I am on a tight financial position (as many of you) and I would like to know what I could do to test if mercury poisoning is what is causing my symptoms from my silver filling in my molar.
Is there a reliable test for this? I only have one filling, and probably one is enough since there are too many variables
Also I was wondering what chelation meant?
Thanks for the help

HI there, I think it is hard to test for mercury levels because often mercury is hard to pick up. For example, you may have a hair test done and find barely any mercury level, yet you maybe very poisoned. Some people hang onto mercury tightly and do not tend to excrete it, so it may not show up.

Some of the sickest patients can show the lowest levels and this is called retention toxicity. either they are retaining mercury and not letting it go, and/or they are easily poisoned even by small amounts of mercury.

There are ways of testing that mercury maybe part of the problem by having a hair test done and checking mineral levels. Mercury tends to distort minerals in the body and there is often a pattern that can indicate mercury is at work. I do not know enough about that, but there is a book about that by Andrew Cutler.

Also some people do challenge tests, which means you take a loading dose of chelator (detox agent) to try and encourage the mercury in you to come out so it can be tested (urine). But again this is not always accurate and not always safe because it can make a person very ill from pulling out and moving mercury around.

Chelation is basically detoxing mercury or more accurately it means taking a chelation agent means taking something that has a strong affinity for mercury and will grab onto it. There are some agents that do not have a strong enough grip on mercury but can move it about. Other agents tend to hang onto it more strongly.

One filling may not sound much and may even seem unlikely to be bothering you, but I recall reading about a guy whose own tiny pit filling stood in the way of him having a happy and healthy life. He had previously been well, but after the filling he became sick and could no longer play sport. Once it was removed, he recovered.

So though it may not seem significant to have a small single filling, it's suprising how much even a small amount of ongoing mercury exposure can affect sensitive people.

Is the Detoxing process given by the dentist or you are on your own getting stuff online?

I guess I will have to find a dentist willing to remove it and qualified. Are there any websites for this or its trial and error?

Well thank you very much for your very informative post

You're welcome. Well, in regards to chelation - Some people are under a doctor getting chelation and some choose to do it alone usually with the aid of a well written book (the best I know is "Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment" by Andrew Hall Cutler).

That is available on this website too. Upper right left corner in yellow. I bought this book many years ago now and find the protocol on how to remove mercury probably the safest and most effective I have used. Seems to work for many.

You can also purchase chelation agents online (DMSA etc).

You can find out a good dentist by asking on here, or you can locate one by searching the net. Sometimes it's tough to find a really reputable one, but most people ask around.

here is a link that may help you in your search.
http://www.holisticdentalnetwork.com/directory_splash.php

It should give you a list of dentists in your area and you can scroll down to check them all out.

like bex had mentioned mercury is very hard to detect ,as for myself my blood test results always came back as very low mercury ,but I knew something was causing my symtoms , I finally deicided to have my 9 amalgam filling removed ,I have been improving since then ,the good thing you have on your side is you only have to replace one filling ,but make sure that you use a dentist that uses safe removal protocols ,the I.A.O.M.T can give you a list of dentists in your area that use these protocols there number is 863.420-6373 or www.IAOMT.ORG

Thanks again, just some last questions
What are cheap places to purchase DMSA from?
does the detox require taking DMSA for months/years?
And can detoxing (taking DMSA) improve the symptoms even if the amalgalm isn't removed yet? I mean it could be possible of getting mercury poisoning when the amalgam was put in and there is no prolonged exposure to it?

have you read hal huggins book(it's all in your head )? he mentions that it's not the amount of mercury in your body ,but how your body reacts to mercury, some poeple can have a mouth full of amalgam filling and have no problems and others can only have one filling and cause many problems ,it just depends how sensitive you are to mercury ,as far as dmsa with amalgams in ,the general rule is not to use chelators untill amalgams are out ,this way you will not be creating more problems for yourself ,dmsa can remove mercury from the amalgams and redistribute it thoughout the body ,but using algin to help remove mercury and other toxins can help while your amalgam is still in (it is not a chelator ) it mops up mercury in the blood stream and removes it from the body without removing mercury from amalgams

How would anyone know if a dentist does take the amalgams out properly instead of dumping more mercury in the bloodstream?
I find it ludicrious that a dentist would tell you he doesn't follow the protocols when being asked.

to be listed as a dentist in the IAOMT the dentist is screened very carfully and selected once that process is over ,you can contact that organization and they will tell you how to select a safe dentist in your area and what questions to ask them before making you selection (don't be afraid to ask the dentist questions it is your health a stake) IAOMT.ORG

You can do a porphoryn test which will tell you unequivocally if mercury is causing harm in your body. There is no more ambiguity.
