I think the thing to remember with DMSA is that it works alongside the body's own detox. I am one year post amalgam removal, and have done about 12 rounds. I felt so horrible for the first 4 months, and again from 6-10 months, that I barely did any DMSA rounds because the body was detoxing all by itself. When taking the DMSA it was a fine line between taking enough to actually do something and taking so much that my symptoms actually got worse on round. I tried chelating when my body was going through its own mercury dump, and it felt worse. I tried chelating when I felt slightly better - but those days were so precious that I didn't actually want to chelate then.
Also the timing of the DMSA rounds is crucial. I did most rounds at 4 hours, just switching recently to 3 - 31/2 hours, and this made a big difference to side effects, though it is more of a pain at night. You need to find the right time length for you - it may be shorter than the recommended 4 hours.
So your worse detox symptoms may be due to where your body is at in terms of its own mercury detox, or it may be due to the timing of your rounds. If you are 6 months post removal, expect to feel worse anyway. Otherwise experiment with DMSA dosage and timing.
Hope this helps
