Tracy, that was my post above as Anonymous. I'm sorry I forgot to sign in.

Again, I urge you to get your hands on a probiotic that has the Saccharomyces Boullardi strain. The probiotic that was recommended to me by 4 different doctors was Florastor. It is 100% saccharomyces boullardi.

This is the probiotic strain that will immediately deal with C. Difficile. Florastor has a website. http://www.florastor.com/ There is information on the product, the saccharomyces boullardi strain and the different conditions it treats, including information on studies.

I'm sure there are other probiotics brands that have saccharomyces boullardi in it -- I've just personally had experience with Florastor.

I've gotten hospital-acquired C. Difficile infections twice. They are not something to ignore. They are very dangerous. GET YOURSELF SOME FLORASTOR!!! And if you need to take an antibiotic as well, then take it. You can take the Florastor while you are taking an antibiotic.

This infection can make people very ill. The two toxins (Toxins A and B) that this infection produces are wretched.

Here is some info on C. Diff:

Here's a support group bulletin board. I have never visited, but it came up on a Google search: http://www.cdiffsupport.com/phpBB/

And from a medical journal:

A 2006 American Journal of Gastroenterology article
combining 31 randomized controlled trials determined that the active ingredient in Florastor, Saccharomyces boulardii, is indeed effective in helping to prevent AAD, and is the only probiotic that is effective in helping to prevent recurrent Clostridium difficile, or "C. diff"-associated diarrhea, a severe, potentially fatal form of diarrhea. (McFarland, L.V. (2006). Meta-analysis of probiotics for the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and the treatment of Clostridium difficile disease. American Journal of Gastroenterology. 101, 812-822).

I'd be interested to know whether what Russ suggested would work. I would imagine that the silver would work. That colloidal silver is a marvelous remedy for nearly all bacterial, viral infections. But, in some cases of C. Diff, the disease progresses so rapidly and does so much damage to the intestines that there is no time to try different treatment methods. There are only a couple of antibiotics that will treat this condition.

When I came down with it the first time, it only took 24 hours for me to get to the point where an ambulance had to be called. I became quite ill.

After you get the acute infection dealt with, then you can begin to strengthen your body's terrain. C. Difficile can be damaging to the intestines. Depending upon your individual sensitivities, strengthening your body could include continuing to use something like Florastor, along with other probiotics, herbs, and remedies that are specifically targeted to heal intestinal tissues.
