I had a challenge test that used DMSA. The 24 hour urine sample without it (pretest) showed that my mercury was lower then the "norms". Mine was <1 and anything >4 is considered a problem. However, after taking the DMSA and then collecting the urine, my mercury level was 14. Very High!!
I actually felt pretty good that day. Did your doctor say why he/she was using EDTA?
