Probably an electrical charge causing the problem. the amalgams are known to release mercury even in the simple presence of just disimilar metals in the mouth, where they create their own charge known as galvanizing.

Electric shock therapy must work wonders for people with amalgams too. I should probably make sure my computer is properly grounded.
