Hi! I am wondering if any of you have struggled with sleep disturbances and if they improved after amalgam removal? I have been suffering with this for the past 7 months since I found out about my Mom's cancer. Unfortunately I have had to get on medication just to help with sleep and am anxious to get off. Would appreciate any input on this. Thanks.

Hi...The answer is yes and no. Your sleep problems could improve after amalgam removal. Some do. At the same time, for some it takes place after the chelation period. Most of our symptoms begin to subside after we chelate the residual mercury out of our body. Sorry to hear about your mother's cancer. Having your mother ill can be heart breaking.

Thank you for responding. What type chealtion program did you follow? Iknow my Dr. uses EDTA and I keep reading mixed reviews about what is best to do. Thanks for your heartfelt words about my Mom. Calli

Cali...You're welcome. I know how I felt when my mother was ill. Unfortunately, this hit when my amalgam illness was at it's worse. So, I know how you are feeling.
There are many different protocols to follow and each of which have helped to different degrees. When I first had my amalgams out, I found that there was so much information over the internet and they all seemed to contradict one another . It felt overwhelming. For myself, I use Andy Cutler's protocol. It's slow and gentle. Very effective for many, though. I use DMSA and ALA every three hours (even during the night). I do this for 3 days and two nights. I, then, take 4 days off. I had to start at very low doses. He recommends this. The supporting vitamins that he recommends help to minimize the symptoms while I'm getting better. I have to admit that I'm afraid of EDTA, though, admittedly, I haven't tried it. Since beginning chelation, I haven't had asthma once. My immediate family are believers in Amalgam illness, as I have made so many improvements since chelation. Hope this helps.

How long has it been since you had your fillings removed and did you have it done all at once or 2 at a time? Therer is a dentist close to me who follows Dr. Huggins protocol and he recommends getting them all out within 30 days. I am unsure if my body can handle the stress because I have adrenal fatigue. Thanks so much for your input. It makes me not feel so alone and bewildered.!

I had mine out in two appointments. I would not recommend it; if I had known what I do now I would have asked to have them removed within 30 days, at least. I had them removed last August. I'm happy to hear that your dentist follows Dr. Huggins protocol. Be sure to ask questions to make sure that he does follow safe amalgam removal, though. I do believe that your adrenal fatigue is a concern. Ask a lot of questions. If your doctor has knowledge of Amalgam Illness, ask him if it is safe for you to do it in 30 days. Also, ask the dentist if it's safe. Don't be afraid to see two dentists for estimates and to make sure that they follow safe removal protocols.
I was very sick when I had mine removed and have never regretted it. However, I had no knowledge of adrenal fatigue. From what I hear, it isn't unusual for mercury poisoned people to have adrenal problems.
You're not alone. This is frightening to go through. And, after removal, chelation takes time so please don't get discouraged. I thought that I would get better right after I got my amalgams removed; not knowing about the residual burden in my body. I'm so glad that I hung on, though.

Magnesium will help you sleep. Also, make sure that you are drinking enough water, so that your adrenals aren't over stimulated.

Do you mean you would have tried to wait 30 days between appointments? Fom Dr. Huggins material it seems clear that he is saying not to go beyond 30 days or chances of recovery are less. It is all so confusing. Tnaks for your help.

Yes, it is confusing and frustrating. What I mean is, if I had it to do it over again, I would have followed Huggins protocol more closely. My dentist led me to believe that he was following something like this and even had his books in his waiting area. No, I wouldn't have waited 30 days between removals, however, I wouldn't have had as many amalgams removed as I did within one week. I might have done a quadrant at a time.
There is a book that takes some of the guesswork out. Russ sells it on this website. It is called Amalgam Illness. It has helped me more than I had hoped for. I am reading it for the second time as I was so ill when I first read it that I couldn't concentrate on what he is saying (common symptom of mercury poisoning). After finishing the book, I am rereading his book and can see why I'm improving. He had Amalgam Illness himself and leaves very few stones unturned.
I know that I still have a long road to haul, however when I first had my amalgams out I had never expected the changes I have had in just 8 months.
What you are doing is the right thing. You're doing your homework, asking quesitons, and making sure that the dentist has done his homework also. I put too much trust in the term "mercury free dentistry". After my amalgams were out, I was left on my own to figure out how to chelate.
