Took a couple weeks off of chelation, for vacation and whatnot. Started again two days ago on 25mg DMSA and 50MG ALA (which is lower than I have been tolerating) and at the end of day two I got wicked sick. Not sick to my stomach, but severe chills, very weak, tired, and then a fever of 101. It's the sickest I've ever been, I still feel like crap today but nothing like yesterday...anything like this ever happen to anyone? I don't know if it was the chelation as I take other meds too, just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I would sometimes feel sicker after the round - maybe from redistribution? Despite the Algin. But it was not chills, it was more brain fogginess and anxiety, going away after a few days. But not a fever, maybe you caught a bug going around?

HI Claythrow, I think sometimes chelation can cause someone to be more suseptible to infections. Not only because of the chelator DMSA itself, but also because of the movement of metals and the stress of chelating.
Also, when you take a break from chelating, sometimes you may get more of a build up of mercury during that time. Because mercury is still continuing to leak out of you. This is why some people who think they might be cured, stop chelating prematurely and wonder why later on they feel sick again. It's usually stored mercury that still hasn't been sufficiently chelated out and it is still leaking out and if it's not being continually picked up by chelating agents, then you may notice the effects if you have a long enough break.
Just some thoughts.

Dear Claythrow I have experienced this a great deal, even without chelating, sometimes I don't feel too bad during the day, but especially at night. I feel like my temperature has soared and have terrible nightsweats and inbetween chill and fell achey and feverish. It just seems to come in waves and is very draining, then in the morning, because I probably get about 2 hours sleep I feel weak and exhausted. Sometimes the waves of this come during the day, but I have had this since first becoming ill 3 years ago and since removal it hasn't changed, it's almost like having the flu. I havn't got any better really and am at a point of not really knowing what to do. It's almost like there's a continuous virus going on that your body is trying to fight off. I can empathsise. Love Tracy x

Maybe you just have a touch of the flu or some bug. I would ride it out. 101 is not too high, slight fevers are sometimes a good thing. Fevers kill all sorts of viruses, bacteria and mycoplasmas.
You will probably feel wonderful afterwards. Drink plenty of water.

Claythrow, I just finished my 41st round of chelation using DMSA/ALA. I tend to believe that what Bex said is true in my case. I took a longer break from my chelation routine this time. It wasn't as positive an experience as it usually is (I usually feel much better on round than off round) and am having bad redistribution symptoms this morning. I'm having more trouble getting my thoughts together and am feeling very warm despite a low temperature. Think I will stay with my 3 days on and 3 to 4 days off from now on.

Ooooyeh, 41 rounds?? How long does it actually take to get better from this? Some people seem to be chelating for years.

How long does it take to do one round? I have heard it can take years Linda, depending on your burden...and even then you can never get it all out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I wrote the post above and have just finished my 41st round. LindaLou, re: How long does it actually take to get better from this? Some people seem to be chelating for years.
I have been chelating for nearly a year. Some people (especially those with MCS) may take up to 36 months to recover.
Anon, re: How much did you improve chelating?
Significantly, I would never have stayed with this protocol for so long, if I hadn't seen huge improvements. I really wish that I felt better today as I would post these improvements for you. I have posted them on this forum before, though. Just say, coming from how sick I was, I would gladly do 41 rounds for 5 more years just to see the improvement that I have to date.
I appreciate all of the posts on this forum, as I have benefited from many of them, as well.

what happens when chelating is that the dmsa and ala brings the mercury that is deep in the tissue and organs to the surface and that next chelation round will remove the surface mercury and remove more deep mercury from the organs and tissue to the surface agian and creates its own detox cycle ,what may have happened is that when you took a break ,your body just kept releasing more and more mercury and when you started chelating again you probably got a double or triple dose of mercury released into your system all at once causing a major detox episode

Mikey has got it. I reckon this is what happens. Take this for an example. When I was toxic with mercury and had already had amalgams out, my body was trying to dump the storage.
A DMPS IV injection just about blew me away. The already slow dumping was accelerated by this alone TEN FOLD. I mean I was an absolute MESS. I did not know how to handle it and the doctor who did it, had no interest in helping me after what happened. He was angry because I rang him in tears. No doubt to him I sounded neurotic, but for me? I was devastaed by the symptoms. This is when I began to get massive rashes come up all over my body whenever I heated up (mercury rising). This came after the DMPS and I believe it forced the mercury into more accessible areas to where it readily came up onto the skin. But bad as it was in one way, it did force my body into a more active excretion and coming out through the skin wasn't a bad way to go. But being covered from head to toe in rashes was bizzare. It would hit and be hot and again you could smell metal. Quite amazing. This went on for a very long time.
Anyway, that was that, so I was stuck. My body went through continual cycles of trying to excrete whatever was leaking out. . I would feel filled up again with toxicity and would deteriorate until my body would go into a massive excretion and I'd cry and salivate uncontrollably and then once that was over, i would suddenly feel better and more normal. I even looked better.
But no sooner did I get this relief patch, than I would worsen again as more storage was leaking out and then of course once that had built up enough, another attack of crying and salivating would occur. Then the nice freer patch and then repeat of the same thing. It's a bit like more mercury downloads to replace that which you just excreted. Continual cycles of it.
This went on for a few years before enough mercury was removed that I started suddenly to feel better and for longer and longer periods inbetween the excretions.
Anything that remotely could move mercury would increase this massive reaction to almost double, but I would do it just to speed things up more. amazing what you go through just to get health.
I took a lot of stuff to try and increase the excretion. And often dire reactions and consequences because I didn't know how to chelate myself safely or properly. I just took anything and everything. Did finally begin to use Andy's protocol, which made it easier, but I still never stuck to anything consistently anyway.

It may have been the metal, or a bug...who knows. I feel better now though. I've never had a bug where naseua or upset stomach was not a symptom. I never felt sick to my stomach or nautious (that never looks right when I spell it) my stomach actually hurt, but it was more of an external pain (not muscular, but not within my stomach) Weird...but I'm glad its over.
