I was just wondering how many of you have had your amalgams fall out in your mouth? Not because of tooth loss or removal, but just having them come out in food or for some other reason.

I repeatedly had silver fillings come out in my mouth, either in chewing gum or food, etc between the ages of about 5-12. I subsequently went to a different dentist, who said my old dentist's work looked "shoddy" and said I should not get amalgams anymore. Last time I went to her, she pressured me to let her use silver fillings, saying they "stayed in better". WTF?! In my experience, having white fillings or just sealants worked better and lasted longer.

Anyway, I was just curious as to the implications of chomping down on an amalgam that's fallen out. Obviously, it doesn't sound like a good thing, but have any of you personally experienced it? Does it sound like it could have the potential for causing toxicity?

hi tracii: welcome to the forum , a few years ago I had one filling that had cracked and a good size piece of it came out ,but was able to remove it before I swallowed it , back then I was unaware of the amalgam issue , and didn't give it a second thought and had then replace it with more amalgam . according to my mercury free dentist , he told me the amalgam fillings do not form a strong bond to the teeth ,and can fallout much easier than composite fillings ,so coposites are much better for you in health wise and as a dental material

I have a few left, I wish they would fall out.

I could fill them back in with bubble gum and be healthier.

Sosick, why don't you remove all your amalgams?

Hi Tracii
I did have a couple of fillings that had fallen out over the years. It was little ones on the side and never had them replaced. My first experience with the dentist was when amalgams were placed and I was really sick after that. Did not know it was mercury just thought that is how a dentist made you feel and never wanted to take that bullet again. My sister has also lost a couple of fillings also.
Take care

Because my health has been rather excellent for most of my life up until the dental incidents of last winter. I had some pulled. I fear two things... the plastic resins they use these days seem to cause me more issues than the amalgam... and the dentists around here don't really impress me very much. I lost one tooth very unnecessarily that route.

Though I like the one tha pulled the last two teeth. My molars with the remaining amalgam are so messed up after all these years, cracks etc, I really don''t see the point of taking the plastic resin risk. I'd only be trading for petro chems, uranium and possibly aluminum anyway. I have long standing issues with petro chemicals, the resins especially.

I seem to have struck a balance where I'm at.

Really, the liver cleanse seems to cover more bases.

And I love eating the cilantro pesto anyway... with the few molars I've got left... I'd hate to lose them anytime soon so I think I will leave well enough alone for now.

well enough, I guess that is it in a nutshell.

Yes I believe it does have the potential for toxicity. They say it's no problem because it's "bound up" but if this was so, why did I get so poisoned after swallowing some amalgam grains during amalgam removal? And why do they put a mouth guard on or use suction in an attempt to protect patients from swallowing particles during removal if it really wasn't a risk?

I heard that a girl died after swallowing her amalgam filling. I hate to even mention that on here, and apologise but I feel it's serious. It was either Hal Huggins who said this or someone else in this area. how true it is, I am unsure.

The girl may have been very young, and obviously this is very rare, but the potential for toxicity is obviously there and I know people who have swallowed bit of fillings that has come out (My Mother included)and didn't "seem" to notice much, but my Mother never feels well anyway.

The dentist placing yours was obviously very bad at the job and this should NOT have happened to you. Wow! You could well have gotten poisoned by this happening to you. I sure did when I swallowed only a few grains.

I had to use proper chelation to improve from that, I couldn't do it just by doing nothing. I needed something to pull it out of me.

I cracked one a couple years ago... it just sort of spilt in half, taking half the tooth with it of course...

anyway, I had slight muscle weakness in my bicep on the same side all year after that I tried everything, pumping iron at the gym, eating more protein, to no avail...

..had that one pulled... that is actually the tooth they tried to do a crown on that cost me so much more trouble, resins and crappy dental procedure stuff...

anyway everything cleared up completey real nice within several weeks of it being gone. I was already well into chelating by then so a lot of my system metals were already gone though.

A cracked tooth with an amalgam filling or a tooth with an amalgam filling that falls out, will ALWAYS expose you to mercury and its toxicity. I had a porcelain crown with a silver/mercury cap that I let go unfixed for 2 years, this along with other exposure of 9 teeth made me very ill. Mercury is toxic no matter the amount. Any amount is not good.

I don't mean to sound negative, but you have at least a two year odessy here to travel to get well. I don't know where you are located, but it would be good idea to start getting informaed on amalgam removal (the process and cost), get with an MD/ND that specializations in heavy metal detoxification and the sort and get started.

All those symptoms you listed are the eptiomy of being mercury poisoned. Your shots and experiences with amalgams seal the deal.

If you live in Southern California I can recommend biological dentists and a center for advanced medicine that speicialize in treating folks with these issues and similiar ones.

yep, figure 1-2 years if you start today.

and the first few months are real hell.

You'll need an integrative med doctor (or specialist) for detox, general practioners are usually clueless. Don't waste your time and money with one, or risk your health.

Wowwy, guys! While bleak, your advice is very helpful. I've always had the thought of mercury/heavy metal toxicity in the back of my mind, but have read so many conflicting things about it--it's real and is the hidden cause of many diseases vs. it's a scam used to scare people and take their money for bogus treatments--that I put it out of my mind. I did have one good dentist who said not to get silver fillings again, but then the one who put them in in the first place said there was nothing dangerous about them (despite the fact that her work was called questioned by my other dentists and that the things repeatedly fell out in my mouth).

I do fear having chelation done. My grandpa's brother, while dying of Lou Gehrig's disease, had all his fillings removed and had chelation done and became very, very sick. They blamed his disease on mercury in the well water he drank and on his amalgams. He was a very ODD man, always jittery and somewhat "mad hatterish" if you will. It's that side of the family that carries all the autistic traits in my family as well, which makes me wonder if we don't have a sensitivity to mercury and/or an inability to excrete it as well as others.

Like I mentioned before, the most helpful thing I've done so far has been taking the liquid zeolites, which have a chelating/immune-normalizing effect. I have to space out the times I take them by a couple of months, because they make me feel so weird and even sick while I'm on them. They DO alter my sleep patterns, helping me get a good night's rest and stay awake all day--something I haven't done since I was about 11--but that effect fades when I quit taking them. My eyesight always goes a bit haywire, too, like things appearing sharper and in better focus, which also fades upon stopping the zeolites.

Anyway, I just moved to Las Vegas from Oklahoma, so if anyone knows of a good doctor/chiropractor/etc. that can maybe help me, that'd be awesome. Of course, I'll continue searching for these things myself, but help is always good <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I don't have insurance, though, which will undoubtedly slow down the process...I can't even afford to go to a regular doctor or dentist right now, so...we'll see. In the meantime, I plan to do everything in my OWN power to get my health back--healing my gut, taking nutritional supplements, detoxing, killing the yeasts, etc. etc. I'm just thankful to god that I don't have amalgams in my mouth currently and that I know enough not to get unnecessary vaccinations again. Like I said, all the serious fatigue, messed up sleeping patterns, OCD-like thoughts, depression, and introversion didn't start until around the time I started getting the flu shot yearly and had several amalgams fall out in a row. Whether that's the sole cause of my problems I don't know, but I'm starting to think it definitely has something to do with it, thanks to the people on this forum.

Thanks for your advice!

That’s cool Tracii, investigate and take your time. It is tricky especially when so many parts of our bodies are screwed up, to know what to do first. Sorting out a root cause makes good good sense.

I just want to go back to the first reply you received from me, to yr first post, and repeat it again, because I think its important;

Quote

…….don’t rush out and start heavy metal detoxing. Do NOT take lots of different herbs, pills and whatnot that you might hear around and especially not from any bloody doctors. (that incluses healers, NP or whoever) . Mercury is a tricky business and it needs to be tackled correctly. The only person that can do that is you. You cannot rely on anyone but yourself and the sooner that is understood the quicker you can start moving forwards.

So many things that work for some people, don’t work for others. It is very difficult to know which, so go slow, learn and educate first. I can tell you from experience that when you find one that does not agree, that it really hurts like funking hell. Everyone here will agree with that.

If u do want to pursue mercury as a root cause, which everyone here thinks you should, and to take measures to detox the mercury, then best thing you can do is read than Andy Cutler’s book, “amalgam illness”

There is a self diagnoses part in that book and you will be able to tell pretty well if you do or if you don’t have a mercury problem. So you don’t need a doctor to tell you if u mercury poisoned, you need $35 bucks to buy the book.

You will then know 99pct more about mercury than all the regular doctors in the whole world.

Take care
