It is worth doing the candida diet no matter what state of health you are in, or with or without amalgams. It is simply a healthy diet that enables the body to garnish its healing power and start to not only reduce any yeast overgrowth that might happen to be a problem, but also naturally improve immunity and cleanse the system.
It cannot be harmful unless you are starving yourself. What is harmful is the continued consumption of toxic junk foods that further compound the problem. Increasing the toxicity of what your body already has to deal with, encouraging yeast overgrowth and the toxins that come from that, overloading the gut and liver, burdening the immune system and so forth.
Bacteria, yeast, parasites are all encouraged by a diet that contains sugars.
Think of the diet as something you are doing simply for your overall health and taking some of the burden of your immune system. Some people get much improvements from it alone they even question whether they still have mercury poisoning!
Though mercury toxicity can be the reason for the overgrowth, so it is hard to tell what problem is doing what. I would definitely do the diet if I was you, but you "May" get intiial worsening of symptoms as the body begins to reduce and clear out overgrowth and toxins.
This can last a few weeks, depending on how toxic you are and how much overgrowth there is. The diet usually consists of excluding sugar, fruit, honey, milk, grains and high carb vegetables like potatoes, corn, peas/beans etc.
You can freely eat meat, eggs, liver, chicken, vegetables that are low carb (which there are plenty), tomatoes and lemons, maybe acidophilus yogurt if yu tolerate any dairy (sugar free/plain) and maybe a few raw nuts like almonds/brazil. But they should be kept minimal.
Healthy fats like butter, extra virgin olive oil, virgin coconut oil, fish oil (mercury free), flaxseed oil (which can be mixed in yoghurt), lard, all can aid in helping you heal, increasing bile flow, help satiate the appetite etc.
What you add to that is up to you. You may not like the sound of the diet, but it's the one that tends to help most people. Some may decide to add sme non gluten grain or a bit of fruit if they tolerate it, but usually that is no advisable as it can still feed existing yeast.
I cannot tell you exactly if/when you will feel better. It differs for each person. But typically it can take about 3 weeks or so...
It is hard also if you are under a cloud of mercury toxicity or other toxicity because sometimes it depends which one is causing the most issues (candida or other toxicity).
