The West has transferred much of its manufacturing industry to Asia and is now beholden to it for the cheap goods that so many people want. It seems a little ironic that we will buy our £3 jeans from Asda (a British supermarket owned by Wal-Mart) and yet gasp in surprise when we find out that the process of making these things is less than savoury. What will we hear of next -- people not being paid a decent wage or given humane working hours for sewing them together? Shock horror.
There's a time bomb waiting to go off here. I have been saying for 10 years or more that China is going to be the next superpower. They've got us by the goolies and it's our own fault because we've handed them over on a plate. (Hm, conjures up a rather bizarre image . . . ) People who are carping about it are clearly not wanting to get used to the idea, but I don't think there's any going back now.
As for all the contamination in clothing, vitamins, food, etc. Again, we are the ones paying them to make this stuff. We'd better get over there and start supervising it then. Oh dear no, that costs money. Cheaper to turn a blind eye, pretend it doesn't happen, and let a few people complain when it's noticed by someone.

The story says that formaldehyde causes eye irritation and allergies but accidentally fails to mention that formaldehyde is a potent carcinogen.

we are all to blame ,everyone of us we have traded our self reliance for cheaper goods ,if we started to manufacture the same goods in our own countries then we wouldn't be in this mess ,just try to find something made in your own country ,it is very tuff to do. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Thanx anonymous. It's almost impossible if you try and consider everything. I think the best one can do is lessen the exposure. But when you hear this, it gets to the point of being ridiculous.
Linda and Mikey, couldn't agree more. China is sometimes referred to as the sleeping giant. It is all about money and the poor workers at the bottom are wearing themselves out for a pittence.

It's so polluted in Beijing the IOC is quite worried about staging the olympics there next year. some days they can barely see 10 feet in front of themselves in parts of the cities, all over China.
let them keep the factories and their filthy rewards of greed,we don't want the trash. i do prefer somewhat clean air. You cannot even drink the water in China it's such a wasteland.
you can buy stuff made in the USA or other countires, just look a bit harder, the multitudes of china crap simply obscures the rest on the store shelves, but it's there. May cost you a buck more but the quality is always better.
How much junk does one person need anyway.

Oh my goodness, this is horrible, shoes, slippers, purses most of my accessories are made in China or other Asian countries. What good is chelating mercury if we continue to absorb other toxins from the stuff we use on a daily basis?
No wonder we are told to wash before wearing, but what about the dye in our shoes and slippers, we continue to absorb that stuff every day!!!
No more Chinese for me!!!
