Hi! I had all my amalgams removed at the end of May. I am wondering if others have lost teeth after this? I have already had one pulled and now it looks like I may lose another. Is this common? and what did those of you who have lost teeth do after...a brige or partial? Thanks This has been a long journey and I know I have along way to go. calli

I am not sure how you are losing them, are they all being pulled, if so, why?
I have had one root canalled tooth pulled, but then I got cancer so the rest are on hold. I got infection twice after that and I think that made my cancer spread much faster. Cavitation removal has to be done carefully and only by someone that knows them well.
Personally I would get a partial, bridges would require drilling down of the 2 teeth beside it and that would be much more expensive and compromise 2 more good teeth.
Best luck, Sandi xoxo

Hi Momofseven,
Yes unfortunately this does seem to happen to some of us. Had I realised that I would lose a toothover this I don't know if I would have gone ahead with it.
About one week after I had my last amalgam replaced (I had 25 removed and replaced) I started getting the most agonizing pain you could imagine. It carried on for about 5 weeks and my life at that time is just a blur as I was on super dooper pain killers.
As for a bridge etc - well I just have a big gap now. It was one of my large upper molars, third from the back. Cannot see the gap unless I smile real big. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I was really angry with dentist. I had no idea that this could happen. No warning. As far as I know, I had no problems with my teeth - just wanted the fillings replaced. Now I have to chew on one side for the rest of my life.
Now I get a lot of aching pain where the tooth was pulled - 10 months ago. I have an appointment with a DIFFERENT dentist to check for a cavitation problem.
Anyway, hope you aren't going to lose any more teeth. If you have a noticeable gap you may want to look into a titanium replacement.
Cheers from Rachel

Hi Sandi, Thanks for responding. The reason I had one of my back molars extracted was because I had a big abcess and had already tried antibiotics and did not want to do a root canal. I will be praying for you. I have read your posts and you seem like such a wonderful person!!! What is your status right now with the cancer? Calli

Hi. I had a tooth with a mercury root canal out. I felt it was for the best as it was a dead tooth. So far I haven't bothered filling the gap, or on a tooth I had out a few years ago. I may do something about it in the future, but would have to research it all etc, as I have become very worried about artifical things in my mouth, particularly metal.
One of the theories why some people get sick from amalgams is that they have sensitivities - and so the body may be more sensitive than the average persons to anything artificial. (The other theory, of course, being that some peoples bodies don't excrete toxins very well).
My main problem from the rear extraction is that it has made eating more difficult because of an existing jaw problem.
