That is debatable. Many would disagree with that, especially for those who do not have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. What are your sources for this information? I can understand that from others' point of view here, I am relaying information from a naturopathic doctor that may or may not be reliable. From my own point of view, which I know at least a few people here will have some trust in, I am totally convinced of this person's reliability and knowledge and unlike most other doctors, I know I can trust what she says because she does her research. I find it frustrating that this seems to be completely irrelevant to you JNY. If someone were posting here and citing this as their source of info I would at least perk up and think hmm, this is what an expert thinks, maybe it's worth considering. It is not impossible to find other sources on the web also saying that little EPA and DHA are made from ALA in the body, including the Mercola site. There's also a surprising amount of misinformation around. Many places sell flax seed oil claiming it's got similar omega-3 benefits to fish oil, and it doesn't. The omega-3 it contains is ALA, not DHA and EPA. Many will also sell omega-6 supplements, usually in conjunction with other things like omega-3 and omega-9; and while omega-6 is also essential, it is overabundant in almost everyone's diet and is only likely to make sick people sicker. What is more, as another example, many reputable vitamin companies will sell supplements that combine magnesium with calcium even though the calcium will prevent absorption of the magnesium. I personally feel very lucky to have access to expert advice that can help me to see what's helpful and what isn't when it comes to supplements. You also seem to be convinced that EPA and DHA are only important when it comes to cardiovascular health. This is not the case. I don't understand why your attitudes seem to be so intractable and dogmatic. You don't seem to want to take on board anything I have said. Are you a vegetarian? Linda.
