My dentist said I could eat a thousand cans of tuna and still be in safe limit of mercury and amalgams are safer than eater Tuna. If it was bad t would of been banned and their would be more awareness and scientif evidence. No one can come up with scientific evidence. He said I wasted so much money removing my amalgams and was played a fool. Im so depressed.

Who has had health issues improve after removing amalgam fillings?
I would like to hear from people who have had amalgam fillings removed, and had any health issues clear up after that? What health issues were they?
I am aware of the debate about whether or not amalgams are good or bad, so don't need to hear any more on this.
I have just been told by my doctors that I have mercury toxicity, which could explain some of the health problems I have been having.

I had a number of blood tests, from which they concluded mercury toxicity.

my father-in-law went for cancer treatment in Switzerland because there was nothing the doctors could do here, all of the treatments failed. He went to Switzerland as a last resort. He spent thousands of dollars on alternative health treatments, including getting his amalgam fillings removed. They sent him back home a week early.

He died less than a month later.

That's what happens when you expect miracle cures from people who are more than willing to rip you off because you don't want to die. The cost of replacing the fillings is Switzerland was over $7000.00. It would have cost MUCH less back home and his dental benefits would have covered it.

Be careful, there are lots of scams that will empty your wallet in no time.

I heard that you are exposed to more mercury just by having them all drilled out and removed. Wearing a dental dam during this procedure will decrease your exposure to the mercury in amalgam fillings if you plan to remove them all.

I think you should listen to your doctors and not some quack who wants to rip you off.

It has already been banned in some areas/countries (e.g. Sweden) and by law in some areas, they now have to post a warning notice on the mercury contained in amalgams (e.g. birth defects). So not sure what you're dentist is talking about, but many times they are ignorant themselves and wish to remain so, OR they are aware and hope to heck you're not.

I've heard of people with no amalgams at all becoming highly mercury toxic by eating fish food like tuna. So your dentist is way off the mark. Not everybody is going to become poisoned with mercury, even those who work with it because some people have a higher tolerance, have a better system for elimination etc.

Other people who get poisoned by it, are ones that tend to hang onto the metals/toxins (like myself) and do not excrete it, but rather build it up in the tissues over years and become so ill by it, that some even commit suicide (I could have been one of them).

I know people with false teeth and those with amalgams and those with false teeth seem the far healthier and stronger and I wonder is this coincidence?

I would never feel depressed about removing another source of mercury poison from your body, because the body can only handle so much and it comes down to overall toxic exposure, immune status etc. You are doing yourself a favor by removing this neurotoxin from your teeth.

Amalgams are often a much worse exposure because it is 24/7, rather than intermittant exposures. On top of this, the oral environment itself encourages more mercury to come off amalgams, couple that with hot fluids increasing uptake into lungs/brain, chewing foods, etc. The worst place for mercury is the mouth, yet it's the very place it remains, giving continual exposure.

Some people's body's are so intolerant to mercury, they only need to be exposed to a small amount before becoming ill by it. Amalgams are no small amount by the way. An entire lake can become totally contaminated by a tiny about of mercury, that means all the fish with it.

Dentists that are still using amalgam are usually very defensive about it and seem to have the code of silence going on amongst themselves about it. The dentists who stopped using it, were aware enough, brave enough to rid their dental offices of it and start using alternatives.

There are enough biologic dentsits now fully aware of the dangers of mercury, that one must wonder why any dentist at all would keep using it in light of growing evidence....and the fact it has already been banned in some areas.

You only need to check out the letters to the ADA online to see the anger out there at what this stuff has done to people, ruined lives, hellish detoxing to try and get well, improvements from removals etc.

If you listen to the general mainstream dentist? You will be told anything he wishes you to believe, because an admission is really not thinkable to him/her. For the ADA to admit the damage it has caused would mean suing like you would not believe. Making the tobacco company suing look like peanuts. They cannot afford to admit to it and instead will stay safe and say that there are some people who are hyper sensitive to amalgams, but will not admit the toxicity.

IT is a really hard decision to make, so I understand your confusion and feelings of cynism, mixed with fear about the entire thing. It's a little like feeling damned if you do and damned if you dont. The thing is, keeping my amalgams in forced my body into a state of constant storage. It had to keep finding areas to store the mercury, so much so that I was bloated from the toxins, even though I ate hardly a thing.

I've mentioned how I had permanently dilated pupiles? And very strange symptoms. Yes I did manage to gain improvement on the candida diet, even with amalgams still in, but the basic ongoing exposure was still taking its toll and I believe more dangerous because it's over time, just building up as the years go on.

I did not have a very safe removal process and probably could have done much better, but I didn't know any better. So yes I was exposed during removal. But I didn't get much worse. THe last removal was the problem because I swallowed mercury, PLUS, having no more amalgams tends to switch the body into dumping its storage. This process can be very very difficult, particularly if the person has no standard safe detox protocol to follow, but has no idea what is happening and simply takes anything and everything.

If I had it all over agian, I would do it differently for sure. IT can take a few years to get better yes, but for me it was worth it. The virus I got, I dont believe was a result of getting amalgams out, but was from an infected mascara, which allowed a potent bacteria to get into my system via the eyes.

Whether my still stored mercury had anything to do with me being more suseptible to that or not, I dont know. Probably did. But if I had not had those amalgams? I would never have had to go through such hell trying to detox the mercury that they caused in the first place.

It is a hard decision and one I would do very slowly, but surely if I did it again. I also have a genetic tendency towards holding toxins in and not excreting them, plus when I do detox, I go through hell (wtih any toxin, not just mercury), so my story maybe extreme because of the way I'm made, rather than the amalgams themselves.

I dont know what to tell you because it is so hard to give one easy answer. THere isn't one. you hear of spontaneous cures after amalgam removal, slow improvements over time through detox, or immediate worsening from exposure and a roller coaster ride to gradual improvement and maybe some do not benefit at all, perhaps there are some who get worse and stay worse....It is not a sure thing.

hi jamesl : I am 6 months post amalgam removal and can honestly say that I am doing way better now than before removal even with detox symtoms , last year at this time I could barely function and thought seriously about ending my life because of the severe depression and many other symtoms ,and now I am able to work 2 jobs, the depression is almost gone , and many of my symtoms are much better , amalgam removal was last resort for me ,I was still in doubt that it could be my amalgams causing so many health problems even as I was having them removed ,but was praying that they were the culprit ,as all my lab results came back as normal ,so dentist and doctors can say what ever they want to , but I know different I am living proof my previous 5 doctors and 2 dentist were wrong about mercury toxicity and how it effects people every one of them told me that my amalgam fillings could not cause these type of problems , the only way anyone will ever know how it feels is to live through there own mercury toxic hell

Yeah, I know some dentists that lie a lot too.

He's joking right? Sounds like he's not very well informed, there's tons of scientic evidence and there are lobbies in congress that have been using that evidence to try to get amalgam banned for a few years now. I think if you read the board you'll see some info posted about that just yesterday.

He probably just doesn't want to face the fact that he has posioned hundreds of people.

Why don't you try eating just 50 cans of tuna and see how you feel in the morning? If you get a good batch you'll have to quit at can 10.

I had some health issues improve quite a bit after having a few of them extracted. One of them that I had extracted had an electrical charge on it all the time for whatever reason, that darn thing was making me a cripple. Hey, I can swim again and I have been chopping wood all week! I couldn't do that all last year with the one tooth in there, it made my neck and shoulders so sore. It took a good several weeks to really clear up, the neck and shoulder pain, but it's gone completely. I lived with that off and on for a few years. i have no idea why the one tooth suddenly started doing that but it did.

I could blame lots of other things on my amalgms too but I won't bore you or myself with it. One things for certain, I feel much much better after chelating.

Hi James
I have had my amalgams out for 7 months and yes I do feel better all the time. Last year at this time I wished someone would have just shot me. I feel so much better it is just a very slow process. You have to be patient and sometimes is very hard. I can say this for as sick as I was the doctors could not find any cause, they didn't know. All my lab tests also came back normal. I do still have some rough days but has been less and less and not so severe. Can't tell you what to think but I can tell you I am felling so much better now than before.
Take care and good luck!

My dentist told me the exact same thing, I think it is a rehearsed response they learn in dental college. I was so happy to hear that, I trusted him until 2 years later, I didn't get any better and then my ND told me if you have resistant candida and metal fillings, there is little doubt you are mercury toxic. I got them out and wow, what a difference. Too bad I didn't know this 30 years sooner, mostly likely wouldn't have got cancer.

You are not a fool, you probably just saved your life, and will have a much better quality life too!!!!

If yu want scientific evidence, google the "smoking tooth" and/or "mercury toxicity from amalgams", you will find tons of scientific research; if you need more convincing, email me and I will give you more.

I am not sure if it is safe to eat 1000 cans of tuna in one day??? I don't believe that...

Did you ask your dentist how many old amalgam fillings he drilled out without protection? Does he believe that is safe too? Does he know how much mercury vapor is released in the body?

Even if amalgam fillings were safe drilling them out without protection is not. I am sure he did that many times <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kookoo.gif" alt="" />

It says a 150+ lbs person should not eat more than 1 can every 3 days. (if you eat the LEAST contaminated tuna)

I don't see how 1000 cans of tuna can be safe?

That means in theory you could eat 1000 cans over a 10 year period. Did he say 1000 cans in one day or over a longer period?

On average you would have to spread your tuna consumption over a 20 year period to be safe. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/looney.gif" alt="" />

If it is safe to eat 1,000 cans of tuna per day, then why are pregnant women advised against eating any? I am proof positive that tuna can poison you. Back in 1999, I was brain fogged, and found that eating tuna made my symptoms get better for a short period of time. Then I ate more tuna and felt better. So I kept eating it. I had no idea it had mercury and thought maybe the tryptophan in tuna was making me feel better. Well, I ate about 5 cans of tuna per day for about 6 months before I stopped. Two years later I was tested for mercury toxicity through hair, blood, and urine tests. The levels in the hair and the urine though a challenge came up at 7X the acceptable level for a woman of childbearing age. It even continued to show up in my blood just from a regular blood test. And this was two years after I ate the tuna.

So I would not go back to that dentist if I were you. I've been sick ever since. My husband's dentist recently retired. His wife worked in his office as the receptionist for years and now has broca's aphasis - she can no longer speak! You tell me that is not from amalgam vapor in the office all those years. But I'm sure they did not connect the two either.

James,

That said, I like you am scared to get my amalgams removed. I'm afraid I will end up really sick like Bex too. So I understand. I just don't think the person you should be taking advice from is the man who said that the amalgams are safer than tuna, and that tuna is no problem.

I'm stuck deciding whether or not to go forward as well...

You'll never get well again, if you dont remove your amalgams. However if you do, you'll likely get even more sicker, but it'll go away with time, hopefully. Early warning would be best, but there is no way to do that, as the earliest symptoms are so vague, and given that mercury toxicity is not recognized by mainstream medicine, what can you do?

I would have been glad if someone had said to me that your skin rashes and blurry vision may indicate mercury toxicity, so get your filling out. But of course nobody did it, and it took me nearly 15 years to figure that out for myself, with symptoms worsening slowly with time.

You know what I was thinking? If a dentist said that to me... you can eat a 1000 cans of tuna etc... I think I'd call the local board of health and report the guy.

Chnaces are excellent he's saying that to other people too, and especially if a pregnant woman comes in, or a mother with a young child, he could very well be endangering their health.

The EPA puts out mercury warnings all the time about fish. That type of advice from a doctor or dentist is completely unethical.

you and me both, I have some left and would love to get them removed but I have serious issues with the plastics too.

big problem. eat healthy, take some vitamin C every day, eat foods with raw garlic, eat cod liver oil, take iodine, filter your drinking water (very important), stay active, exercise, ride your bike, whatever. and of course pray pray pray. Never give up. I feel pretty much ok if I do those few basic things.

So Sick,

It really is a problem when you are hypersensitive to other things like the plastics. I'm so hypersensitive that I cannot even take a vitamin of any kind, so the though of putting something in my mouth I cannot take out really scares me!

I, like you, lead a very green, healthy lifestyle. But as I really don't feel well, I wonder if getting them removed is the answer, or if it will dig my hole deeper.

I can understand all the different fears because I had and have them all. They do not make it easy for people who are mercury toxic to make the greatest choices for alternatives either. Leaving us not knowing which way to go.

But certainly I do know two people from here who had cerec porcelain put in (one was particularly chemically sensitive and very sick) and both are working and not on here anymore and seem to be recovering slowly. I have just had one side of my mouth (composites) redone in cerec and noticed no reaction, no worsening put it that way. Normally when I get a new material in, something tends to happen.

I worry too about the bonding and lining because they are glue, but there is really no escaping that unless you go with gold. So I took my chances I guess you could say.

Getting the other side done at some point also. But again, I can only repeat what I've said in the past, because people on here are saying "I dont want to end up like Bex". Please understand that my current chronic condition is NOT amalgam related, or amalgam replacement related, but everything to do with a volatile bacteria/virus that I caught in 2003.

This would have harmed anybody, with or without amalgams. I may well have been in a more vulnerable position to catch it from detoxing mercury, but I dont know about that. I was healing from amalgam toxicity already and the changes were becoming more evident as time wore on.

Though the first year or two were quite hellish, I was recovering very well.

So again, my condition now is viral related. I could also have cavitations (jawbone infections) that maybe adding to this, because I had wisdom teeth removed in 2004, and got even worse after that.

So those two things seem to be what has impacted me the greatest. Do not be put off amalgam removal because of how I am, concentrate on other people who do not have these extra complications and seem to be slowly improving.

The ones who dont improve seem to stand out like sore thumbs, the ones that do gradually fade off the forum, but people dont tend to notice that because new ones join and also it takes a few years to heal.

I had some white fillings done years ago when they first came out, just a couple little teeny ones. No problems whatsoever. But then i had some minor cosmetic work done several years ago and I am not real happy with the newer filling materials, my gums are receding a little bit near them. I've read up on it, they have flouride in them so that the flouride leeches slowly into your mouth.. they have uranium in them so that the dentists can see them easily on x-ray.. they use this flowable stuff that I know for sure I am sensitive to... they didn't use all that 25 years ago and nobody uses the old filling stuff because they say it doesn't last but that's not what my mouth says. The old fillings still look great. They used more glass based stuff back then i think. There is other stuff in the new composites that aren't helping me make a decision... I don't really want another dental nightmare.

yes I know I woukld be better off without them but I just lost a tooth needlessly last year from a amalgam replacement done by a dentist a couple years ago... the filling was irritating the tooth just slightly and even though it never bothered me it showed up weird on the xray and the dentist does a needless root canal, which helped to devastate my health etc etc. I had it pulled. The root canal felt like a little antenna in my head plus the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/censored.gif" alt="" /> dentist filled it with mercury. cost me a lot of money to go through it all, it was so stupid.

I really don't seem to be able to win with the dentists so I will probably just trash the idea of removing the rest. I had a few rear ones pulled. that went well for the most part. If I lose anymore rear molars I will probably just go for a partial that I can wear when i go out for a just afew hours at a time.

The chelating helped me a whiole bunch. everyone says you should never ever chelate with amalgams in. Well I started that with the doctor a couple months before I ever arrived here at this forum and it's a good thing because I would probably still be suffering if I had listened to that advice. It was IV chelation with a great doctor. They did great work with me.

I am definitely allergic to the glues/bonding resins. I got an ulcer on my gum last time they tried that. My lips were burning and turning to parchment in a matter of days... major rashes on my neck... that cost me another $$$400-500 bucks to find out...

yeah, 'get your crap out of my mouth' that was that dentist i had to demand that they remove it they preferred to let me suffer.

Sosick, seems that you are doing remarkably well as you are with the regime you're on and maybe for you, things are best left as they are.....I think having less amalgams is still helpful, and sticking to a healthy diet and taking what works.

All these things are toxic to some degree and who knows what impact they all have on the immune system. But what is the worse of two evils? I also know that having mercury makes a person more sensitive, so that the replaced plastics can seem to cause more issues that they might otherwise.

I know that detoxing mercury over the years did indeed make me much less sensitive to things, but when I still had it in me and hadn't detoxed it, I felt like I was sensitive to my plastics and was very upset. I kept complaining about it and saying I should never have done this and on it went, and in the end simply chelating properly improved that. I think most of the symptoms were due to the dumping of stored mercury, rather than much else. THere may have been the added sensitivity of plastics because of the mercury in me making me more suseptible though, but I can't be certain. But chelating improved that.

When I had amalgams in, I found relief by sticking to the candida diet for the most part. So just doing that was helpful. I think anytime the immune system is under strain, this diet will be helpful.

Also, just to mention tuna again, I remember I had a can of it once and ended up bedridden for from the toxicity. Admittedly I still had amalgams, but the effects from one can of tuna were almost immediate. The effects from amalgams are more slow and in a way it's even worse because it's what you dont notice that can be causing long term damage over time- I use this analogy to describe it - when a frog is put in boiling water, it jumps out immediately. But put a frog in cool water and slowly turn up the temperature to boiling point, the frog remains and isn't shocked enough to jump out. A can of tuna was bad enough, but it's effects were immediate. Amalgams are a drip feed of 24/7 toxicity building up in the tissues and organs and often by the time symptoms show up, a person is dealing with alot of damage.

Yeah I ate some tuna when I still sick and had the same experience.

Who knows, maybe in a few years dentists will get it together and figure out that there are problems with composites too, well they already know. But whoever patents the first truly benign calcium based filling material will make a fortune so undoubtedly there's plenty of incentive for someone to be working on it already, which someone probably is. I could probably do that if I set my mind to it. but I have too much on my plate already.

I'll wait. Jesus is the best doctor anyway. They have these revivals in south america and the artic and other places and these people come out and God has fixed their teeth and every thing, replaced missing teeth, no joke... so i know he can do it.

I think he wants me to be just a little bit sick and needy right now, keeps me closer to Him, a taste of reality, my feet on the ground... a gentle reminder that i need him every day. I actually like it in a certain needy way... he's been here a lot of late and there is nothing better than that... I feel his presence that awesome love and healing fiery heat a couple times week of late. he knows I love the attention... I am such a ham.

I have wandered a lot in the past when i am feeling my ultimate top notch sad to say. Drinking, schmoozing, I was starting to do that again so it's no mystery why i got sick. and of course there is you all from whom I have learned so much too and hope to at least plant a seed of true salvation into here and there also. I do know how to plant but I don't water very well so someone will have to flollow me i am waiting... Jesus needs more workers Bex. Not far off you know...

Be forever blessed in him yes indeed.

sosick I relate. My nature is such that given enough health, I'm off and my faith tends to take a backseat and sometimes no seat at all. I have that kind of nature. Not proud of that considering how much my faith has gotten me through to this point. But what you said rang bells more than I can say!!! lol, wow.

Regarding the composites? I do hope that they will come out with a healthy alternative, surely as you said, someone, somewhere MUST be working on this? There has to be something totally benign that woudl suit everybody. I hope they get to it, but yes I can only imagine the cost of it if/when they do.

Yep, I have heard of the miracles of the teeth! and many more like them. Wonderful! Wish that happened to me!!! I envy your steadfast faith!

The tuna thing happened to you too? I have actually been having some fish lately and hope I'm not doing anything silly. Not tuna or shark or anything like that, but New Zealand fresh fish like "Pearl" "Hoki" etc. Supposedly low mercury, but it's hard to know what to do. I really feel I need some fish, but hope im not doing anything stupid here....I've only just started to try them and haven't noticed anything as such, but that doesn't always mean it's all "ok", things can often show up later. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Fish is actually such a healthy part of our diets, I'm just appaulled at how the human race has been stuffed around like this with such horrible poisons.

Thinking about the crematorians and how much mercury goes into the atmosphere because of burning bodies and the amalgams contained!!!

Way back when I first started noticed physical symptoms my tongue used to get white patches within an hr roughly of eating a tuna sandwiche. I used to eat them daily had done so for 10yrs roughly, I only had 3 amalgams. When I finally realised it was causing a problem I had really bad digestion, fatigue and tremors, these were the worst symptoms there were other issues.

the very sad thing is the FDA is so concerned with the lead tainted products coming from china ,when there is and has been a very real health threat for decades in turning a blind eye to mercury in amalgam fillings issue , I just hope that one day people in those oganazations remove the blinders and finally correct the problem ( WHAT THE F**K ARE THEY THEY THINKING)
p.s. the heating and cooling industry is slowly phasing out liquid mercury room heating thermostats because of the possability of the liquid mercury escaping from the glass tube or getting broken during installation or removal unless they are the electronic programable type, most of us have them in our homes , infact ,if you accidentally break the tube that contains mercury and it spills on the floor ,you are required by law to call an E.P.A certified hazardous material clean-up crew to remove and clean-up the area ,one thermostat contains the eqivalent of about 2 avrage size amalgam fillings ,I say again
(WHAT THE F**K IS THE A.D.A AND THE F.D.A THINKING)

It's interesting seeing all of your experiences with tuna. When I was a child, I ate a tuna sandwich every day for lunch. And then when I ate all of that tuna that I described back in 1999, I'm sure I was having sensitivity reactions all along too. I actually felt an adrenaline rush for one hour after eating the tuna (which made me feel better). Then one hour after that I'd be more brain fogged than ever. My problem was that I had no clue and I thought the adrenaline rush indicated I was getting better and that I needed the protein for my hypoglycemia, not poisoned. I know a woman who told me she was also poisoned by tuna. She said she was eating fresh tuna every day for lunch. She thought she was
eating healthy unti she developed symptoms. Her mercury levels were measured to be high and she chelated I think. There was an article in the paper about her. Of course there is never a legitmiate article in the paper about the danger of the amalgam. I do eat wild salmon every once in a while still.

Regarding the fillings, my dentist wants to fill mine with some new material called "Acorn." It came up low sensitivity when I had a blood test done. What I wonder is that even if I am sensitive, if I am less sensitive to this will I be better than I am?

Thanks everyone.

I agree about the slow release of amalgam,it is such a slow poisoning you don't realize until it is too late. I started removal 6 years ago. After having 4 of them out I decided to slow down a little with it. Well after about a year or so I felt so much better was working more than I had in the last 5 or 6 years. I should have continued with removal but was a dummy and never got to the last four until 7 months ago. Only reason I went ahead at that point is because I ended up sicker than a dog. I spent 6 months wondering around on the net and asking questions to anyone that would listen. Could not figure the dang thing out until one day my sis and I stumbled across the smoking tooth video. Whoa what a revelation that was, all this time and all the agony I had endured 6 years before...can't believe I missed it. Well that just goes to show you what a slow poison it really is.
It seems like I am closer to God also while I am sick. I have a tendency to forget sometimes. Not good and somewhat ignorant of me. I sure like when God is hanging out with me, I'm never lonely and gives me a good warm feeling. Stupid to stray. So maybe this crappy illness is just worth it all. I have God in my life stronger than ever before and my faith is stronger than it ever has been and so I consider that a plus. Always knew I needed work in that department just didn't know it was gona come down to me being horribly sick. Well I guess You have to take the good with the bad....Right!!!
Tuna, Have not touched the stuff in over 7 months, last time I did I felt horrible. My kids eat it every once in a great while but not often just because I won't keep it in the house anymore. LOL I eat a little bit of salmon and have had some pollock recently was really good and no bad reactions either.
I agree with Mikey on the amalgam issue WHAT THE <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/censored.gif" alt="" /> WERE THEY THINKING!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kookoo.gif" alt="" />

1000 cans of ANYTHING is probably not healthy for ANYONE!
We should ALL be avoiding tinned/canned foods as much as possible, not only has tuna(for example)known to contain some amount of mercury but the metals such as aluminum/lead from the actual can can leach into the foods, especially the liquid...what a toxic cocktail for your health.
