I had a total of 4 amalgams and am having the final one removed next Monday. I only found my way to this group a couple of days ago and I'm glad that I did, because it's opened my eyes and made me think hard about how I want to get the mercury out of my body.

I suspect that if I am toxic then it is fairly mild; I have had depression and fatigue since the amalgams were all put in at the same time 3 years ago. Physically I'm not too bad, apart from the energy problem. However, as I am not using a biological dentist, I am aware that the removal procedure is giving me more mercury. I have been taking 20+ grams of vitamin C on these days but I know it isn't going to get rid of it all.

After talking with others here, and reading up, I think I have an idea for detox formulated now. If anyone would like to comment, tell me there's maybe something useful that I've missed out , then I'd appreciate it.

I would rather steer clear of the chemical chelators. I would like to try to do this naturally. I eat something called the Paleolithic Diet, which excludes grains/potatoes/legumes and dairy (though I do like a bit of fermented dairy like cheese). I have been taking the following supplements for about a year:

Garden of Life Living Multi
colloidal minerals
Carlson's fish oil
vitamin C
magnesium citrate
calcium citrate
zinc
chromium
ginkgo
ashwagandha

To this I am going to add selenium and vitamin E, as none of the above provide much of these.

I have some Algin on order. Also I have a supplement called Detoxica which contains glutathione precursors. It also seems to me that it might be an idea to try having 3 cloves of garlic a day, or so. I'd like to try ALA for removing mercury from the brain, but I gather it's best to leave this til several months down the line.

Would it be necessary to add chlorella to this, or could I see how I go first? It sounds useful but it is expensive here.

Any advice?
Thanks

Imo such huge doses of vitamin c can be dangerous, especially if taken over long periods of time. Vitamin c acts as a anticoagulant and as a diuretic. In such huge doses it may promote kidney stone formation. It may also cause a great incease in iron absortion and iron perhaps iron overload. While I lake the idea of taking plenty of vitamin c, my definition of plenty is around a gram or two a day, not 20 grams a day. Take b vitamin supplemts , calcium, magnesium and zinc. Also take bioflavonoids.

Also keep in mind that vitamin c may reduce the effectiveness of novacaine and other local anesthetics, so it may be a good idea not to take any vitamin c within 24 hours before getting dental work.

Thx for the advice, but

The anaesthetic worked fine

Linus Pauling himself took 18g a day, and he talks about the supposed evidence for kidney stones in one of his books

I've never heard about its effects on iron, but my iron is low anyway and I've struggled on and off with anemia for several years. My ferritin is very low. So no worries there.

It's great stuff. Pauling knew what he was talking about. I don't always take such large doses though, usually it's 9 grams a day. Less than that and I'm coming down with cold after cold.

Yes it can give you diarrhoea in high doses; that's when you stop at the dose you're at and pull back a bit. It's called taking it to bowel tolerance. After getting mercury in my system I figure it's not a bad idea to try to flush some out, but I haven't even got up to bowel tolerance.

There have been so many bogus studies and so many misquotes, so much misinformation, that this incredible vitamin is overlooked by many people even though it can help cure things ranging from the common cold to cancer. It should be in every IV drip at hospitals.

If you insist on taking such huge doses of vitamin c, then at least space them eveny over several doses a day(ie. 2 grams every 3 hours) rather than taking 9 or 18 grams at a time. Also take it with plenty of water. Regular acidic vitamin c might be too acidic in such large doses, so using calcium and or magnesium ascorbate(or perhaps some would say ester c is the best) might be a good idea.

Sounds like a great regime you got their.

I myself have wanted to do a paleo diet and candida cleanse but havnt motivated myself.

I also do the Vitamin C flush. I use Ascorbic acid powder.

Whats your thoughts on colloidal minerals? I was planning on ordering maximol solutions which includes over 75 colloidals.

I still have my 15 or so amalgams in so dont plan on doing any chelating. I dont know if amalgams are my main problem as Im sure I had depression before my amalgams but noticed its worse + anxiety since having all my fillings.

Whoa, that's a lot of fillings.

What's your diet like Joel?

There's a source in the UK for a good colloidal mineral supplement --do you know if we're OK to post URLs here?

Apparently colloidal minerals are an important supplement to take, because most of the soil in which our fruit and veg is now grown has lost almost all of its trace elements. Commercial fertilisers don't replace them. Colloidal minerals haven't been a magic bullet for me, but I'm glad I'm taking them.

Man, if my problem really is mercury poisoning, then once it's clearing my system I'm going to be soooo healthy LOL. Can't say I haven't worked for it tho.

And about the vitamin C . . . you're definitely right there, doses need to be spaced out. I don't take more than 2 or 3 grams at a time, hourly at most. Look, why don't you try this next time you start getting a tickly throat and you know a cold is threatening. Take 2 grams every hour, for half a day or a day. It really does work. I'd be constantly ill if I didn't do that, my immune system isn't in great shape. This was recommended to me by a naturopathic doctor.

My diet isnt that great. I have tried to avoid wheat, Dairy and Sugars and preservatives but fail after 3 or 4 days into it. I find we have so much junk food at home and I feel worse having to stress about what I cant eat.

so far I plan on getting my fruit and veg intake higher.
Supply with a colloidal mineral or trace elements liquid formula(Would be great if you could post the URL if not private message me).

Hows the ashwagandha going? I was thinking of trying that? I have tried loads of different herbs but havnt got around to getting that one yet.

Yes I know I have loads of fillings ....its going to cost alot to get them removed and my family will think i am nuts if I tell them i want them out. To be honest I dont think its really my main problem but I do hold onto a fear of my amalgams possibly causing me health risks so this couls be also conotributing to anxiety/depression.

Hi Joel,

Sounds like the best thing you can do for yourself right now is clean up your diet. Motivate yourself by knowing that this alone could help you to feel a lot better.

It also helps to use a good multivitamin with the B-vitamins, and fish oil for the omega-3. Here is my UK source for colloidal minerals: http://www.colloidalsolutions.co.uk/index2.htm

Hope this helps. How are you doing these days?

Thanks Linda.

My neighbour has colloidal minerals called Maximol solutions and said I should try that. But I think the one from the website you gave sounds more effective .

Yeah I really have to motivate myself. Trouble is doctors dont believe in all the candida stuff. They recommend fruit and veg but think i am taking things too the extreme or believe in extremists who use the whole avoid wheat/dairy, sugar etc.
He keeps telling me the fear of this diet could cause symptoms.

The thing is this made me think and all my mates dont have the stress of worrying about diets so I never bother. But the contradictions are I see many people recovering using this diet. And I have to keep saying its not a permanent diet just a short term to heal myself.

Things are ok at times. I have tried yoga and hypnotherapy but they seem to be ineffective. I think its because the hypnotherpist said you should feel relaxed and content now and I didnt so it just made me more frustrated.

Im taking HIgh Omega 3 which does help moods. B vitamins seem to make me more stressed or panic more and not sure why. I tried the B Complex 50 Mg from holland and barret and couldnt finish them. I also took different other forms. Im guessing it could be my liver sine I took roaccutane which is (vitamin A Toxicity).

hows things with you these days? I read on many other posts and you seem to suffer similar to the way I feel. its frustrating trying to get your life back and can be depressing reading many other peopls stories but im sure we will all find answers.

Is ashwagandha any good?

Hm, I thought that if you were feeling like you look in the pic, things can't be too bad

I can't stress diet, diet diet enough. Others here will back me up with that. It can help you get rid of the candida problem but you do have to be strict about not eating foods that will feed it. But it is truly the way to health regardless. When you are young I know it is tempting to push the body to its limits because it seems to be able to take it. What's really happening is that it is storing up problems for the future. It may take a decade, or two, or more, but this is the definition of degenerative diseases -- they take time to develop. You've got a golden opportunity now to take control of your health for your lifetime. You may decide once you're feeling better, not to be quite so strict with the diet, but if you go back to eating junk food you will be risking illness again.

About B-vitamins . . . you may be taking too high a dose. What's more, they're not absorbed very well anyway. It's often a good move to try to get something called living vitamins if you can. They are plant-derived rather than synthetic, and so the body recognises them as being more natural to it. They don't come cheap though. One of my most important supplements is a living food multivitamin with a B-complex in it -- but it costs £40 a month. Still, I would say shop around. Are you taking any magnesium?

As for me, I think my body is eagerly chelating even when I'm not taking DMSA. Must be all those supplements LOL. I've had to take several extra doses of algin today, they seem to ease the symptoms. The anxiety and the irritability are the worst.

Keep us posted Joel BTW I'd work on stocking up on vitamins and minerals right now, rather than herbs. Herbs can be helpful but first and foremost your body needs nutrition, especially when you are poorly.

Best,
Linda.

yeah that was last week. I do seem happy in the pic which is a good thing. But for some reason I felt so moody, anxious/stressed and depressed which is strange.

Yes once your amalgams are removed you will auto-detox which is great. those are my worst symptoms anxious and irritable. Have you tried to do a candida detox?

I will make sure my diet is a lot better starting from tomorrow. I have been taking a basic boots brand multivitamin and mineral supplement. I had taken magnesium supplements for a while but htey didnt seem to help.

yeah I know im only considering herbs to help deal with panic/anxiety feelings. But your right nutrition is such a big factor in everything.

I don't think candida is one of my problems, thank goodness. I don't have allergies of any kind, no digestive problems. I got nasty bouts of IBS for a while but they disappeared when I changed my diet. It could possibly have been a symptom of mercury, but this problem runs in my family too. My mother and grandmother had their gall bladders removed and I don't want that to happen to me.

Was it magnesium oxide you tried Joel? See if you can get some magnesium citrate; Solgar is a popular brand here. It makes a difference, as it's much more efficiently absorbed. It can also have a calming effect when you are anxious.

Also, do you take algin? It's been a life-saver for me lately. I've found that when I've had those spells of being anxious and irritable, it goes away if I take algin. Thank goodness for this supplement, it's just as important as Russ and Laura say.

Boots multi? Better than nothing, but not very. (I used to take a multi from Sainsbury's.) I don't know what your budget is, but I'd shop around a bit. The store-bought multis are cheap, but unfortunately you often get what you pay for. For example, they often contain 100% RDA of everything, which is only enough to prevent the deficiency disease, not to promote optimum health. And there can be issues of absorption; like I said, your body only aborbs a little bit of the B-vitamins in one of these caps.

Supplements are so scandalously expensive here that it could be worth your while getting something from the US. Even with shipping and possible customs charges, it can still end up being cheaper than buying here. (Insane, isn't it?)

Good luck Joel, I think you've made a great start with things

I tried Chelated magnesium zincand calcium supplements, and yes im sure it was magnesium oxide as well. I found it did not help but have not tried magnesium citrate!!!!

I have tried more strong formula's of multivitamins but felt worse. I dont know why I seem to be more stressed or irritable on stuff than without taking stuff. I get quite confused as to whats working or whats not helping as well at times.

I think maybe what you should focus on first is your diet. After you've been eating healthily for some time, you will probably be able to tolerate supplements better.

Sorry I can't remember Joel -- do you still have amalgams in?

Yeah I do have all my amalgams in ...15 or so... their is no way I can afford to get them all out.

The thing is I had my depression and panic attacks before I had all my 12 amalgams put in. I really beleive alot of my problems could possibly be psychological and partialy biological. I do blame things like amalgams and roaccutane and being worse (maybe because of the fear of what people have sufferred)but at the moment I dont like blaming things unles i am 100 sure as I know their is genuine people out their sufferring.

Yes I need to diet but my doc keeps telling me I have OCD with diets as their is no such thing as taking things extreme by avoiding wheat/dairy sugar unless you know their is a definate reaction. He says im causing more stress trying to diet. So im eating more Fruit and veg daily.

I do feel alot better(not %100) at times so their is always postives and need to keep focusing on that .

Pardon the language but your doctor is talking bullsh*t. He's just spouting what all conventional doctors do. He doesn't know how important nutrition is to health, and he's got you starting to think that you might have some biological "illness" like OCD.

OCD is a symptom. All mental "illnesses" are symptoms. They mean that something in the body is out of balance or not right. The mistake occurs when doctors label the symptoms as actual diseases. If it carries on, the next thing he'll be doing is trying to get you to take a psych drug for the OCD.

OCD can very commonly be corrected by diet and supplements. Great job with the fruit and veg. Definitely cut out the sugar. I would try limiting grains to a few occasional whole grains, see how you go with no dairy too. And make sure the fats you eat are healthy, e.g. olive oil, coconut oil, butter, fish oil. It doesn't necessarily always have to be so strict for you, we are all different and our bodies have different requirements. Personally I do best with no grains at all, but I have fermented dairy like yogurt and cheese and I am fine.

Ya never know til you've tried it You might find that you're feeling pretty good after just a week or two of this.

I agree with Linda, what absolute crap. How can changing your diet and becoming aware of it so you start eating better have anything to do with OCD??? OCD is compulsive behaviours that keep a person locked into a ritual that they cannot stop. Such as washing hands, checking things over and over. You either have that disorder or you dont. That too apparently can have connections with illness (toxicity) on the brain believe it or not.

Doctors LOVE to label their patients with a mental illness because they have no idea what to do with a person otherwise and they dont like feeling ignorant. They also dont tend to like a patient opting for a healthy lifestyle and ridding certain things out of their diet....they tend to tell you it's rubbish or "no that's not the problem".

Funnily enough, I was put through the wringer of psychological "aid", pills, psychologists, group sessions and none of it worked. I went on the diet and my symptosm began to improve. they didn't disappear, but the improvement at that stage was dramatic. Many of my so-called pscyhosomatic symptoms left me.

Some people will try and tell you that you will cause yourself more stress over worrying about your diet. This is absoltuely ridiculous. Worrying about your diet hopefully will cause you to do something about it and perhaps your body/mind will begin to improve from improved nutrition and loss of the things that feed yeast and encourage toxicity.

What on earth is wrong in doing that? Isn't that better than doing nothing? Are your problems ceasing because you're not worrying about diet? I bet they dont disappear.

For me, this at least is one thing I can control "diet". At least I am not doing nothing or letting a doctor push me through the psychological wringer. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands and take responsibility for your own health and believing everything a doctor tells you is not wise. If I did that? I dont think I'd be here now.

They are not gods in white coats. THey are human beings and very often they have no clue as to what is wrong wtih you unless it is textbook stuff. if it is outside of that? You will be labelled as having a mental problem. They are often too arrogant to bother helping a patient in other ways. I was lucky to come across a doctor that was actually interested and he was the one that got me on a diet. He is the only doctor that made a difference.

I could have written that Bex. Seems a shame we both have been through nasty experiences with the docs, but at the moment it's probably the only way to learn. The doctors and naturopaths who work online, whose websites and books I read, by and large only got into alternative medicine because they themselves, or close relatives, developed medical problems that allopathic medicine could not treat. I hope that in the future these things will become more mainstream, and people will realise the folly of the diagnose-and-prescribe system that prevails now.

Anyone reading this might like to have a look at these sites, they are a couple of my favourites.

Thanks, even my parents think I take it extreme since they dont bother dieting or avoiding foods and are fine.

I think the only reason why I avoided them in the first place was hearing about candida and other problems and I beleive I dont have it but it cant hurt to try eliminating certain foods and seeing how I go. I have been on alot of anti-biotics when ai was young and love sweets lol.

So far for about a week I will try to avoid dairy and possibly wheat while eating more fruit and veg daily(Have to use a blender and make it into a smoothie as its easier to drink than to eat lol).

how long have you been on the Paleo diet?

I have tried
Pale Diet, Feingold diet, Anti-candida diet, No Carb Diet, GI Diet, Atkins diet and pretty much every different method of avoiding things most people are allergic too. I have been somewhat unhappy and depressed the whole time during the diet as I cant lead a normal life with friends and family. Concious of what I am eating frustrates me.

How long did it take before you see improvements? and how do you know which diet is for who? I tried them all for over 2 monthes and failed.

Hello

You can try all the diets you want - if you have bacteria, parasites or candida in your guts it wont work. Or you may have liver and gall bladder congestion which limits the amount of bile that is used to digest your food. Or you may have a stressed pancrease and poor enzyme release.

You have to get to the bottom of your issues before you try to treat the symptoms caused by everything on this forum they think mercury, it could be mercury, but I bet 50% of peoples problems are not mercury related.

A live blood microscopy 9000 magnification and bio feedback will give you huge clues on what to treat and what to take. It also can treat your meridians to release energy blockages.

Quantum Biofeedback System (EPFX)
The whole digestive system is supplied with energy from the parasympathetic nervous system. The skeletal muscles get their nerve energy from the sympathetic nervous system and the “spark plugs” are the adrenal glands. The adrenals normally secrete hormones which help maintain mineral and sugar levels. In emergencies, however, they secrete a powerful hormone called adrenalin which shunts energy away from the parasympathetic nervous system (digestive and lymphatic systems), and sends it outwards via the sympathetic nervous system to the skeletal muscles so that you can fight or flee from danger.

Many people with chronic, stubborn health problems are suffering from adrenal overload. They are locked in the “fight or flight” response of the sympathetic nervous system. In cases like this, biofeedback sessions can be very helpful to bring the body back to the parasympathetic system so that you can be more calm and relaxed.

Biofeedback is also very helpful for other health problems that may have underlying emotional issues that have not been addressed.

Lina,
Could you be more specific about the lingering effects of the antidepressants?
I know doctors ,lawyers and other professionals who have been treated for depression and keep it a secret. Your potential employers don't need to know about your health problems.

You complain that doctors act like gods in white coats , but most people in the forum are taking several drugs prescribed by MDs.A large percentage of health problems are caused by drugs people took years or decades ago.

I should rephrase that to "some, perhaps many doctor act like gods in white coats". And that goes for dentists also. You get the ones that are humble along with their qualifications wish is the combination a person wants because then they listen to you and are open.

Yeah some people are taking medication on this forum from doctors. It goes both ways, they have helped and they have harmed and to me they are not gods in white coats, they are human beings who are supposed to do a service to their fellow man. Many have caused harm due to their drug answers for everything.

a large percentage of health problems caused by drugs people took? I have never taken drugs in my life. I'd love to hear peope's response to that comment. My problems began with metal toxicity and from there complications due to that.

Joe, I can comment on the Ashwaganda herb, but only as it relates to adrenal issues, since this and thyroid is what I am treating along with the mercury thing.

It was recommended to me in order to level out the cortisol (hyrdocortisone) I am taking for adrenals right now. What I noticed is since I started taking this and Siberian Ginsing it does work in leveling out the HC so I don't feel so jittery (like I need it) when the next dose is due. I really DO feel the difference and am starting to feel better every day.

Hope this helps,
Gabriella
