Started LA and DMSA, done a few doses now at 25mg DMSA and 50MG ALA....at the moment I feel great...

My question concers dosage...if I were to up things again where would I go to, up just the DMSA...or just the LA, or both?

Anyone else ever have this reaction to these? For once in my life could I be the lucky one? lol

Wow, it sounds like you're going really well.
how long are your rounds?

Some people feel worse with taking them, some feel better. So after coming off them and having a break, the symptoms may hit you then (between rounds), so just be careful. Increase doses slowly and only after you have made sure you are ok with that dose after about 4 rounds, that means about 4 lots of 3 days of it (or however long you are taking them).

I don't know if it matters which one you increase, either or both. I would probably increase both equally personally. But just be aware that symptoms can hit you all at once and increasing the dose too fast without being certain you're ready could really get you.

But if you are sure? You could try going up to 50 mg of each. And then later 100 mg, which is a good ongoing dose if you want to stick to that.

Hi,
I jumped from taking 50mg of ALA to 250mg. I could not tolerate DMSA as I got liver pains. Cutler makes it clear that DMSA is bad on the liver while ALA is good on the liver. Therefore, you should see whatever works for you. I would personally experiment with one chelator at a time to see how high you can go on it, to see if you can even tolerate it. If you feel bad mentally or emotionally on the dose, I would stop the round and wait to start at the lower dose.

I've only done one round of DMSA, 3 days at 50 mg. It made me feel better, and no different when I was off it. I already upped the dose to 50mg of DMSA and 100mg of LA, still feeling very good. I will wait it out here to see how I feel once off these though like you said. But where AC says to use most tolerated dose of DMSA, and half the tolerable dose of LA, I upped it, as I'm not getting a single neg side effect. I realize though that this could all change overnight. I'm hoping it doesn't, it would be nice to be able to chelate at fairly high levels and get this over quicker.

I wonder if the extensive Candida/parasite cleansings I did before this is aiding in the feeling good during this process. Perhaps many people are severly yeast infected and they experience die-off symptoms from that as well as the merc? Who knows, I may be back tomorrow telling about the big mistake that I made.

50mg DMSA and 100mg of ALA all last night and today and still feel unbeleivable. I feel so good, it's scaring me a little (afraid it won't last)

Cutler says that those that feel good while chelating should chelate for longer time for up to 2 weeks on and then take 2 weeks off. This way you get more mercury out. I would not increase the dose until the round is completed. I recently just had to stop a round because I took ALA by mistake twice in the 3 hour period. I ended up with a horrible headache. Do not recommend it.

I'd say go for it. There is ALA in my DMSA formula, i didn't even realize it was in there till the other day but one thing for sure, those little capsules help me a lot. I generally only take them at bedtime though, I like to eat during the day without a regular schedule and taking the DMSA would interefere with that (because you are suppose to wait 3 hours after eating to take it), and I have had lots of other IV chelation anyway to hurry things up. I will take extra during the night though, like if i wake up at 4am for a bathroom visit, my stomach is good and empty then too.

yea, a few weeks ago I took ALA for a couple days without the DMSA formula and I felt terrible, went back to the doctor for an IV to get back to normal. Got a colonic to help that situation also.

I start feeling pretty lousy if I stop that formula for a full 4-5 days, have tried that, most I can stop for is 2-3 days, but I am not doing it all day either. I have been taking it steadily in that pattern (at night) for about 7 weeks. I have had lots of IV chelation also prior to and during that time. I am slowing down on the (expensive) IV chelation at this point and seem to be holding steady. Last time I got an EDTA/DMPS IV was about 10 days ago. That's a long time for me, I am amazed I am still feeling ok, I attribute it to the ALA/DMSA formula.

Alot of it you go by how you feel. I did 12.5 mg DMSA for 3 weeks and no ALA and felt okay, kinda lousy and good days. Then switched to 50 mg DMPS for two weeks no ALA and then added the ALA and was feeling so great I thought I would try longer than 3 days on and 4 days off and tried 5 days on. Found out that I should stick to 3 days on, 4 days off for now, but hallelujah, was able to add the ALA. It all depends on what your body tells you while you are chelating.

I would just go careful and up the doses slowly over months, its not a race and you also use up minerals taking the chelators, defiencies are likely to come out of the blue vs graudually appearing and giving you time to correct. You may also not be touching too much mercury right now and then suddenly on another rd get a big pull and you may feel really bad.

Hi I'm in Perth Western Australia and am currently considering amalgum removal and trying to research the associated issues. I noticed the reference here to ALA and wondered if that means Alpha Lipoic Acid? Am curious as I have been taking ALA three times daily 150mg+100mg+100mg total 350mg for about 6 years. This is prescribed by a GP (unfortunately now retired) specialising in Nutritional/supplemental therapy for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (I also have Fibromyalgia, ADHD, have three children with ADD, Gall Bladder removed 7 years ago, Hypertension , started Estragen/Progesterone replacement 6 months ago, passed Kidney Stones 2 months ago and have just started thyroid replacement therapy for Hypothyroidism). Is this considered a lot? I am certainly much better on it than off it. I also take a number of other meds, vitamins & supps.

Hi, you should not be taking alpha lipoic acid at all. First off, you have amalgams. Next, your blood levels of mercury will still be too high. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) chelates the brain and other organs. It can also allow more mercury INTO the brain if the person still has not reduced their other areas yet (blood/tissue).

The doses you are on are not only very high, but the way you are taking ALA may result in even more redistribution of mercury. A biochemist believes that if a person does not take ala every 3-4 hours around the clock, it is very risky because the blood levels of ALA need to be kept consistant in the blood in order to keep the movement and removal of mercury more even , safe and effective. If inconsistant dosing is done (anything longer than about 4-5 hours), the movement of mercury can become erratic.

I would seriously suggest stopping the ALA and getting yourself to a good reputable biologic dentist and getting your amalgams removed.

You wuld be wise not to use ALA until 3 months have passed after your last amalgam removal. The 3 month period is where your body will be reducing the blood levels. It will do this naturally, but people find they get a lot of help by using DMSA (available online). DMSA chelates the blood and tissue of mercury and in some cases it has even cured people of mercury poisoning. So it is very effective. It is safe becuase it does not cross the blood brain barrier effectively like ALA and can be used early on.

ALA is the main chelator and is usually essential to chelation, but must be used at the right time.

Like has been said on this forum before about chelating not being a race, being more even and steady in your dosing is always preferrable than to see how much punishment your body can take. When you chelate you need to consider your kidneys and intestines, especially the kidneys since they don't repair themselves very well. An analogy would be taking two aspirin for a headache helps so why not use 20 to feel really great.(there are optimal dosages. This would really apply to mercury and other toxins which act like glue to the body and won't let go easily and your organs don't work at lightning speed to clear out stuff anyway. BE KIND TO YOUR ORGANS!
