I take 1mg of Pred before I go to bed - this is the equivalent of 5mg HC. I split one of my 2.5mg tablets. Cortisol can drop very low at night - too low to maintain blood sugar, which can cause insomnia. Certainly did for me - I lost hours every night before I worked out what was going on. The juddering is a sign that the adrenals are stressed and trying to maintain blood sugar. Eating a protein snack before bedtime will help also - I always have a few bits of chicken on hand. Sometimes I have to eat in the middle of the night because blood sugar has fallen and I can't sleep - this is despite the bedtime Pred - although I think there is another reason for this aswell - low thyroid. Are you taking Armour?
Hope this helps Tracy.
