This is why I limit my vit c dosage:

“Most vitamins are poor synthetic imitations of the real thing. When Nature packages it's vitamins and minerals, it includes all of the cofactors which enable you to absorb and use the vitamin. A purified substance has no such benefits.

Take the ubiquitous Vitamin C - or ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid is made almost exclusively by Chinese chemical processing companies who produce it through a highly chemicalized process using sugar as the raw ingredient.

In one experiment, subjects had their ascorbic acid levels measured before the experiment and daily during the experiment. They were then put on 1g (1000mg) of Vitamin C, increasing to 2g per day. Their blood level of ascorbic acid rose quickly. However, after a few days the levels started to fall again until they were back to pre-supplementation levels, even though the subjects were still taking the supplement. This is because our bodies are not stupid. They cannot tolerate toxic levels of ascorbic acid, so they produce an enzyme called ascorbase to break down the ascorbic acid. The more ascorbic acid we take, the more ascorbase we produce.

When the subjects stopped taking their supplement, they had massive amounts of ascorbase lying around with no ascorbic acid coming in, so the ascorbase destroyed all their remaining Vitamin C leaving them with a Vitamin C DEFICIENCY.

Of course we need vitamins and minerals, but we need them in the form of food. That's why buying supplements in supermarkets is a bad idea because you are likely to get synthetic versions of the real thing that do you no good. Often they are also full of fillers, binders, additives and artificial sweeteners which make them toxic and harmful."

(and it doesn’t help I don’t want to eat fruit, which is the other “food state” source of vit c)
