I have a severe case of candida as well. I did fine with antifungals that focused solely on cleaning up your gut and killing yeast only in your gut -- that did not make my mercury issues worse. It was once I tried antifungals that kill yeast in the bloodstream that I started to have problems, possibly due to the mercury toxicity (which I did not know I had at the time).
I'm inclined to think that killing yeast in the gut is ok when you still have mercury issues, as myself and others I know did not have problems with that (But that is just annecdotal evidence -- I'm not an expert on this). But everyone I know had problems with the antifungal GSE, as it kills yeast in the blood.
There is a lot of debate on which to do first. The candida practitioners typically say that you must eliminate yeast first, and people on the mercury side of the debate often say the opposite....and then a few lay in the middle. I personally found it helpful to clear out the yeast in the gut, along with all the other junk in there, while I did the diet and detox....but dangerous to go any further than that. So now I'm on to strengthen adrenal and thyroid, and start my mercury detox.
