I was just wondering how many of you have had your amalgams fall out in your mouth? Not because of tooth loss or removal, but just having them come out in food or for some other reason.
I repeatedly had silver fillings come out in my mouth, either in chewing gum or food, etc between the ages of about 5-12. I subsequently went to a different dentist, who said my old dentist's work looked "shoddy" and said I should not get amalgams anymore. Last time I went to her, she pressured me to let her use silver fillings, saying they "stayed in better". WTF?! In my experience, having white fillings or just sealants worked better and lasted longer.
Anyway, I was just curious as to the implications of chomping down on an amalgam that's fallen out. Obviously, it doesn't sound like a good thing, but have any of you personally experienced it? Does it sound like it could have the potential for causing toxicity?
