Hi All!
Am planning to get my amalgams removed ASAP. Is there a checklist of things one needs to take care of to ensure the body is ready for the removal process.
For example make sure Adrenals are ok, Kidneys are in good shape etc. What supplements to take? Is there a formal protocol on this? Does someone know of a Doctor in the NY/NJ/CT area who would be able to help with this process?
Thanks very much for your help. RG

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can tell you what my dentist told me....to take 2000mg of vitamin C with bioflavinoids (like ester C) everyday, and rinse with (aka hold in your mouth until you can't stand it anymore) and swallow Oreganol (oregano juice) twice a day for about a week before coming in. 24 hours before your appt, STOP taking the vitamin C, because you won't numb right, if you don't.
This is my dentists procedure, I'm sure many others are different. I don't have my amalgams out yet, because I wasn't ready at the time of my consultation to pay so much, but they had me folow this protocol to get ready, just in case I was having them removed that day.
You can go to iaomt.org and search for a dentist. It looks like their might be quite a few in your area. It doesn't always list their websites, and if you see someone listed without one, you can usually search google and find if they have a webpage. That's what I did with mine. Hopefully this will help you a little.
I want to get mine out soon, and I wish you luck on yours. Please keep us updated on how it goes.

Hi. I use Dr. Mark Berkowitz in Morganville, NJ. His # is (732) 591-1112. I have not yet gone through removal, but have been in touch with one of his patients. She is doing MUCH better now - she began removal in Feb. and finished at the end of the summer. Dr. Berkowitz had mercury toxicity himself and is much better. He is very highly regarded by many of the alternative medicine practioners in the area.
Hope this helps.

I have found the most important thing to get right, even before anything else is the diet. For me, nothing else did much until this was taken care of and in fact if I had to do only ONE thing, that would be it. Detox and health rely on the gut and liver, and if a person is suffering too much yeast overgrowth (candida), their immunity is down, etc, they will likely have problems with detoxing and be much more suseptible to damage/exposure during removal and have problem after with eliminating the poisons. That is my experience with myself. A top dentist here in my country who has studied extensively (biologic), now refuses to remove amalgams from his patients until he has them pre-prepped beforehand and he now starts with the diet. This diet is an antiyeast diet and usually improves the gut and liver. All sugar in all forms MUST be eliminated completely. Sugar, honey, fruit, milk (lactose), high carbs like potatoes (potatoe chips etc). Eliminate caffeine, cheese, high gluten grains or old world grass grains if a person needs to do more than just get rid of the gluten ones - wheat, rye, barley, oats, millet and rice. Concentrate on consuming meats (chicken, beef, lamb, liver, turkey), eggs (free range), vegetables (stir fry, steam and/or raw), plain sugar free acidophilus yoghurt, raw nuts (almonds and brazil safest), herbal teas. Also make sure you have enough essential fats in your diet like fish oil (mercury free), olive oil (in salads/cooking), butter, (cooking and spreads), flaxseed oil (teaspoon mixed in with yoghurt 2-3 times a day). These are just suggestions, but the only thing that really helped me at all. Beyond that? The rest to me is just supplementary and an aid to this. Supplements like selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, Microhydrin (can help too apparently) seem to all be pretty good in a mercury toxic condition with support and protection and aid to detoxing, along with the proteins and fats in the diet. Some people take products like algin or charcoal in an aid to help mop up any mercury or new mercury they might be exposed to (e.g. during procedure). It can be taken before the appointment and after. Best taken away from other supplements to avoid clashing or even absorbing nutrients. between meals might be wise. The diet for me is the one though and takes a few weeks normally to notice a difference. Cheating on the diet is not wise, can lead to a relapse. I hope this is somewhat helpful. There is a list of dentists on this web link and you can click on whatever area is of interest to you. Make sure when you do click on an area, you scroll properly down the page because it can be a bit deceptive and seem to show only one dentist, when there maybe other beneath. http://www.holisticdentalnetwork.com/directory.php#USA

While on the anti-yeast (or anti-candida) diet, calcium intake may be limited, so you should perhaps take a calcium+magnesium+D vit combo, calcium is best taken with magnesium + D vit to make uptake more efficient.
According to my understanding, yeast overgrowth happens always with mercury poisoning, because mercury in blood stream decreases immune system activity. You may therefore find that most of your symptoms after removal are caused by candida (yeast), and possibly other bacterias and viruses in addition to abnormally functioning thyroid and adrenals, regardless of what your doctor tells you (if you even bother to consult one).
I and some other people have experienced the 3-day delay after removing your last amalgam (if you should remove them all in one go, which is not advisable if you have many of them), when your body kicks in and starts detoxifying, which is a bit rough, but maybe less frightening when you know what is going to happen. For me the change was dramatic, since I likely went from high adrenal hormones to low (based on symptoms), while the thyroid also had to scale its activity downwards.

For me, the candida diet actually increased my ability to absorb nutrients/minerals and calcium from my diet. Not just from the elimination of foods that interfere with calcium absorption (sugar etc), but the intake of healthy foods like nuts, broccoli, seeds, yoghurt etc.
As with other nutrients, they get absorbed better when on this kind of diet.
I agree with what you said, that candida overgrows in this kind of environment (metal toxicity) because the same thing happened when I was poisoned by a big cigarette smoking intake. My yeast issues went out of control. Yeast tends to overgrow naturally, which I think does act as a kind of buffer, but unless the person sticks to a sugar free diet, this overgrowth spirals out of control very easily and makes the person doubly sick.
At least that's how it is for me. I didn't realise how essential this diet was until I went on it. It frightens me to think what would have happened had I never known about it and stayed on as I was.
