SoSick, I will respond to the link you asked me to look at if you will refrain from patronising or insulting me.
I can't say I'm surprised in any way by what this article says about Mormons in Utah. I have dealt with Mormons and I have heard stories from people who have been to Salt Lake City. I'm glad I don't live there. Point being . . . that this is a power-obsessed theocracy? Well, yes. It's nice that you oppose this scenario, and so does Russ from the sound of it. A lot of fundamentalist Christians over there don't agree with you though. They would be just as happy to set up their own repressive regime in the United States. A lot of them preach terrible hate, haven't you heard them?
I also have to say that I can't see much difference between Mormonism and Christianity. They say different things of course, but look at how similar they are -- these, and most religions in general. An infallible prophet (look -- we can prove these things came true -- we have reached our promised land!). An infallible book. An "us vs. them" mentality -- we are right and you are wrong. Social laws embedded in the religion and purporting to be the will of God. An acceptance of beliefs that "gentiles" might see as being weird, illogical, even oppressive because when you only associate with other people who do these things, they become the norm, and it's everyone else who is weird.
I also have yet to meet a fundamentalist of any religion who has much of a sense of humour.
As Jill said, how do you draw a line between a cult and a religion?
