We have been married for 20 years and for 19 of those years have not used contraceptives. As far as I know, I've never been pregnant. I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and have had 6 laparoscopies. However, the condition did not appear to physically interfere with conception nor pregnancy. We tried invitro 6 years ago, and were told we had an 80% chance of success. It did not work, and the doctor was baffled and could offer us no explanation. I am 44 years old, have not had symptoms of endometriosis for several years. I would love to get any information that might help us... I don't have much time left... Thanks!

Hi,

Are you in a position to be able to try a second round of IVF?

They say that women who don't achieve a preganncy on the first IVF attempt frequently do on the 2nd or 3rd try--which is why 3 to 4 tries are recommended (after the 3rd or 4th failure, the rates of subsequent succes plummet). But maybe you already know all this...

I sympathize with your situation as I also had an unsuccessful IVF experience. We have decided to try again, though.

Best of luck!

OP

P.S. Something else to consider: If you have healthy eggs and your partner has healthy sperm, there is also the possiblity of having your baby carried by a healthy surrogate carrier. That option's expensive, too, though.

A second round of IVF would be too expensive for us, not to mention too taxing emotionally. I have few eggs left, and the amount of hormones you have to use to prepare for the pregnancy is also too taxing on me physically.

My sister offered to be a surrogate, but we declined due to issues related to her lifestyle. Having someone else as a surrogate was not an option for us.

I have started using a massage oil on my abdomen to deal with the fibroids and scar tissue, so I'm hoping that may help. Although, to be honest, I don't think anything will help at this point. I had my first hot flash last week, and I think I have to start the Pro-G Yam cream to regulate my periods.

Thank you so much for your input! I certainly wish the best for you!! I really, really hope the IVF works for you, this time!! Please let me know!

Does anyone have a baby for me to adopt? ; )

I have just a thought...you would have to follow up to see if it applies to you. One relatively unknown cause of infertility is gluten intolerance, also known as celiac disease. There are many documented cases where women removed gluten from their diets and were able to conceive or to stop repeated miscarriages. Unfortunately, this is not something the doctors normally look for. It might be worth a try to avoid gluten and see (even if you don't go through all of the medical testing for celiac). If you do an internet seach, you will find a lot of info on gluten-free diets. Gluten is hidden in many things, so it is not as easy as just avoiding bread products.

Good Luck!

I have PCOS, which causes fertility problems, and have read that a low-carb diet can help. By reducing carb intake and increasing protein, it's supposed to help ovulation. As I'm a vegetarian, I've never really done the low-carb diet long enough to see if it works, but I've read that some women have had periods after being on the diet. The Atkin diet is a prime example.
