I found it interesting, and very sad at the same time, as I was just feeling crappy this morning myself, watching on the History channel, to find that Ivan the Terrible had been mercury poisoned and that most likely the cause of the death was directly related to this.
It appears that he had a sexually transmitted disease and in the 16th century they used mercury as a cure for some diseases...So, he may have been an evil person that people remember him as, who killed his own son, but large doses of mercury which where given to him led to his behaviour to get progressively worse, where he went mad, and in the end died as a result of continued poisoning. Astonishingly large amounts of mercury where found in his body post mortem.
It never seizes to amaze me how many lives have been ruined due to mercury. And the worst thing about it, we are no longer in the 16th century!!

Yes a fellow that I met from this forum has a book that belonged to his grandma, I believe she was a doctor of sorts, and she documents using mercury as a treatment for certain illnesses. And apparently they still feel fit to use it as medicine today. So sad..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I have no doubt that mercury was the biggest contributing factor to my cancer.
I think Mozart was also treated with mercury, he also didn't die from the disease, but from mercury toxicity.

I read an article that President Lincoln was on mercury pills for some affliction as well, and this caused fits of rage in him.
Amazing that anyone could think it would be OK in a person's mouth.

Hello Elvis:
Yes, acne is something Huggins and others mention. I went through a terrible time with that in younger years. In hindsight, I am about 95% sure mercury was the cause. Now it has been replaced by dry skin, though that is getting better after amalgam removal.
What this stuff does to us is unbelievable. I thought I had a thyroid problem. Imagine my surprize after reading a website on mercury poisoning that I had about 30 symptoms related to this. I switched doctors, and she has confirmed this. But what a struggle. I was walking around getting worse and worse - with no real answers. It bothers me. I read these posts from all these fine people, and there is nothing left to do but pray that healing will happen for all of us.
How did you come to the conclusion that mercury affected you?
