Does anyone know what the stains are on teeth after removal of amalgams. Is this anything to worry about like left over amalgam.

Sorry, I've never heard of stains on teeth after amalgam removal. This sounds like another problem to me, perhaps related to the work of the dentist.

You can definitely have stains on your teeth after amalgam removal. If you go to this biological dentists site and click on before and after photos the dentists discusses it and shows pictures after biological composite materials replace the amalgam. www.laytondental.com. Cheers!

Hi. Do you mean silver-like stains? I have a couple. According to my dentist, it's impossible to remove all mercury from the tooth - when a mercury filling is placed, mercury seeps deeper into the tooth. Some dentists, however, claim to remove all mercury, but mine says that there will be a small amount still in the tooth for the rest of the life of the tooth. He says the mercury will also always be in our bodies, but that over time the level will fall from toxic to manageable.

I have had no conversation w/the dentist to confirm absolute, complete removal, but what you're saying about getting it down to an untoxic, manageable level makes sense since so many have had this procedure done and we have heard their wonderful recovery stories. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My dentist said the same thing. He removed all of the filling material but could not get rid of the stain. I think because there would be nothing left of the tooth. Sounds right what you are saying but just part of me is concerned whether DMSA may be pulling that into the body. It may be that the ammount is next to nothing in that stain though, just wondered what other people had been told or experienced.

Im sure I probably had mercury stains in my teeth too - I wonder if what helped was using that Dental Chelat mouthwash before and after the removal. The dentist thought I was a looney toon, but I insisted on not using the flouride rinse, and using the Dental Chelat instead. I bought it online-- it is supposed to chelate out any mercury ions or nano-particles--, the tiniest particles- and you have to spit it right out after swishing it around in your mouth. It also has some herbs added. It can also be used for those who still have metal fillings in thier mouth.
I'm sure that any remaining mercury stain is nothing compared to the clump of metal filling that remains in the untouched tooth.
