Hi Tracy. I was bed ridden from my 18th birthday to my 19th, during which time I had intense sensitivity to light and sound, touch and smell to a lesser degree. I was so sensitive that I couldn't watch tv, listen to music or carry on any kind of conversation. I had to have the blinds closed in my room all of the time and had my eyes closed during 90% of my waking hours. I don't like to talk about it much because it is still painful to recall.
The thing that was causing it was epstein-barr virus. My ND gave me a homeopathic medicine which contained Epstein Barr D30, D60, D200. I started getting better immediately and I am much better now.
Sensitivity to light, sound, smell, touch and even taste are symptoms of low cortisol. My low cortisol was being caused by the epstein barr virus which inhibits the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis.
My opinion is that the cause of your symptoms may be one of the following: 1. A mercury overload in your pituitary which is inhibiting your cortisol production. 2. A virus, possibly EBV, that is inhibiting your cotisol production. 3. Primary adrenal fatigue which is inhibiting your cortisol production.
I hope this helps. -Colin
