Tracy, you do what you feel is best for you. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have tests done to see how your adrenal glands are functioning. The most effective testing for this is the saliva method.
The tests I had taken were ordered by my holistic medical doctors and my holistic dentist. It was called AdrenoCortex Stress Profile. It was a saliva test taken 4 x in a day. I did this test several times plus they also took blood work.
This test measured for cortisol levels and DHEA levels.
If adrenal exhaustion/fatigue is treated with something like Cortef, only small doses of the medicine are used. They are simply to replace what the body is not able to produce naturally on its own. These doses would not be high or massive doses like are used in cases of asthma attacks, etc.
Also, there are plenty of herbs, botanicals and vitamins that are essential in boosting and healing broken adrenal glands.
Good luck, dear.
