I’m a bit concerned about the new fad amongst Christian fundamentalists lately and that is: this blanket statement “I love science.” What do you (you in general – I’m not targeting any one specific poster here) mean when you say that you love science? What parts of science do you love exactly? Really, I want to know. Do you have lots of text books at home which you regularly read?
I love Elizabethan and Jacobean literature myself. Consequently I spend a great deal of my free time reading dramas written by people like William Shakespeare and James Webster. It interests me, I pursue it, I do indeed love it. Are your sentiments about science the same as mine in E&J Lit.? Or are you just saying that because you're afraid that if you don't then people might think you're hypocritical; so that you’re not accused of what early Christianity was guilty of: suppressing knowledge and progress? I ask all of this because it sure seems to me that if you do indeed love science yet want evolution taken out of it (not to mention geology if you want to argue that the Grand Canyon is only a few thousand years old), then there must be an awful lot in just about every modern science book that you disagree with. An awful awful lot. Do you have a science book where you love only certain pages of it but the rest you disagree with? Is there some secret vault of Christian-approved science books that I’m not aware of and that’s what you love?
I know this may sound terribly condescending and I apologize for coming across that way as it’s not my intention. But the statement ‘I love science’ sure does beg the question. What do you love, exactly, about science? It’s okay if you’re really not that big on science, you don’t have to say it just to make your arguments about creationism look stronger.
Please consider, I am not a scientist, I am not an evolutionist - yes I am religious. If you label me as otherwise then you've just made it clear you haven't read my post - responding to a post which you haven't read thoroughly indicates that you're not informed on what you're even arguing against! I'm also not a Wiccan and have no idea how this got started other than oversight. If I read your post and see the word 'Sheva' in it, I don't rush to conclusions and assume that you're a Hindu when you could very well be arguing against it! That would be pretty embarassing, don't you think?
