Since i started getting my fillings replaced in early september ive been having crazy mood problems and disturbing thoughts. I would say that the most bothersome are probably the constant physical anxiety and feelings of impending doom. About every 2 weeks this gets really bad and lasts for a week or so. I try to stay as calm as possible but it eventually gets to me and i break down. The anxiety and mood stuff usually comes with a lack of appetite and its hard for me to keep weight on.

Does anyone have any reccomendations to help me? I feel like i need something to help stablize my moods and at least help the dreadful anxiety. The lasy thing i want to do is go on an anti-depressant but i think it may be my only option.

Thanks for any help.

Eat lots of fresh leafy greens. Like salad, but leave the tomatoes out, put a tad of fresh minced (organic) garlic and onion in there, cucumbers are good, carrots are good, use olive oil and lemon juice (fresh spueezed) and maybe some organic apple cider vinegar for your dressing. Stay away from canned (metal cans) greens like spinach, fresh is ok, bottled is ok. Do not drink coffee. Drink plenty of water. Do not eat any canned or bottled tomato products. Local small farm tomatoes may be ok.

Take vitamin C, asorbic acid type, about 1000 mgs per day.. Sit in the sun, a warm sunny window is fine. Take cod liver oil or fish oil, make sure it is certified mercury free. Eat a tablespoon or so of virgin coconut oil every day for a while too.

If you can afford it, take a 2 week vacation on a nice sunny beach somewhere and spend your time soaking up the sun soaking in the salt water, and breathing the fresh ocean air.

Go easy on physical exercise but do something every day that works up a slight sweat if you can... rake leaves or something for 30 minutes, then shower immediately after. shower every day, maybe twice a day in hot soapy water, use a wash cloth and rub yourself hard but not raw. Always wash your sweaty clothes in hot soapy water too, don't wear them again till they're clean.

Stay away from anti-depressants. they may help for the short term but make you much worse in the long term. take some borage oil everyday instead.

Pray.

Hi JoeC, for me it was the no sugar and no gluten and limiting or eliminating high carbs that helped. I know you are already doing that. But I made sure I was having enough protein (meats and eggs) plus fats.

It seems that these things provide some kind of protection/buffer and Hal Huggins in his book said that he has not yet been able to cure a vegetarian for reasons he does not yet understand. He recommends meat and butter for mercury toxic people, as well as the avoidance of the obvious.

Though vegetables are very healthy and I eat piles of them (raw, stir fried etc), the addition of the meats/eggs/fats I believe has aided healing and eventually gave me a sense of more "calm", that plus trying to avoid caffeine.

I also eat plain acidophilus yoghurt with flaxseed oil mixed in, which is another healthy essential oil. Though some people may not tolerate flaxseed oil.

Magnesium, calcium, zinc, B complex, fish oil (mercury free), maybe of help in this area because of the nerves/brain. I wish I could suggest more, but I dont think there is much one can do because it's about healing and providing the body and brain with what they need. Above and beyond that? You may find a certain herbal remedy to help you.

I really hope you do not need to resort to artificial help like antidepressants/antianxiety. I would see if a naturopath or someone at a healthfood shop with experience can find you a remedy there to aid you.

I second Bex and SS on their advice. I was in your position 2 or 3 years ago and made it through with natural supplements and exercise. No coffee. Good diet with good fats. You will read it all on this forum.

You too with the lack of appetite? Yes, I went through it, dropped about 30 lbs. I was lifting weights, and was getting bulky at 210 or so - which was when I was hypothyroid, but before I got sickly toxic. Dropped down quickly, which was OK for me as I did not need to weigh that heavy. I believe your instinct will turn off your appetite if that is of benefit, and would not worry unless you are seriously underweight. Many days I did not eat much at all. You know that calorie restriction extends life in animals?

I agree diet is most important. Supplements that helped me were L-glutamine and 5 htp. I take them every day without fail or I will turn into a blithering idiot. Not a pretty site. LOL . I also started taking calcium and magnesium and I believe that has helped as well. I take a really good probiotic as well as flax and fish oil. Maybe something like that could help you. I would try anything first to stay off the anti-depressants. I also have a set routine and certain routes I take to go to work. If I get off course it puts extra stress on me and throughs me for a loop. Remove as many stressors as you can. That has helped me alot.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I really appreciate the info. The only thing is that i already do what each one of you reccomends. I have been on a very strict diet for ver a year now and have not slipped up at all. I take daily supplments, vitamins and minerals. I also take dialy essential oils. My mood has been normal for the most part up until i started removing my fillings. My dr gave me some 5-htp and i guess it helps a little but when i have the constant anxiety/tension feeling in my body nothing really seems to help. Im still trying to figure everything out but im pretty sure these mood issues are due to removing the amalgams. Believe me, the last thing i want to do is go on an antidpepressant but i feel like im losing my mind sometimes. I might try some other herbal remedies but the diet and vitamins alone do not help me with the mood/anxiety stuff. I beleive that the mercury has possibly messed with my neurotransmitters and i probably need to take something. Does anyone have any herbal remeides that act like an antidpressant?

Thanks again,
Joe

Hi JoeC, sorry that you've had to read through what you're already doing! But definitely be warned about a vegan or vegetarian diet if you're trying to cure mercury, why should meat make any difference? I dont know.

I think the state you're in, even with your efforts is possibly only going to improve with a safe chelation protocol, when you are able to do one.

There is a herbal antidepressant called "St John's Wart", can be rather effective apparently.

I am just sorry that you are suffering this without having any ability to really control it. It is horrible, I know because I've had this myself. It is like a feeling of almost continual fear/panic and strange thoughts and heart racing.

Diet helped yes, without it I was even more pscyho. But chelation is needed. Do you feel your replacement materials maybe at all a problem? Or does this feel like it's the mercury to you?

Thanks Bex,

I actually still eat meat but its mostly chicken and fish. I am wanting to go on a raw vegan diet and am slowloy incorporating more and more raw foods. Raw diets are actually very beneficial and eating raw alone can cure illnesses. As you know i have been chronically ill for 3 yrs and im still trying to put all of the pieces together.

I actually have been reading more and more about St. Johns wort. I think if anything else im going to give it a try. I want to find out more about it before i make a decision.

To answer your question about the filling replacemsnt...Im not reallt sure. i think its the mercury but who knows. My dr filled them with either porcelian or a white composite. I will ask him next visit.

Thanks again

You're welcome. If you feel the vegan diet will help, all power to you! You should ditch fish, no mercury toxic person should ever touch fish if they want to get well. It's unfortunate, but I don't know of any fish that is completely mercury free. I heard of one brand of pink salmon, but not certain which one it was. It's on the net though. Even then I'm wary.

I'm worried about fish in my own country (New zealand) because we used to be known as clean and green, but mercury is now becoming a problem here too and fish is not all safe here either.

One doctor in US (expert in mercury toxicity) Paula Bickle tell her mercury patients that they must stop eating ALL fish with no exceptions. Otherwise you could be wasting your time. There is no point in trying to eliminate mercury, whilst taking it in from some other source at the sametime. Some people have actually become mercury toxic just from eating fish alone (even without any amalgams).

I know It's not easy because it makes diet limited and there are good things in fish (omega 3), but you can get that from a fish oil supplement (mercury free brand like blue ice). Cod liver oil is especially good apparently. Flaxseed oil contains omega 3 as well, without the mercury. Best to get organic brand.

I hope if you do try St John's Wart, that it might help you a little, or take the edge of some of this whilst you find ways to heal at the sametime.

Sorry to throw all this at you, Im sure you feel overwhelmed as it is.

St. John's Wort is great. Buy the standardized 0.3% hypericin 300 mg capsules. I take it at night since it makes me drowsy. Start with one capsule at night then perhaps take two a night if you feel you need it. It takes some people a week or two before they feel its effect. Don't take St. John's Wort if you are taking a prescription antidepressant. Consult your physician before taking St. John's Wort if you are taking other prescription drugs. The main side effect of St. John's Wort is sensitivity to sunlight. It will make you sunburn easier, and make your eyes more sensitive to irritation from sunlight. Wearing sunglasses in the bright sun is recommended.

Joe,
Purely from the anxiety perspective, not taking into account the mercury or candida aspect I have some advice for you. Its things Ive found out through trial and error myself over the last couple years...

Magnesium supplementation. Either magnesium glycinate or magnesium taurate (whatever you do, do not buy mag. oxide which is most common) Start with 400mg a day and give it a few days.

If you drink milk, make sure you are getting some mag. at the same time. Ideallly get your calcium from supplement or other foods.

B1 and B6 in moderation. Too much can make you have more energy and therefore mimic anxiety.

Meditation. John Kabbat-Zinn has a awesome book called Full Catastrophe Living and a supplementary meditation cd that is really reall good.

Running or other aerobic exercise.

Also get your cortisol levels checked. Get yourself checked out for Mitral Valve Prolapse, and get the T3 and T4 thyroid levels checked. The standard thyroid test done through the blood chemistry panel is not reliable.

Theres more, but these are the basics.

Yes, drop the fish. Not ideal for mercury people.

I eat lamb instead. Lamb is generally pasture fed, unlike cattle. I have no trouble digesting lamb. Beef; doesn’t matter if it organic or not, beef just sits in my stomach like a lead balloon.

I have lamb steak for tonight, great big thick juicy organic lamb steak. Wow I am famished right now. I have been on liquid dinner and breakfast last night and today. Veg juice and a little home made soup. Whenever my digestion starts struggling I got liquid straight away. Along with ACV works everytime. Gives my digestion a break just exactly when it needs one

hi joec: chances are if the 5htp is not helping you ,than ssri antidepressants will not help out as 5htp and st johns wort are very mild ssri type herbs ,also anti depressants are very powerful and may make things worse for you . is there a certain time of day when you feel the worst?

"Yes, drop the fish. Not ideal for mercury people. "

Don't lump all fish together. Fish varies GREATLY in it mercury content. Avoid the high mercury fish, and eat moderate amounts of the high omega 3 low mercury fish such as salmon, sardines, and herring.

Thanks for the responses. I really appreciate the advice. The only fish i eat is wild caught form the health food store. As far as the other stuff goes, i take plenty of supplents as well as magnesium. The only thing i can think is that the mercury got stirred up and has effected my neurotransmitters. I am not really sure. I am prob gona try the st johns wort and see how that goes. Thanks again.

I disagree about completely excluding fish. Sardines, salmon, and herring are good sources of omega 3 fats and are quite low in mercury. They are important. One should eat them in moderation though.

E-EPA + E-DHA fish oil capsules should be good. These oils are even purified (the E- stands for the ethyl group added in the vacuum distillation), so there should be only very small amounts toxins in them, and they are superior to the EPA and DHA forms.

Even Cutler says that "Fish mercury is a small concern", (AI, p.21), and that "Government regulators have focused on seafood instead of real hazards like dental amalgam". He cautions about fish like tuna, swordfish, shellfish, shark, but my feeling is that when you are toxicly sick, eat fish either not at all, or very sparingly. When you are more detoxed, I think it is OK to eat some fish, and when I do, I take Algin before the meal.

I love seafood, so I experimented with this and monitored how I felt before and after eating seafood, and never felt like eating seafood made me sicker. Now, that said, when I was really bad, I eliminated it completely because why add any extra to an already poisoned body?

This is just my opinion. And though I think Cutler is brilliant, I don't think he or anyone knows everything - in fact, while I think his method of chelation is safest, I think one should monitor what is happening in his/her blood and hair while doing this to make sure you aren't damaging something. Sometimes a break may be needed - those suffering adrenal problems may not handle chelation well.

I have read accounts of mercury poisoning back in the 1920s where folks recovered within a year or two just by eliminating source and following good diet.

St johns wort caused me anxety and sleeplessness...but it helped my mood but made me more anxious especially socially. I dont know why.

Is magnesium citrate good or sjhould i try Taurate instead? I been taking Citrate. B vitamins make me worse too.

except im taking GABA + B6 and Niacinamide which helps.

Have you tested for pyrrolia? urine kryptolites?

I have so much inner tension too and dont know if to take a anti depressant type herb or relaxant as I get moody too.

hi joec : I have been on 5 different type of anti-depressants in the past and DO NOT recomend them , they are evil in a bottle and can mess you up for a long time , have you tried any type of adaptagenic herbs , like ginseng or holy basil these type of herbs are good for axiety and minor depression they work by normalizing the bodies hormones and keep them in balance , if you start taking them just remember to take them for 3 weeks on and 1 week off , this is to keep the herbs effectivness for a long time

Magnesium citrate is a good source of magnesium. If you were anxious while taking St. John's Wort, then perhaps you were taking too much? I take one or two 300mg standardized 0.3% hypericin capsules each night. Some people take as much as 6 or 8 of these capsules a day. Try taking a smaller dosage of St. John's Wort.
