Anybody know how long it takes mercury to kill a brain cell? Once it enters the cell, does it kill it on contact or does it take days, weeks months??

I really don't know. Depends upon a lot of different variables. In fact I don't think anyone here on this forum could give you a reliable answer to that one.

How is your diet Jinx? What are you typically eating from Breakfast through to dinner? What meds are you currently taking and what supplements etc are you taking?

If you give us this info then maybe we can give you a bit more advice. Don't think about the mercury killing your brain cells. The human body has amazing capabilities of healing itself even under dire circumstances. Hold on Jinxy and breathe. Things may seem bad now but it will be better for you just around the corner. I know that it may seem difficult to imagine but this too shall come to pass.

I know the video russ, unfortunetely it doesn't say how long the process takes, nor does it inlude other factors like antioxidants , supplements, efa's intake etc.

i wouldn't worry too much about the number of brains cells that are dead. alcohol kills many brains cells too... people even enjoy it... mercury can disturb mineral transport and other functions that is the problem, if you get the mercury out you will feel normal again...

There is research on the effects of hg on brain cells. If you have a scientific background, check out Pharmacol 26, 1984 pg360.
There is also research showing that hg produces the neurofibrillary tangles characteristic of Alzheimer's.
In any case ,don't you only have two fillings? Your hg exposure is not that high compared to most of us in the forum .In high school I had many alalgam fillings and stll scored in the 99th percentile in math on the SAT. I also got mostly As in calculus chemistry, physics etc at a competitive college.I think hg affects memory more than other intellectual functions. Then againhg effects are cummulative and I dont know what I would get on the SAT today after all the years of hg exposure.

Hg decreases oxygen flow to the brain and this might account for the "brain fog" many of us experience .

jill, I know I've had a lot of brain Hg reditribution recently and it's been locked there since, including my frontal lobes, plus been experiencing pain there, lost not just memory but logical reasoning, math skills, language skills etc.

I know what effects of mercury are, i would just like to know how long they take to occur, is it a years-like process, or does it happen instantly, plus what are your options if you use antioxidants adjunctly. So basically I'm asking if those things are reversible, given you act in time. (the time-frame being at question here) and if you apply some helping measures (antioxidants).

ps. have had 7 fillings most of my life, and swallowed a Hg thermometer as a kid , only since recently I've been having 3 left, removal of two 6 months ago left me scarred and brain-affacted and the latter 2 I removed recently through teeth pulling.

My logic and reasoning got much better after amalgam removal, as long as I stuck to the diet, but now with the platinum from the chemo it is getting worse again...but I believe when I start chelation again, it will improve again.

Do you think antioxdants can forestall or delay the pathological changes mercury does to our brains ?

sandi - yeah, I take it my logic and reasoning will improve with cheltaion as well, the point is that I think I was born with a pretty smart brain yet never got to use it fully because of life-long mercury poisoning, and now am just struggling to get by and wonder if it's possible at all for it to ever be the same again.

Vit c +bioflavinoids can reduce uptake of hg by brain cells.

I do 2000 to 6000 mg of this daily:

Citrus Bioflavonoids (Vitamin C)

Very important, especially during mercury detox.
