HI anon, you said that if amalgams were really that bad, they'd have banned them? They already have in certain areas and they have been banned many many years ago but were reintroduced.
Yes they know of the toxicity of these amalgams, but that is not their priority. Money and the fact they are cheap and easy to place and mould into the tooth. They knew they were toxic from the get go.
It is not just about sensitiviity, but about toxicity. If it was just about allergy, I would have gotten well as soon as they were removed. I didn't I had to go through years of hell from detoxing the stuff out of my organs and tissues. It is not about fear mongering, it is genuine and many people heal after going through the detox, some have problems from then on. It's not predictable how it will go and whether some will be lucky enough to get well from amalgam removal or not. But it can be a cause or contributing factors in many inexplicable health problems and it is often worth looking into, especially if someone has searched other avenues and gotten nowhere.
Sweden banned mercury amalgams and in some areas by law they are now required to put up a warning notice in their dental office about some of the risks. They do not of course list all, only the absolutely requirements (e.g. unborn child risk).
