If the food is processed, suspect MSG. I just don't eat out anymore.

Good call. I actually cut my eating out to a bare minimum just this year. Actually feeling better and losing a little weight.

Hi, Just reding about the MSG, I have had a "natural food" diet for about 4 years, and would be wary of eating out most places, when you have food allergies and are chemical sensitive the land of eating out is like a minefield! Also with a tendency for hypoglycaemia,I carry healthy snacks with me seeds, fruit, chopped veg. & bring a packed lunch if I need to.If you always carry a little stash you won't be at the mercy of what's on offer in most places and if you buy or grow&prepare your own food, you know what's in it.It takes a little thought &preparation but our health is worth it.

Yes, good stuff.
MSG is used to fatten laboratory rats. It also kills brain cells and has harmful effects on the CNS.
Unfortunately, several months ago the FDA approved the spraying of MSG on vegetables. Unbelievable.

I don't understand why msg given to fatten lab rats? as for spraying msg on vegetables, well I don't understand that either. I watched "The future of food," I could have waited till halloween,it's really a horror story. Only this is really going on. So scary.

I have just found out that a product I have been eating, regularly, contains msg. And thismorning I made a huge pot of beautiful organic vegetable soup &it has the msg stock in it ,I don't want to throw it out but,I don't know what to do now. I would never have guessed that the ingredient listed as"hydrolised vegetable protein"could be msg. I am stunned.I have been feeding this to my 4yr old thinking I was giving him the best. Product is called "Marigold" swiss vegetable bouillon powder "organic".In an earlier post I said I never ate out, meanwhile I had no idea I was adding it to my soup. I found out because my friend looked it up &e-mailed me list of names used to disguise msg content of foods. If it's not msg in it's "purest "form it can be called other stuff. I will email you list in case you don't have it already. AAAGGGHHH. This is a lesson learned. A very annoyed Sunflower

I make soup stock with the bones of chicken or beef. Just boil the bones and whats left of your baked or grilled chicken or beef for about and 90 minutes and strain your stock into a jar.
I always keep some in the freezer to make soups at a later date or else just use it fresh.

Hi Sosick, that makes a nice stock, and if you have any water left over from steaming vegetables you can add this &some herbs, maybe a little seasalt,I used to do that (before I found the stock in above post!) and if you have an ice cube tray ,it's a convenient way of popping them out as you need from the freezer. Except of course there's also the issue of liquids in plastic... Is there anything safe!!! Sunflower

Last week I called my local healthfood shop, and the manager answered the phone,I wanted to tell them that I had discovered the msg in 1 of their bestselling soup stocks, & at first he wanted to put me on to someone else, saying that there was no way there could be any msg in that product, that his family have eaten it for years & that they are aware of &against the use of msg.I told him that if it was not msg in it's purest form it could be labelled as a different name, such as "hydrolised vegetable protein", He stayed on the phone &muttered something about problems with food companies &said he'll ask his wife,&she'd return the call.So that evening she called & said that yes there was some form of glutamate in the stock &that if she was to eliminate all the products with forms of glutamate in them, she would have nothing left in that section of the shop. I told her of my concerns of msg &that I have been sick, mercury toxic etc.,she then said it would be better for me to avoid these products at the moment! but that they were perfectly safe products. Now that is a huge contradiction. She said how msg is a natural product, from carageenan in the sea,but I have done my research &the msg &derivatives added in foods today are not natural forms, the glutamate is isolated from the protein,as a chemical &added to the foods& then providing glutamate to the body in high levels,it does not have to be digested first. My faith has been greatly shaken here. She told me that she knows when there's msg in a food, like when she's eating a takeaway,(I would love to know why someone with all this knowledge &resources at the fingertips should be eating a takeaway in the first place, that's perhaps besides the point.) This is my local HFS & they all know me &my son in there, when I went in the other day,as I was leaving ,one of the girls put a few goodies in the bag for me like colouring pencils for my son &some sample sachets of "herbamore" At first I thought, that was nice &then I wondered did it have something to do with the msg conversation. Maybe I'm being paranoid. It's a product made according to an original recipeof the world famous Swiss Naturopath A.Vogel, I already buy his Echinacea drops. I have learned my lesson &am 100% wary of ALL PRODUCTS NOW.Would you trust this product?Sounds good but The product is called "Herbamare original"herb seasoning salt, Ingredients:Sea salt, celery*leek*watercress*onion*chives* parsley*lovage*garlic*basil*majoram*thyme*,kelp (* Organically grown) That little "kelp" at the end. Now I think I'm just being paranoid &spending too much time &energy on this. I will just not take the chance. MSG presumably in most foods.

Ooo, never been here before.
I’m intolerant to MSG.
I went to a Chinese restaurant for a family evening and I couldn’t eat anything. Lucky I brought my own salad and ate it in the car. My cousins daughter was also intolerant to MSG and we had a good talk about it. Didn’t stop her eating the food and complining about burning lips. Why did she eat it? She knew why it was happening….she told me herself?
Funny old world.

I have problems too with it. If I get a hold of it by accident my stomach lets me know with a vengence. I ate some hotdogs the other day(ones I have eaten before no problem) wel they changed them on me and I suffered for 3 days. No more for me. Also I thought I had seen a list someone had posted on different names for msg. Any clues? Rachel

I recently went to a new nutrition therapist, who recommended a brand of multi vit&mineral supplement for my son. It is a top brand ,well known ,great seller, and it's also recommended by Patrick Holford,in one of his books( I am a fan of his) but hopefully he is the process of updating his book...because he also recommended that soup stock,as mentioned earlier.
Anyway, about the supplements, Higher Nature's "Dinochews" , little fruity smelling dinosaur shaped tablets And low &behold the last ingredient is carageenan, aka msg.
I need to be more scrupulous in my label reading. I gave him 3 of them over 2 days & his stomach was very upset, and so he won't be getting them again.
I am writing to Patrick Holford & Higher Nature about this. Patrick Holford recently started supporting "Biocare "instead of "Higher Nature".I would like to know why.And why is he promoting products containing msg when the harmful effects are outlined in his book. The hidden names are deceitful & I've fallen for it yet again.

Sources And Other Names For MSG Include: Aspartame has the aspartic acid form of MSG as well as toxic methanol/formaldehyde. Broth, stock or bouillon Carrageenan Casein is a processed milk protein high in MSG - such as calcium caseinate Enzyme-modified items Fermented or cultured items Gelatin is a processed proteins give gelatin its structure, hence it has MSG. Glutamate: Monosodium glutamate or any ingredient including the word glutamate. Glutamic acid Hydrolyzed* protein including vegetable/ soy/plant/rice protein hydrolyzed corn, hydrolyzed wheat, hydrolyzed soy. Kombu (seaweed extract) Malt extract Malted barley Maltodextrin Natural flavorings Processed or hydrolyzed protein - such as textured protein and protein-fortified items Sodium or calcium caseinate Soy protein concentrate/isolate Textured protein Ultra-pasteurized items Whey protein Yeast extract and autolyzed yeast and yeast is especially problematic when it is yeast extract, autolyzed yeast, or yeast food, but NOT plain yeast. These Secondary Sources of MSG Generally Contain Some MSG. They can give doses as high or higher than the primary sources listed above. Most are ingredient names, a few are processing methods. 1. Barley malt 2. Bouillon 3. Broth 4. Carrageenan 5. Citric acid 6. Disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate (These are not MSG, but make it more potent.) 7. Enzymes: containing, or called enzyme modified 8. Fermented: This process can generate MSG 9. Flavoring and flavor 10. Malt extract, malt flavoring 11. Maltodextrin 12. Natural beef flavoring, natural chicken flavoring, natural pork flavoring, et cetera 13. Pectin 14. Protease, Protease enzymes: These substances can produce MSG in processing 15. Protein fortified 16. Seasonings: listed as seasonings 17. Soy: Soy protein, soy protein concentrate, soy protein isolate, soy sauce, soy sauce extract 18. Stock 19. Ultra-pasteurized 20. Whey: whey protein, whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate It’s a jungle out there, I am pretty good, I guess I avoid 98pct of the above poisons. Maybe I get a little when I eat bread in a restaurant, but that is very rare, otherwise I’m clean.

I've heard some good things about Patrick Holford but it's disappointing that he is recommending this supplement. Every children's supplement I've looked into (and I've looked into a lot) is rubbish -- full of chemical flavourings, and small amounts of vitamins, often no more than 100% RDA.
You're probably best to give your child a small dose of a high-quality adult multi. I've been getting a liquid multi from the US for my daughter, called Ultra Body Toddy. She's able to take a couple of pills of my own multi if I chop them in half (I take 3, 3 times a day) so she'll be doing that once this lot of liquid runs out. It's very hard to get a liquid vitamin, unfortunately. This company doesn't ship directly to the UK so I have them send to my parents, who send it here. If you're in the US you shouldn't have a problem getting it yourself.
People really need to get their act together when it comes to children's nutrition. It's the same with "children's meals" when you go to a restaurant, which is usually code for fish fingers, pizza, french fries and burgers. Because being a child somehow means that you don't need anything nutritious . . . ?
Best of luck with the vitamins, and if I were you I'd let Mr. Holford know what crap that Dino supplement is. It seems to sell really well.

Hi Linda Lou, I have met Patrick Holford on a number of occasions He is a truly remarkable man. There is no doubt that when he wrote that book he was not aware of msg disguised under those names.(I think there is an updated version of that book coming soon) Patrick Holford is an amazing person,I only have good things to say about him. "He is guiding the nutrition revolution"was one of the statements written by an admirer on a book of his,and I agree with that. Did you know he is responsible for the lead free petrol?
Russell Blaylock, have you heard of him yet?If not you probably will soon,he reminds me of Patrick Holford,he is also an advocate of optimum nutrition ,he is an american man who is a neurosurgeon.Amazing amazing stuff,so much knowledge, so much to learn, these guys are the heroes of our time!
I have sent an email to Patrick Holfords website.(And I have alot of other things I'd like to ask him in person the next time he's in Dublin. The emails as far as I know do not reach him, they are answered by a team of workers...
I tried to get my son to take the same multi vit &mineral as me but even chopped up small he found it tough to swallow and so I am giving him the liquid form supplements to drink in a small glass of diluted applejuice every morning, The brand is "Biocare",I give him the
"nutrisorb trace elements" "vitasorb C" "Multivitamin and mineral drops"
He will be 5yrs old next week and he's been taking those supplements since he was 1and a half yrs old. I don't really know what reason I decided to change & try those dinochews. I think we had just run out & he was looking haggard & rundown for a while there... think he has had a huge growth spurt recently and needed something extra...and so maybe he simply needs an increase in dosage...or more fresh vegetables! He eats well usually and is quite content to snack on raw carrots, celery &apple BUT always picks the same veg, however at least he eats any veg. at all.
Anyhow, I think we'll stick to our usual brand and review the dosage... This month I will get my son tested for heavy metals, and all that jazz ,the sooner to get him metal free the better. I was so toxic, that he surely got some through the pregnancy & breastmilk, unfortunately. But luckily I am now aware of this and have all this info. to help him and repair any existing or potential damage I've caused him from the nasty poisons.
The sooner the better.
Happy new year, Linda Lou...I hope each day brings some healing and happiness.

Someone out there has alot to answer for, don't they? my son is learning his letters, pre reading in school and they are making sounds for the letters. a few weeks ago he said
mmm...like for mc donalds
It took me a moment to realise what he meant,I could not believe it...He has only ever set foot inside a mc donalds once, just to use the bathroom... This really is infuriating. Children are subject to advertising through all kinds of ways and we cannot protect them from all of it...they have to live in this world and learn & listen and absorb all of this information, alot of it rubbish. They and we are so vulnerable.
Another great thing about people like Patrick Holford is that he makes positive suggestions for childrens meals that are still "tasty " and "fun" such as homemade stuff, sweet potato chips, homemade from scratch, organic chicken nuggets, fish fingers from homemade ingredients, but nothing ever ever deep fried or the like...
What you will usually find on restaurant menus"for children" chips fish fingers chicken nuggets pizza
all rubbish, without any doubt loaded with msg, and other crap drinks? fizzy crap, coke ,or if you think you are "looking after yourself and your loved ones "diet coke"7 up , would you like some aspartame to go with your msg? In Ireland if you order water instead you are guaranteed a tall glass of cloudy fluoridated tap water! It's so much fun to eat out!
If for any reson I had to go to a restaurant I would bring a snack for my son with me. And maybe order salad with no dressing, you can immediately taste if there is anything added onto it.
Now my son is nearly 5,I will have a party for him,as I did last year there will just be healthy snacks at the party. Alot of the kids have such a tatse for msg and sugar they turn their noses up at healthy food &treats. I am lucky with my son,I started off feeding him as healthily as possible and now he makes good choices. Unfortunately at other childrens parties they always offer all kinds of rubbish,I always sent my son off with a few healthy treats but,as he gets older I don't know how this will work out , He might be seen as odd or different or maybe the boy who has the weird healthfreak mother !!!???
I guess I have to reach some kind of balance where he has a great diet mostly and can then handle the odd bit of junkfood, like with his Dad or at a kids party ???
Anyhow, this is obviously a challenge for me and many many parents out there.and with food allergies and intolerances seemingly on the increase it is a minefield...
Russell Blaylock mentions how many of us have low/depleted levels of magnesium and magnesium has the ability to protect us from harmfull effects of neurotoxins,it's worth looking that up, like it is said prevention is better than cure.

My daughter will be 5 in the end of January She's never set foot in a McDonald's either, but a lot of children at school have and she's begun to wonder what she's missing out on. We've spoken about that and she understands that it is bad food which would make her sick.
She eats cake, choccies, etc occasionally when it seems to be unavoidable, for example at school when they cook, or at parties. Unfortunately she's got a sweet tooth -- I think she was born insulin resistant thanks to my own poor condition at the time -- and I don't want to make her feel like a pariah by not being allowed to have a little of what the others are having (I did try that when she was little and it was very difficult, lots of tantrums). I just wish other people would eat more healthily. We just got back from spending a week at my parents' house in Denver and my mother got her to cook cookies and cake from boxed mixes which were full of things like hydrogenated soy. I was so upset that I was in tears but people were angry at me for making a big deal out of it. Next time we go there I'm going to have to set some ground rules because I don't want anyone feeding that crap to my little girl.
I have Holford's website bookmarked but I haven't been there much to be honest. We eat the Paleolithic diet and I think I found him a little too mainstream -- I'll have to look there again. I've come across Blaylock via the Mercola site and have liked what he's said, particularly about vaccines. He wrote a piece there about how he lost his brother to disease and the "care" of modern medicine. Unfortunately while I was debating with some skeptics they dished the dirty on him and I discovered that he is also a right-wing nut with some distasteful ideas about politics and the welfare state. But I don't think that negates the professional work he's done or the knowledge he has about health.
You do often feel engaged in a battle where food and health are concerned, especially when you have children, aren't you. It's very hard. My own husband supports through words (sometimes) but not actions and I've had to figure out how to explain why he eats the way he does.
Be glad you don't live in the US -- the toxic food is even worse there. My parents' house is full of cans and boxes laced with trans fats, soy, msg, you name it. Americans are killing themselves with food. I managed to avoid it for myself and my daughter for the most part but it was hard.
Ironically, I had a shipment of krill oil come for me from Dr. Mercola, and it included a complimentary copy of his new book, "Take Control of Your Heath." I could sit there and read about all the crap the people around me were eating LOL. It has a whole chapter on msg, as well as other anti-foods.
Why not teach your son the "M" song from my daughter's school? "Mum and dad make many meals, mmmm, mmmm, for their hungry children." No McDonald's in sight!

Yes Yes.. ((( very bad news )))
Russell Blaylock, have you heard of him yet?
Yes. He's on TV right now.. On Dr Richard L. Beckers program.. It's really bad all the research on it.. How it damages the brain and the FDA allows it.. And it's been increasing in food since 1972.. But Dr Becker said that once we know what were doing wrong... God gave us the ability to heal... Yes.. Things can improve or get better.. But of course all life has it's limitations.. When things get beyond the normal body system of repair.. What incredible love they must have to keep pushing on with this message.... In the midst of all this temptation in this wicked system of things.. The love of money & power and all thats against them.. The whole system yet they go on with it.. And inform us, who they don't even know.. Thinking more of us in that way then them.. Reparing the protective Glutamate system.. And when he talked about the vaccines and the mercury and the glutamate factor.. And severe brain damage and how difficult it is to remove theses poisons from our system.. And they still do.... I believe the vaccines can be very harmfull to babies/ children but they still do it anyway.. Weither MSG or Aspertame it's worldwide.. Junk food processed food is everywhere unless you happen to just live off the land but then still... Pollution, chemtrails ect.. It looks very evil to me.... Everybody has been effected, poisoned in different degrees but even slowly over time.. The effects all even out it's just that our children seem to be getting it worse. I wrote about everything down Dr Blaylock said and all I can say is Thank God for people like them.. That are warning us even if it may be too late.. For alot of people.. Who are allready messed up by this.. And may become brain injured or sick.. And may be reinfected over and over by many different means.. I truely believe we are in the latter/last days.. It's been a progressive thing over time.. All bulding up to this.. Do they really care that we know??? I really don't think so they just postpone the truth.. By countering it by sending out false information.. Until we all get sick, immune compromised or get brain fogged.. Whatever comes first.. And I just think of all the fast food ect.. I've eaten in years past and even as a child.. And when he talked about the shelf life of effect.. It's long.. Yes.. I'll take a Pro DHA today but still.. I still believe there is only one way out of all this mess it's not humanly possible to really stop all this madness. How can you make people who do evil do good??? How do you make then all behave.. You can't.. They will just do it in secret and move on to the next thing.. Till this planet will be ruined.. Thats how much hatred they have I believe in there hearts.. Or greed whatever comes first.. However one wants to see it the facts remain the same.. This is what they are doing to us... They got free range now to do it.. It's a terrible thing to... The reality of it all..... When one wakes up to it..
