According to information published in 2 different veterinary science journals, xylitol should NOT be given to dogs. As Russ mentioned, we will be making information on Xylitol available on our website soon.

In the meantime, here is the warning as we have it written in our information:

Quote
Xylitol is not recommended for pets, particularly dogs. Although completely safe for human consumption, in dogs, xylitol acts as a strong stimulator of insulin release, which can cause severe hypoglycemia accompanied by ataxia (loss of coordination), collapse, seizures, and even fatal liver failure. The effects of xylitol on cats and ferrets is unknown. If a pet is suspected of ingesting xylitol or xylitol-containing foods, contact a veterinarian or the Animal Poison Control Center (ASPCA) immediately. (Source: HART NSP Master Reference; Herb Allure, 2007)

There have been no side-effects reported in humans (even small children), with the exception of some first-time users who may experience an initial mild laxative effect that subsides with continued use. It appears that in some people, the body’s digestive enzymes go through an initial adjustment to regular xylitol intake.

Hope this information helps. I was very impressed by the research I did on Xylitol and can't wait to make it available to everyone. We'll keep you posted and let you know when it's available.
