HI! I am in the middle of having my amalgams removed and replaced and am confused about the best chelating protocol. I have Dr.Cutler's book as well as detox information from Dr. Huggins. My dentist is one of Dr. Huggins alliance dentists that follows his protocol. He recommends DMSA only 3 days a week in small doses and then off a week for 3 months. This is different from Dr.Cutler's book. Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Calli

HI there, I would not worry too much. Andy Cutler says that people can chelate for 3 days up to a week if they wish and take the same amount of time off for a break (or longer if they want). E.g. 3 days on, 3 days off. 3 days on 7 days off, or one week on, one week off. 4 days on, 10 days off. There is no real hard and fast rule to that as such, so long as the person is chelating for longer than a day or so and has the same amount of time or more off.
The frequent/continual dosing is the most important part of his protocol. Though his book says one week on, one week off, Andy does not strictly stand by that, people can adjust it as suits.
Some people may chelate on the weekends and then have the week off if they get too many side effects during chelation. Some people who actually feel better during chelation, may actually want to stay on it as long as they can. Though unfortunately lack of sleep is not the best to go on too long with, plus chelation can be stressful, so it's not wise to go too far over a week.
I hope that helps.

You will find that as you chelate you body will tell you what you can handle. You may only be able to make it a few days on the smallest of doses and then have to work your way up. As Andy's general dosing protocol suggests, its always good to start low and work your way up slowly so you don't sabotage yourself.
Sleep is a BIG thing and most folks find that they can only chelate about 3 days ON and then need a break.

Step by step, that's how you achieve success.

I think if I'm not mistaken, that if it's oral DMPS, then people can take that all the time because it's dosed every 6-8 hours, so your body gets quite a long break between doses.
But DMSA or ALA? no. I think with ALA you can stay on it for 2 weeks at onetime, but no longer.
The lack of sleep and waking up all the time is not good, but more than that is the body needing to replenish itself properly between chelation rounds because it is very stressful on the system and also believe it or not, I have heard that even between rounds things are still happening with the mercury!
Even when you stop the chelation, your body is still trying to eliminate what was pulled out, plus there is some resettling that takes place.
