were giving out from the leaning against them all day. I used to do lots of mural work. Last one I did, a huge ceiling in a New York city hotel, climbing up and down a scaffold all day carrying stuff, laying on my back up there... that was it for me.
Filthy work anyway. I don't really miss it but I did enjoy staying at the hotel and the asian boys in slippers bringing me bottles of Pellegrino water and egads of fancy free room service food. The money really wasn't all that hot considering the pain and strain of it all, the stress on the limbs, the poisons in the paints and stuff. Better off without it. I did that work for about 10 years, I was pretty burned out.
Get a cushy job as an estimator with a local painting company, you'll be happier.
I lost my grandad at your age too, mid-30's... I miss him everyday still. he was one of the best most fundown to earth people I ever had the privilege to know.
Chiropractor is good advice. Praying for you and yours.
