You can take ALA alongside DMSA, or you can take ALA by itself. DMSA can help with the side effects for some, but those who do not tolerate DMSA can use ALA alone and still get well.

The key is low frequent doses. A person will need to split a capsule up to get such a dose. E.g. getting a 50 mg capsule and taking the capsule apart, tipping out the powder and separating it into thirds if a person wants 12.5 mg. Using one third at the time for your dose and keeping the other part of the powder for the next dose (you can put it back in the capsule for later until the next split). When you only have one third of the powder left, you can keep that for your night time dose, and during the day simply do the same so you have the doses for overnight in a capsule ready when you wake up.

Supplements recommended during chelation are usually vitamin C, vitamin E, B complex, magnesium/calcium, zinc, and some essential fatty acids like pure fish oil or Flaxseed oil etc. Cod liver oil is a good one as it contains vitamin A and D, as well as omega 3. But needs to be a mercury free one.
