Hi Finn, it could well be mercury. Something can definitely stir it up and cause a healing crisis and a healing crisis can go on for a week or more once you set it off.
Candida is not usually detected anyway. The only way to know if you have a yeast problem is to do the questionaire and try the diet and see if you get a die off reaction from the diet. If you do? You most likely have a yeast issue. Yeast will starve if you deny it what it needs like sugar, fruit, honey, and high carb foods like grains etc.
It's actually an interesting test just to do the diet alone. I tried it for the first time and the healing crisis I got when i first did it was tremendous. I was a mess of headaches, crying spells, I stunk, and I thought I could not do it anymore. I had to keep going for a few weeks and had dizzy spells the lot. After a few weeks I improved markedly. Though still unfortunately battling mercury toxicity, at least some symptoms were better and I found I battled my other issues easier with a stronger immunity from less yeast.
At any rate, whatever is causing the yeast is what you really what to get to, (controlling it is great but it's no cure of course if you have a problem that is ongoing).
In your case, it maybe mercury as it is for most. For me it's viral and other infection that is allowing yeast to be a constant issue. i have no choice but to stick to this diet or my symptoms increase even more and I barely function.
You may find the diet helps you! I dont recall whether you have had amalgams out or not? Or whether you have tried a chelation protocol for mercury?
